LOL Change in Swing Mechanics took 50 years off his life- Adam Dunn: The Least Exciting Player Ever
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) 12th overall 7th in AL Filtering all offensive stats, we are fairly average across the board. This is with several key players hitting jack s***. What this tells you is how far offense has really gone down over the past few years.- Quietly so no one sees . . .
Ever wonder why Klingon has 26 letters in its alphabet?- Watches
QUOTE (SnB @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) My wife got me a fossil for Christmas. I only wear it for fancier occasions, otherwise it just feels awkward. Really? What species? How old is it? What's the carbon isotope signature? (The scary thing is...that's exactly what my brain did the first time I read this post).- Adam Dunn: The Least Exciting Player Ever
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Comparing Dunn's .624 OPS to anything Soriano's ever done is an injustice to Soriano. No one was comparing the two. Alfonso Soriano 2 weeks ago said that Chicago Fans are the worst, hardest fans in baseball on guys who struggle. I pointed that out in reply to a post that said there were worse fans in several cities.- Ozzie or Kenny?
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Gio and I got a feeling Huddy will be in that category at some point as well. A lot of Kenny's moves are very defensible(besides Hudson for Edwin) but at some point his team have to start winning. I'd be a little surprised if Huddy became a "star" (in the sense of say, regular all-star appearances). But he's a cost-controlled middle of the rotation starter right now.- Adam Dunn: The Least Exciting Player Ever
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) It's not specific to our fanbase either. EVERY fanbase in the sport would be riding him, and I'm willing to bet that quite a few would be worse. And I mean much worse. Soriano thinks you're wrong.- Adam Dunn: The Least Exciting Player Ever
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) If I was Greg Walker, I would change a few things for Dunn. First, I would take the bat off of his back like he does when he is waiting for a pitch. That little Ozzie Guillen bat move is bulls*** IMO. Second, I would have him start his leg kick while the pitcher is in the wind up, to make sure he gets his damn foot down earlier than he is now as he is clearly off balance. This should keep his hands ready and possibly slow down his movement which could help him start to hit into left and left center. I think there's a purpose to a guy like Dunn having the bat deep on his back. He's not a guy who takes the bat and quickly whips it through the zone (a-la Thome). He generates his power by having a big, long swing. If you shorten his swing by having the bat take a shorter path, you're liable to knock out his power stroke. (Yeah, yeah, I know the retort is that he doesn't have one right now).- Dodgers Sold for $2.1 billion
MLB files objection to bankruptcy filing- All-Star Voting -- How Ridiculous is this System?
Don't just tell me how many are from boston/NYC. With the money those 2 teams spend, they should be. Complain about the guys making it who don't deserve to be. Does ARod deserve to be there? He has the highest OPS of any 3b in the AL, and the only guy even close is Youkilis...who I think doesn't defend as well as Arod. Does Cano deserve to be there? 2nd highest OPS of any 2b, and 6 more HR than Kendrick. Does Jeter deserve to be there? F*** no. Does Martin? No, should be Avila from Detroit...with a tossup between Martin, AJ, and Santana as the backup. But you know who else doesn't deserve to be there? Josh Hamilton, and his .868 OPS, and he's not a Yankee/Red Sox player either.- Ozzie or Kenny?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Has Kenny really traded anyone away that has become a star? I was reading an ESPN the magazine article today and basically half the players they were mentioning as studs were traded away from the Tigers. Gio's at the top of the list. He'd have a good shot at being an allstar this year if he was 100% healthy.- 2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) I have game 4 recorded and on the last shot Rose took on LBJ, the right side of the floor was open and Boozer had his man sealed off...why Rose didn't try to take it to the rim is beyond me, LBJ is a heck of a defensive player but anyting but a jumper there is a better shot.Rose absolutly needed to attack LBJ there, hopefully he learns from that. I was screaming "Drive, Drive, Drive!".- All-Star Voting -- How Ridiculous is this System?
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Time for them to revisit how the voting works. Tired of seeing 5 Yankee starters including stiffs like Martin and has-beens like Jeter every year. Usually you can make a case that the Yankees and Red Sox who are starting are guys who are having great years, and then Jeter, who's stuck in that Ripken-like "he's there every year" mode. But man, I didn't realize Martin had gone downhill so quickly. He's sporting a .734 OPS. AJ's at .725 and has 50 more plate appearances.- Ozzie or Kenny?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I agree with everything in this post, except the highlighted part. If anything, he should get 2012 with a new manager. Anything beyond that would depend on the 2012 performance. Depends on what we're defining as the 2012 performance. If, hypothetically, we have a significant payroll cutback this offseason, and trade away a guy or two like D1 and Quentin before they hit free agency to restock, the effects of that wouldn't be viewed for 2-3 years at the earliest.- All-Star Voting -- How Ridiculous is this System?
Russell Martin is down to .230 on the year? Wow, that went down quick.- White Sox @ Rockies, 7:40pm, WCIU
G!- Guys that are becoming legit prospects
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) His numbers are essentially the same as last years when nobody was talking about him, but he just happens to be riding an unsustainably high BABIP. One other thing though...he's also dropped in a bunch more extra base hits this year than he has in previous years. Almost the same number of extra base hits he had in 1.5 times as many at bats last year.- Guys that are becoming legit prospects
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) I remember you saying the same thing about C.J. Retherford... and David Cook. These guys who pile up the singles have their roles...they just need to be able to do it at the big league level. CJ busted before he ever got that high. Can you give me a reason other than "They're in the white sox organization" why one should expect that Kuhn will stop being a .280+ hitter as he moves up? (note that I said a .280-ish hitter, which is where he was before this year and with the .335-ish babip that he put up his first 2 years in the minors0.- WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Maybe Ozzie is still spooked by Brian Anderson, Josh Fields, Chris Getz and now currently Gordon Beckham and Brent Morel? That type of failure can have long-term psychological effects. And Alexei Ramirez.- 2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Well, let's also not forget that in the NBA, there are so many timeouts called in the final minutes that you can match a defensive stopper down the stretch, call timeout, and get your scorer in there. This was certainly key in Game 4 when the Bulls had the last shot and ISO'd again and I cried. I'm still not convinced that the Rose ISO and jump shot was the actual play call there. Or at least if there was an Iso call, Rose wasn't supposed to just dribble and shoot on Lebron. That can't have been the call.- Lesbian couple scolded at Target Field
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) So while he is clearly not qualified to be a security guard at a ball park, he is qualified to be President of the USA> Did he actually get fired?- 2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:34 AM) Which is why you are looking for more than JR Smith. And since Jason Richardson and JR Smith are seemingly the best SG options who appear to be on the FA market...that leaves the position as a major concern.- 2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) BINGO. Having such an offensively inept shooting guard really hurts the team in a vareity of ways. Even if Bogans was knocking down the open 3s that is still all he is a threat to do. When you have a 2 who can create off his own dribble and shoot the 3 (even if hes only decent at both) it completely changes the complexion of the offense. I still have the same retort though...anyone you replace that offensively inept SG with also needs to be able to hold their ground against D-Wade, or you don't gain all that much.
