QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Or even Konerko back in the early 2000's when he had that disasterous season. I point this out all the time it seems. In late 2002 he was playing through a broken foot that he didn't go on the DL for because of the pennant race. It was bothering him for most of 2003.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) Oops I mean Becks, not Dunn in my post. And it is not hyperbolic as it is reasonable to assume Dunn might be one of the worst in 20 years unless one takes the time and has the ability to quickly find the list of hitters you found. It was a reasonable assumption looking at Dunn's dead horrible stats. Perhaps he should have said worst White Sox player in 30 years getting the same number of at bats. Assuming that a player must be the worst of the worst because you don't know how to look for data is either hyperbole, laziness, or naivete. He's been bad. Plain bad. People have been worse. Lots of people have been worse. Brandon Wood's epic .382 OPS last year was a pretty good example. He might well be one of the worst ever to put up these numbers while being paid this kind of money. That narrows the list down considerably.

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I haven't voted either and I won't. I just think the ASG voting is a silly popularity contest. I'm dumb for expecting fans to be honorable and vote for whom they believe are the best players, and not simply for who plays for their team, but still. It's just a matter of who has the more vote-happy fans. Now, do you have that list of sub .600 OPS' since 1980? I can do a search and get the numbers from baseball reference but I can't give you the full list without a subscription.

Danks to DL, Sox call up Hector Santiago
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Multiple experts believe Reed will be pitching for this team in 2011. And that doesn't mean its a good thing.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) Is it just me or is anyone else getting real sick of Hawk in today's broadcast...and is anyone else noticing a fan saying "strike" every single time the ball crosses the plate against the Nationals? Just wondering. Yes, everyone has heard the loud fan.

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) You're not angry that a guy with 21 RBIs has more votes than Konerko? No, because the 4th and 5th all star positions are a crapshoot. If the Sox were winning more and putting more fans in the seats he'd have more votes. Hell, I haven't even put in my 25 votes yet and I'm not sure if I will.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) I don't care what you say, that wasn't hyperbolic. You come up with a good comeback on the 139 players but Dunn should be lumped right in with them. I don't think Dunn will be sent down, but Fathom's theory is plausible. Oz loves Omar obviously. And Lilly can play anywhere. It's certainly Hyperbolic to say that Dunn is the worst in the last 30 years and then accept that he should be lumped in with that other group. He can't be much much worse than them if he's in the group.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Seattle and Florida are playing tonight at 9:05 that seems odd for a Sunday. You would think Florida would have wanted a day game. That's a bizarre series though...Florida is playing a home series in Seattle because of a previously scheduled U2 concert.

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) I can't care about the All Star Game at all anymore. I don't see Humber going, sadly, and last time I checked, Mitch Moreland had more votes than Paulie. So did Teixeira and Cabrera, which is still hogwash. But the Moreland one is by far the most offensive. The AS Game can shove it. You're getting angry about all star votes?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) Balta are you serious or joking? He's got to be right on that. Dunn's stats have to be some of the worst in 20 years or more unless baseball is full of whiffers. That's no hyperbole. Maybe you were kidding. There are 139 different players who have put up a sub .600 OPS over a 400+ plate appearance season since 1980. Cesar Izturis put up a .545 OPS last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Omar and Lillibridge split time at 2nd. Viciedo gives you some more outfield depth as well. Having Lillibridge and Omar being your 2b actually gives you less OF depth because your backup CF becomes either Viciedo or Pierre.

QUOTE (aprec32 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Just go to any website and look at this year........we have virtually no blow outs. We win a lot of close games and lose a bunch of close games. And considering that the Sox are right in the middle of the pack in runs scored, that means the majority of MLB is having a lot of close games. That's what has happened now that you've gotten rid of (most of) the drugs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Dunn's going to find himself benched if he continues to struggle. I could see Beckham being sent down for Viciedo. And Viciedo takes over 2b? Come on fathom.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) There is no as bad as Dunn right now. And it'd be hard to find worse in the last 20 years. No hyperbole. Yeah, that's pretty much hyperbole defined.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Doesn't it seem like we have an inordinate amount of close games? When you actually look at the numbers, the Giants have had a ridiculous number of 1 run games.

Ok Adam, all you have to do is pull the ball on the ground. Or hit it in the air. Or just walk and load them up for Rios. Hell...basically, you have to make contact.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) I meant for the long haul. Reed is much better than Bruney. And if the Sox haven't taught you yet how much damage you can do by calling a guy up too early, I'm not sure what else they can do to convince you.
