  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) McCourt screwed up bad. There is all kinds of paper trails leading to him and his soon to be ex-wife using the dodgers as their personal ATM. The only question I have is...would a bankruptcy court have a problem with that?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) "There isn't a single team in baseball that would bench Adam Dunn." Rongey In this case, I can't say that Rongey is wrong. Teams would bench him part time. They'd platoon him. They'd bench him at home sometimes if there's a righty on the mound. But every team in MLB, if they'd invested $14 mil a year in a guy with Dunn's track record, would still keep sending him out there at least every time there's a righty on the mound.
  3. Last ditch attempt by McCourt to hold onto his cash cow. Hopefully the bankruptcy court is at least as open-eyed as Selig.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) Unfortunately, it would be much better were he doing in on the 2007 White Sox when there was no concern about being "All In." I know the response. Rios/Beckham/Pierre/Dunn are the ones responsible, not Morel. Same things that were said in 2006 when Anderson was struggling and then offense fell off in the 2nd half and it was harder to justify playing him, even though his OPS picked up quite a bit. We'll see. They gave up pretty quickly on Chris Getz. Of course, they had Beckham to replace him, but they never gave him much time to prove himself, either. You can argue that by Chris' play since then the trade was still the right move, but we've never been noted for our patience with younger players. Even Viciedo sat quite a bit last year and was only used in "favorable" match-ups by Ozzie. Worth pointing out again that after this weekend, Brent Morel hit .283 in May, and he's hitting .283 in June. Yes, everyone can agree the power isn't there and an additional walk or two would be nice. But he's not trending down, he flat out doesn't strike out, he is really good with the glove and he has a lot of room to grow.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) Who's actually faster than Viciedo in our starting line-up? Pierre, Alexei Ramirez and Rios, that's probably it. Probably Beckham and Morel as well. AJ and Konerko no. Quentin and Dunn...depends. Dunn is somewhat faster than you'd normally think, but we haven't exactly seen him have many chances to run. Quentin isn't slow...when he's healthy, and he's spent 2 years with a bad foot.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 06:27 AM) You can deal with a Ryan Sweeney and his 700-750 OPS if he's playing 2B. Where you can't live with it is at a corner outfield spot...or in CF, where he's mostly an average defender with the exception of having a stronger arm than most. In today's MLB, you can deal with that production almost anywhere except 1b, if he's adequate on defense and you have a couple other guys who are above average with the bats.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) There is no doubt that Beckham, Dunn, Morel and Pierre should not be starting in a Major League lineup for a team trying to win a division, but unfortunately they are the best options we have sans of course Noodle-arm. Brent Morel is still doing exactly what he should be doing.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:31 AM) You'd think Oz would be sick of this horrible offense. He probably thinks Viciedo will be another station to station plodder. In theory he loves having Juan. Bad thing is we got the old Juan. He's not fast anymore and he's not good in the field. Wow, I think this post is right on.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 05:01 AM) Seems apparent to me that guys like Dunn and Thome made their millions being sluggers ,being pull hitters. To all of a sudden start bunting down the 3rd base line is counter intuitive to what made them their money and probably a lot more difficult than doing what is your bread and butter. You don't bat in the middle of the order to be a singles hitter I'm pretty sure I've seen David Ortiz do it before. It actually kinda makes sense if you can get it down.
  10. That sounds like a plan.
  11. Really, I see no other way to kill this thread other than gas.
  12. Pain...such pain...
  13. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) Not saying I don't believe it, but what's the source on that Ozzie quote? If Ozzie actually believes that Juan is the best player to help this team win then he's about as dumb as I thought he was. Link
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Jeesh, I feel like we could have easily swept that series... You're right.
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) I thought for sure Kenny would recall Harrell for the 17th time. Harrell pitched on Friday. Probably wouldn't have been ready if they needed someone to throw 5 innings.
  16. That's one big, big outside corner. You could have called that as 6 straight balls.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) What he say? Just that he had a few texts before the game askign about what he's doing, said he's doing great, nothing even hinting about him coming up.
  18. At least this will be a quick inning.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) Nothing Ozzie could do there Really, don't you just call McClaren's bluff and leave Teahen in?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Why would we ever think they weren't going to start the inning with Storen? McLaren called that bluff. Don't you pretty much just say "**** you, if you don't want to bring your closer in, leave the setup guy in"?
  21. So wait, we pinch hit Lillibridge for Teahen, taking out the guy who homered off Storen last time, to force them to bring Storen in?
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) I'm going to predict we see PH'ers for Teahen and Beckham, but definitely not for Pierre. Teahen and Pierre will stay in to face Storen because they're lefties. Lillibridge will stay on the bench because he's a righty. Ditto Alexei.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) I disagree. I think that is you are in the majors getting hitters out its much better for you than throwing to guys that will never sniff the big club, and thats regardless of being in the rotation or in the pen. Also, its not like Chris is a situational guy right now that only pitches to lefties, he can and will pitch multiple innings at a time against both lefties and righties. I think he's right where he needs to be both for him and also for the White Sox. He's coming around lately, but the first 2 months of the season, you could really, really see Sale struggling with repeatability of his delivery and release point. Because of that, he couldn't throw anything for a strike regularly. That's a symptom of simply not being in a position where he's throwing enough pitches to get the release point down. The worry there is that if you've got one thing out of whack, suddenly you start overcorrecting other things. Overthrowing the ball or screwing with other things in your mechanics. Those type of corrections, esp. when they're happening in the big leagues where a single mistake pitch will leave the park, are the kind of things that get guys hurt or permanently knock them off kilter. Hopefully he's throwing strikes more right now because he's getting the feel back where he was last year.
