  1. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) No way they gout out of their lease after building a new stadium so recently. Yeah, they made their mistake by inviting the aliens in.
  2. We could trade for him.
  3. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Keep in mind they're the same people that gave default swap trash mortgages AAA ratings. A number of articles I've read have said that the statutory rules for the Treasuries being counted as AAA assets are unchanged by having this S&P downgrade, is that correct? I.e. outside of a few obscure places, no one is "Forced" to dump these assets by rules?
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) He's probably cost himself money by talking about retirement and his willingness to walk away if it isn't a team he wants to play for. How about 2 years/ $24 mil, with a vesting option for 2014? If he hits 190 innings next year, 2014 kicks in for another $12. I don't know why talking about retirement would cost him money. Most of the time teams don't want to give the extra year, if the pitcher retires early, then the team gets out of a commitment.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) If you inserted Frasor's name for Bruney, then yes, there would be clear agreement on that one. If we were inserting a decent arm we'd probably have won all 3. The reason i still gave a loss is that I was figuring being a bad pitcher would cost 1 of them.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Hey, I might actually watch some of the game today! Even if Stewart blows, it's still fun to see someone who hasn't been part of the bore-fest all season get a chance to do SOMETHING... I must applaud your sig.
  7. QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Paul has one of the prettiest right handed swings I've ever seen. Rios has ? A whole lot of talent and a decent history of having been effective.
  8. It's the only way Carlos will learn not to do what he did last night. If Ozzie Guillen wins too many games he won't be able to move to Miami.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) The pen was shorthanded with Bruney out there anyway. Bah, if the 3 games that we needed to have the starter pulled in the 5th/6th where Ozzie didn't pull him...had instead had Bruney coming in, we'd have probably won 2 of them.
  10. I wouldn't be outraged by that of. Just by sheer luck it'll probably outproduce this years of.
  11. Back to the 6 man rotation and shorthanded bullpen? Uck.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) You may get that opportunity again, but who knows what will happen. If cooler heads prevail, nothing will happen because the rating downgrade means almost nothing since the other major ratings remain at AAA. I'm guessing that's why they did this on a Friday night. They wanted to make their political statement but they didn't want to set off an instant panic while the markets were open.
  13. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) nice...take the bat out of Paulie's hands. Brilliant Ozzie!!! Of course. How would a manager learn? Why you'd have to see that a dozen times in 8 seasons before you'd figure it out.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) The S&P just lowered their US credit rating. We've got bigger problems than next year's pitching staff on the horizon. Bah, that's s&p playing politics, nothing more.
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) It's a(nother) regrettable contract. We could trade him with ease this offseason. Could probably get something useful.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Just a reminder, Sox are on the hook for a total of $21M to Ramirez for his 33 and 34 y.o. seasons in '14 and '15. Nice going Hahn. So?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) Floyd Peavy Humber Sale ? That's awful That's much more normal in MLB.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Floyd has to be an untouchable right now, as it's very likely he's the only guy in the rotation last year that you can pencil in for 25-30 starts. People don't grasp how awful and fragile our rotation could be next year. That's actually still a pretty normal rotation. Rookie or two at the back, not a ton of consistency. The 6+ starters were used too is very abnormal in MLB.
  19. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) hey atleast we get a decent draft pick out of this s***... wait Kenny will sign some old Type A douche and surrender his 1st rounder. With a record this bad we should still keep the first rounder.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Listening to Hawk and Stone, it would shock you to know the Twins are 9 games under .500. If you saw the 2 teams, which would you suggest had the better record?
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) why is it we put so much stock on the same ratings agencies that helped tank the world economy? Their ratings are actually given legitimate status in the law. It's a way to work through the requirements to hold good capital to avoid collapsing under losses. Clearly, it didn't work well, and we still haven't reformed them. But there is a kernel of truth here...if I'm a wall street investment firm and I want to invest in marginally-risky companies that could give high return (i.e. some tech company) I need to be able to judge how safe the rest of my investments are so that I know I won't have 6 tech companies go under and suddenly find that my firm is insolvent. There does need to be some mechanism by which that happens. You can't have AIG certify that AIG's assets are A-OK, that's no better than what we got in 2008.
