  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:52 PM) Yes, executive orders is what i meant. And even if he only signs half as many as bush, you all decried their use then, yet are silent now. And he IS trying to rule by executive fiat. Can't get labor laws you want passed? Appoint a union stooge to heard the NLRB and just f*ck business from within untouched. Can't convince enough people that globull warming is real? Have the EPA start regulating everything it remotely THINKS it can. Obama has already shown he has no problems going around the legislative process when it suits his agenda. Actions such as those would be lambasted forever under a Republican admin. But hey, Democrats mean well, so all is good. Dude...it was actually signing statements, not executive orders. And the EPA is actually required by law to regulate co2. The administration has been in violation of th law by not flgettin those regulations out. And the fact that you think climate Change is a giant conspiracy of evil scientists is sad.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) High 90's/low 100's in Denver the next few days. May have 50 mph winds on Thursday afternoon. What does that do in the ballpark?
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) I would love a reporter to summon up the balls and ask KW if the reason Viciedo is still in AAA is because of his service time thing. Granted KW couldn't come out and say that, but I would love to see his eyes swell up in fury over the question. If he comes up in like 6 days, that'll be the cheapest move we've ever seen from this team.
  4. It was actually John Wayne Gacy from Bachmann's hometown, Waterloo Iowa. John Wayne Gacy. Slight difference.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) Famously, Joe Mauer once put a bunt down (can't remember the specific game) last season with the bases loaded or RISP and their entire fanbase went apeshi- over it that he wasn't swinging away and was shirking his responsibility off to a lesser batter who was following him in the line-up. If you were to ask Joe Mauer right now what kind of play that was, I would hope that he . . They WANT you to try something stupid like bunting. C'mon, Joe. . Jul 21, 2010 . Bunting. In that situation? Believe me, I get what Joe Mauer was thinking, and he is a very good bunter. No question about that. Joe Mauer bunting with the game on the line (and no Justin Morneau batting You gotta admit though, there's a lot of differences there. Mauer doesn't get the overshift, Dunn does. Mauer was hitting what, ~.350 at the time, while Dunn is having a good season if he's above .250. Mauer strikes out (and thus wouldn't get the runner home) about 50-60 times in a normal season, Dunn 175+.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) So, just like the fears of Obama becoming an arch liberal with his policies... the idea that he has somehow turned into an executive dictator is patently false. Interesting. Unfortunately, one of his executive actions is Libya, which is kind of HUGE. Iraq and Afghanistan were actually endorsed by Congress. Factual correction that I blame on Wikipedia. Took me a minute to realize that there are dates missing, and so executive orders missing, from the Wikipedia List. The full Obama total is 91. That averages out to ~295 EO's issued during an 8 year term if he kept doing so at this pace (not always the case, lots of EO's are always issued right up front, like closing guantanamo and ending the global gag rule). So, if Obama kept up the current pace from his first 2.5 years, he'd have about 7 more executive orders than Bush.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) One thing I would be wary with in this situation with Dunn is overcoaching. It seems like we do this too much in the organization and overcoaching can lead to prolonging slumps even more, and it seems like some guys never even really cover from it. Do we really think that's a problem in this organization?
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) Not so. The Nationals also are doing the same thing with Harper. Harper would not be called up to the big leagues, he's still in A-ball.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) Hard to say if AD meant executive signings - which, yeah, it was obvious Bush did that way more often - or executive ORDERS, which is different. George W. Bush issued 288 executive orders during his time in office. To this point, 2.45 years in, Barack Obama has issued 54. So, again, just off of numbers of them, Bush issued far more, and did so at a higher pace (although in both cases it's possible that things will accelerate). Full list.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) If Bush would have used Executive signings 1/3 as much as Obama has, Again, factually inaccurate. By the current count, this President has issued 18 signing statements, 2.5 years into his first term. The previous president issued 130 signing statements, covering an estimated 1100 elements of the law.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) What would be hilarious is if the Sox to finally cut Pierre, and then call up De Aza instead. I think it'd still be a solid upgrade.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) That's also speculation I'll admit but there have been several people posting in here that have followed him closely, and watched games in Ohio, that noted he is larger this year. And yet the ST article I posted earlier said the exact opposite.
  13. Stark on where this heads.
  14. Juan Pierre hasn't stolen a base since June 1. That's 18 games.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Ozzie said that T-Pain had more forearm stiffness the other day, so I doubt he's coming up soon. Hector probably around for a while. I'd be surprised if he's not replaced by Harrell tomorrow.
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Dunno about you guys but I'm tired of hearing people in the media, in the Sox FO, on Sox broadcasts...saying they don't know whats wrong with Dunn. My eyes don't lie: His batspeed has gone to SHI*. Some people have said he's gotten fatter too, which I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm sure if a guy like Dunn, who's already not exactly the most athletic guy on the team, puts on more fat lbs., it can't help If you watch circa 2004 Adam Dunn, this is not a guy you think "he has a quick bat".
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Sean Penn Kenny Williams?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Nice post, I like the points you make but you said he's doing "exactly" what he's supposed to be doing in a response to a good post and I wanted to challenge you on that. I don't think one walk is exactly what he's supposed to be doing and I don't think his OBP is exactly what a starting third baseman should be doing. As a rookie...as long as he is trending up, getting hits, not striking out, and playing defense, then he is, in my eyes, doing "Exactly" what I want him to be doing. Brent Morel was not going to carry us to the division this year. But...Brent Morel could have cost us the division, if he played 3b like Teahen/Fields and was still mired in Adam Dunn territory with the batting average. When we committed to Morel, as a rookie, rather than trading him, that means we're hoping he doesn't lose us games wholesale while we try to turn him into a major league starter. Right now, he's not costing this team games, or if he is costing this team games with the bat, he also makes up for it with days like Saturday. He has room to grow. But if you take into account the fact that he's a rookie that we're trying to develop, then for now, he's doing exactly what we need him to do. The remaining thing on that list is that we need to see growth, particularly in the 2b numbers, as the season goes on.
  19. Maybe Mauer should go to the mound more.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) The Sox aren't a public company, they are private, therefore they don't have to show the books. The one thing that makes it a little bit of a case here is that the state of Illinois has chipped in a ton of cash towards their ballpark.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) I love his glove but he's doing EXACTLY what he should be doing? Hitting .253 with 182 at bats with one walk and an OBP of .263? I mean I do like the young player but I would take exception to your comment. He should be doing better than one fricking walk all season. And I do want him playing every day. I love his glove. He's also "Getting better" and "playing at least average at the position overall despite being paid only $400k a year". He's hitting .283 since May 1. And he ought to have more at bats than that, someone just keeps insisting on benching him. Yes, he does need to take a few more walks and show more power. But that is how you develop players...they need playing time, and you need to give them a chance to play through it. Danny Valencia, on our arch rivals, has 8 HR this year, but is hitting only .213 with a .631 OPS, yet the only guy on that team with more PA's than him is Cuddyer (oh, and Valencia has over 100 more PA's than Morel). The Twins got a brief jolt from him last year, now they're into a developmental stage with him.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Eh, it was kind of a personal statement and what he believes. Not sure why it needs to be labeled "outrageous." Some of it, like the idea that there has been an expansion in the number of Czars or the fact that the Saudi King is our enemy, is patently untrue.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Cause I, the paying fan, want to know how my Sox are doing? Why wouldn't they open the books? If I'm right and the Sox cleared about $25 million in profits last year, that's not the sort of thing you'd want to admit to a fanbase.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Other than it being a comparison of unequals, yes. It is like comparing Wal-Mart and the local drug store as equals. And then saying that Walmart doesn't dent the cashflow like that drug store.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) BTW...did alphadog change his username? He hasn't been here in a while. If memory serves, he was one of the ones who got really angry about this site having rules and decided to depart.
