  1. I see the usual Alexei GIDP starts us off.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) He got a hit against a lefty reliever the other day and his Charlotte numbers were good against lefties. He'll be a platoon player as long as Ozzie is the manager.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) 6 2/3 1 ER in your debut with a team isn't great? I'll take that everytime from a rookie making his 4th start. Depends on your definition of "great" i guess. The Twins don't exactly have a light you up offense, so you can hold that against him if you want, and he didn't come out there and blow anyone away with Kershaw-like stuff where it's just unfair. He got outs, worked quickly, kept the ball on the ground, all of which are exactly what you'd hope for from a rookie who throws a sinker baller. He also blew Mauer away on an 94 mph low and in sinker when he needed a big out. You didn't look at him and think "This guy's going to win 33 games in 2 years", but he was certainly effective.

I don't care one bit, but everythign you just asked for is expensive.
  5. Could explain the heat. The finger of a high energy being pushing itself into the atmosphere would probably push a large amount of energy into that region.
  6. QUOTE (The Sir @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) I have some pretty hardcore views on abortion. And I see a lot of irony in people who support abortion calling American Soldiers "baby killers". But the main people I was referring to as "miserable leftist scum" were the ones who treated our Soldiers so horribly. If you support abortion, I will ardently disagree with you, but I won't have the supreme hatred for you that I do for those who abuse our Soldiers. In case you're unfamiliar with the work, there have been books written that argue quite persuasively that a huge majority of the "I was spit on at the airport" stories from Vietnam are exaggerations or are some version of PTSD reaction to deal with the war. Perhaps the most important note is that returnees from Vietnam rarely (at most) landed at civilian airports.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) More than 1 of the 3 need to downgrade for it to actually matter. Also, the downgrades don't actually mean anything, they're more or less just "advise". Japan said they're not changing their policy with the USD regardless of the downgrade -- in other words - Japan said they're completely dismissing the S&P downgrade. What these usually do is cause interest rates to rise ever so slightly, if people listen to them. At least my understanding is correct. If anyone listens to them there will be a slight bump in rates, but either it won't offset the plunge from last week, or if it does, then another step towards European collapse will push them back the other way.
  8. First of all, posted in the Dem thread nearly a week ago. Secondly, the guy who did this has come forward and admitted he's one of Romney's former partners at Bain capital. So, clearly the law needs changed to block this, but that's the end of this story.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Brent deserves a start for hitting a homer off Nathan. How many times has that happened in Sox history? Dye? Who else? Nathan has given up 7 career HR to the White Sox.
  10. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Was he using a different stance? Not obviously, at least not from the front, his hand position could have moved slightly and I couldn't have seen it.
  11. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) A ridiculous waste of the closer here with a 5-run lead.. What further proof do you Ozziepologists need this manager is grossly incompetent? Has Sergio worked much lately during a 6 game losing skid?
  12. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) True, Yankees will overpay, any idea how Danks feels of Chicago, would he take a discount to stay with the Sox. I am quite sure he's comfortable and good friends with alot of the guys. But on the flip side he can be actually frustrated due to the lack of offense especially in his starts. If he'd been willing to take a discount to stay in Chicago it would have already happened.
  13. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) LOL yea I know that's a pretty bad indication for Danks as we know he deserves to win a handful of games but any team thats gonna be in on Danks are gonna use that stat to their advantage when negotiating a deal. No they won't. You know why? Because they actually have to acquire him as a FA and they won't know what other teams will offer him. The team that uses W-L as a reason to offer him less money will lose him to the Yankees.
  14. Alejandro yay
  15. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) Frasor over Crain?? Didn't Crain work a couple extra nights already this week?
  16. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) Watch this change blow up on Ozzie. I wanted Sale to stay in. with every at bat he had being a stressful one, he did enough.
  17. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Well ERA is around the same, but Lackey's record was far better (102-71), and he won a World Series and won the AL ERA title in 07. I say the case with Danks is u give 10-12 million per year, if not you show him the door (maybe u put an option of 13 or 14 million like in the 5th year or something) If Jon Danks hit the FA market this offseason, He'd get $15-17 a year for 5-7 years. If he would sign for 10-12 million a year under any circumstances, he'd have been extended by the Sox 2 years ago.
  18. Aw man, I thought we were gonna see the rare 2 base wild pitch.
  19. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Whoa Rios going opposite field 3 hits for him today? He's gonna have to party tonight
  20. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Well Buerhle had a hell of a 2005, 3X allstar and a World Series Ring under his belt when he signed the extension. Danks has nothing, just a career under .500 pitcher (yea I know bad 1st year, but still). I just don't see how Danks would earn Buerhle type of money. Take a look at John Lackey's contract. 5 years, $82 mil. He had a career ERA of 3.80, pitching in a better pitchers park than Chicago (Anaheim), he's a righty while Danks is a lefty, and Danks is going to hit free agency 3 years younger than Lackey.
  21. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Chris sale showing a lot of confidence lately When he has his release point (and therefore his control)...he's just better than whoever he's facing.
  22. Nicely done Sale as well.
  23. Great outing kiddo. Good choice ozzie making sure he doesn't get the chance to lose it in the 7th.
  24. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) He's not an elite type of pitcher, Era is around 3.7. When Buerhle and Peavy got those type of contracts they were a class beyond Danks. Buehrle? Really, no. That's just about where Buehrle was.
  25. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) Why is Danks gonna get that much money. He hasn't been that type of money... he's good no doubt but not a type of pitcher that gets 15 million or something. Why not?
