Although the reactions to the thread are...odd...congratulations, I think?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) Increasing regulations and mumbles about capital requirements while closing record numbers of banks = banks sitting on cash. You can't say one thing and then do another. Yeah, it's Obama's fault that record numbers of banks are closing. Not the fact that they invested in assets that left them insolvent. It's Obama. That one ranks up there with thinking FNMA and FDMC caused the housing crisis when 6% of their mortgages went bad while 18% of private bank mortgages went bad.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Thank your Obama government for that. Obama caused the 2008 crisis of confidence? Wierd. I'm always amazed at his time travel abilities. The market has never satiated the demand for safe assets that exploded in 2008. You can see that in the below-target inflation, you can see that in the bond markets, you can see that in investment numbers, you can see that every time there's any sort of international shakeup.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) If we lose today, it is because Balta broke the sacred chant. **** the Cubs and their silly chanting rituals.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) That's the Dems #1 problem with government... It is never big enough. Ask Greece, you can't totally spend your way out of things. Eventually you have to have some private sector participation and confidence instead of crowding out. Where exactly is this crowding out coming from when bond yields are this low? When private financial firms and banks are sitting on cash reserves literally in the trillions of dollars? They don't want to invest because there's no demand for anything. Just as there was in 2009. Your guys' problem is that you just assume the private sector will always bail you out, when the logical financial decision for just about the entire private sector right now is to sit there, hoard cash, and do nothing.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) balta you must see raiders of the lost ark. Yeah, I know, I know.
  8. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 06:19 AM) So if there is a lockout for a whole season, wonder what does with the situations of Dwight Howard and Chris Paul. Do they both bolt to say New Jersey and link up there, or does CP3 try to join Orlando for 12-13? Can they even do that without having to waive / trade Arenas and Hedo? Teams that have some expiring contracts this season and cap room heading into the next off-season, could find themselves in really good shape, depending on what a new CBA will eventually look like. I have to believe the NBA Owners wouldn't just let 2 years worth of free agents hit the market. Hell, Derrick Rose would be a free agent (possibly restricted) in that case.
  9. Any of the Godfather movies. Any of the Indiana Jones movies. Don't ask me how.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) Hail damage on the car. I haven't gotten mine fixed yet. We were watching the weather channel while that thing roared through last night. Can't say I can remember a popup storm appearing over the lake and heading south like that, at least not in the summer.
  11. What Obama didn't foresee was that the people who said this slump was going to be vastly worse and required much more aggressive action were right.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) they are going to Wrigley, they will be fine. Rat bites cure whatever issues are caused by flying into Chicago during a freak hailstorm?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) The Cubs have had the same problem for years with day games. There are lots of people who think that is the exact reason they don't ever win anything. Most people blame it on the fact that the Cubs have to play so many day games though. One day game on a travel day should be manageable. Unfortunately another day game today. Good news I guess is that they're coming down from altitude, which should be like a small boost.
  14. What was it that our minor league guys? The hitters will always tell us whether a pitcher is legit or not? Into the Charlotte bandbox up against better hitters. Here we go.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 06:35 AM) There's no way we replace Morel with Kuhn, any more than the likes of Cook and Gartrell were going to replace Quentin. Heck, you can add De Aza to the list, too, probably. Color me skeptical on Kuhn, but I'd just be happy with another Craig Grebeck or Ozuna. Unfortunately, Lillibridge already does a lot of these same things, so it's pretty rare you have 2 players replicating the same skill sets on the same bench, not with just four players and two of them having to be Teahen and the back-up catcher. When I hear names like Reed, I also think of Jeff Abbott. Put some pretty outstanding seasons offensively in the minors and never came close to producing at the major league level. Then again, hitting was pretty much his only "plus" skill, and without much power. If we could find a way to get rid of a portion of Teahen's contract, Kuhn calling up to replace him would be a solid move. But alas, no one wants that.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) He really needs to be up, even if it's just rotating between LF and DH, even if he only gets 4-5 games a week. No, he should not be playing 4-5 games a week. 6-7.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 06:26 AM) The Rangers and White Sox (some will also argue the Twins, but their underperformance has as much to do with injuries) are the two main enigmas in the AL. Like usual. The Rangers had Hamilton and Cruz hurt for at least a month though.
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) how does this happen.... Amphetamine ban, early game, altitude, travel day, long extra inning game 2 nights ago?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Both Peavy and Pierre stated that the team came out with no energy today. That's pretty frustrating to hear when you have your entire bench playing, as they should be your energizers. Wonder why. Travel? Lack of amphetamines?
  20. Win 1 and you fall farther back and get a pointless trophy. Win 2 and you gain some ground and are 1 game under .500. Win 3...cross the .500 mark, gain a lot of ground, make us all very happy.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) I'm not saying Omar doesn't have skills. I just think they are redundant. Yet, that is a skill Teahen doesn't provide. At all.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) No no, this one. Of course I knew which one you meant. I just liked that one better.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) The Sox could be on an 8 game winning streak if they had any semblance of a consistent offense that can get runners in from third with less than two outs on a regular basis. *Sigh. Prior to today they were hitting about .180 with RISP over the last 15 games.
  24. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Peavy with less than stellar stuff but still mustered a somewhat okay start. Which makes us wonder whats the issue where there are days where he absolutely has no stuff (eg: Today and the game vs the Cubs) and others when he is lights out hitting 95 mph (Cle and the relief appearance vs the Nats). But none the less the team is 7-1 when Peavy pitches. Today was a classic one bad pitch that the player really really earned. Like a 12 pitch at bat earned a long tulo HR.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) If I had to choose between the two, I would send Omar packing and keep Teahen. But we know Ozzie's not going to do that to his hero Omar. Vizquel played some really solid d today.
