  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) If Hudson had struggled after the "non-trade" like you suggested earlier, I have no doubt that is exactly what would have happened. But there would have been a signficant group of people...led by me if no one else, who wanted to give him time, because rookies who are scared and trying to throw the perfect pitch every time out tend to work things out in a year or two.
  2. At least that whole lineup played well enough yesterday to earn their playing time today.
  3. Thought some of you would find this one interesting. "Screw Boston."
  4. Anthony Weiner to resign, according to CNN. I was kinda hoping he'd go down in a blaze of glory somehow. Go out and give a press conference stating that he'll resign when David Vitter resigns, or something like that.
  5. Wait, this is in the NY Times, which is a print source which means it must be true, but it's about the Bush Administration using the CIA to illegally investigate a blogger. And as I've been told again and again at this page, everything on blogs is wrong. My mind is broken, both of those things can't be true. Anyway, CIA being used to target blogger Juan Cole at the height of the Iraq war. Pretty much exactly what some of us said they were doing.

  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:05 AM) I truly believe that the Jackson/Hudson + Holmberg trade happened because Washington's GM wanted a proven SP for Dunn at the deadline, then backed out on a Dunn/Jackson trade after KW made the first part of the trade with Arizona. And I said at the time...if that's the case, and KW got caught with a player he didn't want, that's as blatant of a fireable offense as there is in sports.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:30 AM) How are they short term? Eventually they retire.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) Whereas I am guessing it is a mechanical problem or injury if he has lost that much velocity, I wouldn't have a problem with a minor league deal. Really, it's a matter of where a guy like Kazmir wants to go. If he's comfortable trying out a different org, he'll go there. If he wants to come here and pitch for Charlotte, I wouldn't be mad.
  10. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) based on the title of the thread, that seemed to be the implication Once he clears waivers he can sign anywhere, including for minor league deals, for the league minimum or so.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 20-> 10:22 PM) "Greg Walker Needs To Go" Well we wouldn't want it to be anything new or creative.
  12. I wonder what tomorrow's complaining thread will be titled
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) This doesn't rank in the top 10 Yeah. Fathom is right for once.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) So basically Olivo was like Javy Lopez, except with a gun for an arm. But no steroids aided bat.
  15. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) And Gavin is still pitching why?? The bullpen is taxed after the 2 offdays.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) There had to be some "internal" issues between the front office, Ozzie and Olivo....supposedly, there were some things going on there behind the scenes that we never heard about. My perception was that they were very unhappy with his gamecalling and just didn't trust him to work by himself "out on an island" with the pitching staff. It would have made sense. But I have a feeling either KW or Ozzie (probably) or both were against bringing him back. More specifically the pitchers didn't want to have him behind the plate.
  17. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) do you really want to waste 8 million dollars to find out? No one is talking about claiming him.
  18. Bah 3, 4, doesnt really matter. Still a decent start for Gavin.
  19. Pavano had 2 double plays turned behind him in his first 13 starts. 4 tonight.
  20. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) ...And, why would he want to sign with Sox? Because the sox ought to have that reputation now. If Cooper can't fix a pitcher, no one can.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) What I simply don't get is that they were destroying us in late 2008 and almost knocked us out....especially after the infamous Carlos Gomez/Jenks blown save game. And then we won Game 163, you'd have thought that turned things around. I guess the Thome game-winner against Thornton and the Jenks blown save against them are just imbedded in their minds. Do you have any confidence that Santos could go out there and hold a lead against them? Of course not.
  22. Not unless he can make him find a lost fastball. Sorta the opposite of coops game.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Pavano only around 65 pitches. Awful ABs. He's throwing strikes and the sox can't hit them. Recipe for a quick game.
