Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Obama/Huntsman 2012 Like I said, they're not going to turn a Republican into a 2016 incumbent VP.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Well, Weaver hasn't won a game for something like a month. Don't think he's pitched that poorly (see Danks, J. 0-7 start) but simply a function of the anemic (yet better than White Sox nevertheless) offense. He got shelled in the last game of his I watched

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 08:31 PM) i don't think that is the case. his negatives are brutal. the more Republican voters know about him, the less they like him. Slight bit more specific there

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) You'll disagree, but their future is infinitely better than ours. Santana, Chisenhall (did I spell that correctly?), Cabrera, Kipnis, Choo, Ubaldo, Masterson > any top 7 core you can come up with from our end. But a couple of those guys are only under team control for 2012-2013.

Indians awarded claim on Thome
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) How did Whitesox.com never complain to you guys? He would start a thread highlighting EVERY single article that came about from the site. People were less caring about large blocks of text being excerpted 5+ years ago...and even with that, most pages these days are happy as long as you add in a link so that they get some traffic and they get the Google boost.

Indians awarded claim on Thome
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) Over the course of his tenure here SS2k5 has averaged 28 posts per day. (holy s***) If we assume 8 hours slept per day, he loses 33% of the day of posting due to sleep. This leaves 16 hours for 28 posts. SS2k5, on average, has not gone 34 waking minutes without a post over an 8 year period! Actually he's at 26 posts per day (This is displayed on his profile). There's at least one other poster on this site who is currently averaging about 31.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Honestly I would love to see them introduce competition into the health care market. That would go a long way towards knocking costs down, minus all of the other stuff that is being done by the government to explode them. Actually, in the effort to implement Obamacare, the government is doing this. They're making an effort to prepare new required documents which are more easily comparable statements of benefits of each policy in the exchanges, and there is new research being presented of the number of plans people can actively compare before becoming overwhelmed.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Wait, all of the sudden the Dems care about adding millions of people and costs to private insurance plans? That is a complete 180 from the ObamaCare debates. Wait, so all of a sudden you're willing to support allowing everyone onto a government-run insurance plan rather than private plans? I'm game! Every Democrat who paid any attention at all to the issue would have scrapped 2/3 of the bill if we could have gotten an expansion of Medicare to cover even people who were 55 and up. Lieberman floated that in December 09 thinking it was a brand new centrist plan to get around the current debate, then it turned out that the liberals loved the idea, so he dumped it immediately.

Congratulations to Paul Konerko on acheiving the 2,000 hit hallmark
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) That or the fist pump. If Paulie gets to 2500 hits and 500 HR, he has to get in because how many clean 500 HR guys haven't got in? That would take what, 3+ more years of this level of performance? If he's producing like that in his late 30's, that's the kind of push that can get a person in.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) They have the 4th best record in the AL. Even if they have a s***ty division, they're pretty damn good. They're 0.5 games ahead of both the Angels and Rays.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) I think Peyton is pretty proud of his consecutive games started streak. I wonder if he would take a snap or two, hand it off, then leave the game just to keep the streak going. He seems like the type of guy who would. That would seriously be s***ty of him.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) He'll likely start at least one game given Petyon's hurty. I'm not sure that he's signed to be more than a backup, but they need a backup for week 1 if Peyton isn't ready.

Indians awarded claim on Thome
I'm still a bit baffled by this "Detroit is solid" talk. They have a total run differential on the season of +5. They're leading what is clearly the worst division in MLB. They've had a weak schedule, which is of course a function of playing the AL Central, and they have a unique ballpark that gives them a pretty large homefield advantage against weaker teams The Sox aren't going to catch them barring a miracle, but I can't see how people have decided a team that can't run away with this year's AL Central is a monster.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) he has a full no-trade clause and I don't see him going from one loser to another, not unless the twins ask him too. Can a NTC actually block a straight waiver claim if the Twins let him go? Rios had an NTC as well that didn't stop the waiver claim.
