  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) Becks should be able to handle Livan. Livan made him look foolish.
  2. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) I say Humber does the seventh, but I hope Ozzie goes to the pen for the eighth. Humber's at 86 pitches, so he should be on a short leash IMO. With the pen the way it is right now, you have to push Philip until at least he gets in trouble. The 7th should be his and if we can push him into the 8th that'd be useful.
  3. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) I'll give you that, but everything now is sabermetrics, that's my point. Ok you can use them as reference but sheesh now a days is WAR, WUZI whatever Laughing at a stat doesn't make it useless. Why is "WAR" any wierder than "ERA"?
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Where can I find pitcher's run support numbers? Looked on BR/Fangraphs and am coming up empty. Phillip has gotta be getting like three runs a game. Link
  5. Wow, the pacing on Hawks's attempted HR call there was really weird.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) He's Humberlievable. Appropriate song to set to his curveball highlights.
  7. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) The same stats that don't take in account the little things and the intangibles of a player That doesn't mean they're useless or should be scoffed at.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Unless it forces the White Sox to bring up Viciedo to replace him earlier than they would have replaced Pierre. Was Nick Swisher close to this bad in August, 2008 when he was benched? Swisher hit .191 (.725 OPS) in the 2nd half of 2008.
  9. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) I hate those damn sabermetrics, I mean who cares about war and whatever, bill James never played and he's gotten rich on these stupid stats Yeah, you've clearly dismantled the usefulness of those stats. Who cares right? Not like anyone who works in the game does. Not like the team Bill James works for has had any success using them.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:48 PM) It was fastballs that he was out in front of. Shows you how off-balanced he is. Those weren't fastballs. The fastball upstairs he was a little late on but fouled it off. The inside pitches he hit hard but foul were much slower and breaking
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) At 0.4 WAR, Fangraphs says Loney is a very below-average first baseman. Technically doesn't that mean he's just about average?
  12. Couple decent swings this AB for Dunn, just out in front on the slow stuff.
  13. Oh great, Dunn with 2 strikes. Deep Breath, focus Adam.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) No reason to even discuss anyone other than Justin Verlander for the Cy Young at this point. Sorry man, but Beckett and his 1.86 ERA? Weaver and Shields? Sheids has 6 CG's and 3 shutouts already. Both have better ERA's, and Verlander pitches in a cavern too. Verlander's on top in "Wins" by 1 and "no hitters" right now.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) Dunn actually makes a bit of sense for LA. James Loney flat out sucks. If the McCourts had been a decent baseball owner instead of an excellent wall street executive, I'd agree. But they've been excellent wall street types and terrible baseball owners instead.
  16. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Not even the Dodgers, if MLB takes full control? When they controlled the Rangers last year they spent money to build a postseason team. Maybe Bud Selig will do his buddy Jerry a favor and take Dunn off his hands... Absolutely not. The Dodgers are a financial mess. the McCourts have pulled out something like $200 million from that franchise by borrowing against the franchise value. If MLB takes that on, they'll have a gigantic pile of debt to deal with.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) I happen to love watching Paulie play defense, too. Trouble is, Adrian Gonzalez is better at that too.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Okay. Humber is ahead of Ogando now though if you're including this game, so 7th I guess. Yeah, but you can't "Count this game" yet, Humber gives up 1 run at some point and he moves back to 8th.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) The two Oakland pitchers (who aren't Gio) don't really count considering they've only started 6 games a piece. He's 8th in ERA if you don't count those guys. They're not showing up on my list because of a lack of qualifying innings. Beckett, Weaver, Shields, Verlander, Pineda, Gio, Ogando, Humber, in order.
  20. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) He's an obvious waiver candidate. What do you think the odds are that a NL team in the postseason hunt might pick up his contract for nothing in return (a la the Rios waiver deal)? An argument could be made that if Dunn moves back to the NL he'll do better, a la Pat Burrell. With that money remaining on his contract and no DH slot? The odds are effectively zero.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) They aren't saying it because they don't think Reed is a great looking prospect. They are saying it because he has dominated each level he visited and looks like a guy who can move quickly through the system. Remember that Dan Hudson guy? He moved through the system pretty damn quickly and that worked out. He struggled for a few performances and the team gave up on him. Not exactly the kind of working out I'd want.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) He is the definition of 'all star starter.' If it was straight on performance, you'd take Miguel Cabrera Edit: Or Gonzalez. How'd I screw that one up?
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) It'd be a shame if Humber wasn't selected to the ASG. He's got the 8th best ERA among starters in the AL and a lot of the guys in front of him have thrown more innings or have more wins (thank the 6 man rotation for that). Win this game for him, pick up 1 more for him before July 3, and maybe get lucky with someone like Gio being on the Dl and he should be there, but there's a lot of pitchers having really good seasons
