The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Gov. Walker's war on craft beer: http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/06/1...sin-craft-beer/Now if he starts taxing sausage and cheese, we'll likely have a bloody revolution just north of our border. My reaction when someone posted this in the SLAM Catch-all thread: It sounds like a Miller/Coors sellout, but when you look at the links in that article, it sounds a lot more complicated, there are always quality control issues and management issues, other states without large brewing companies have the same rule and it doesn't shut down local brewers there, and many of the local brewers already use distributors. This is one of those cases where the issue is so local and so foreign to me that applying the national left/right Walker is good/evil standards blindly might get one in trouble.

2011 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 10:22 AM) I'm not sure "fun" is the word I would use for my team this season (or any other), but after many, many years of being told things were going to be different, they finally are. I don't get so down on them for losing. I actually have some hope we'll contend soon. It sucked losing John Lamb (#18 overall prospect according to BA) to TJ surgery, but I still believe we've got enough pitching in-house. Mike Montgomery and Danny Duffy are still developing. There's still some hope for O'Sullivan and Hochevar. I believe Aaron Crow will end up in the rotation. Odorizzi looks very, very promising. We've also got some interesting trade pieces, not sure what they'll bring, but we'll see... So who gets traded at 1b? Kila or Butler?

2011 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) MLB has thrown out the possibility of re-alignment. Both leagues would have 15 teams, so at least one interleague match up always. The one proposal that seems to have the most support is one with no divisions. Top 5 teams make the playoffs. Unless you're going to rebalance the schedule a-la the NBA, I wouldn't like this.

Konerko franchise mark
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 01:58 AM) I think Quentin is going to be the MVP candidate from the White Sox. Either way, I think Bautista is going to end up winning it. It's a small sample obviously, but he's hitting .233 with a .672 OPS in June.

Betting on tonight's game...
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:41 PM) No s***. I honestly do avoid betting (other than the NFL) pretty well, just because of all the s*** you see when you live here. But sometimes it's just a form of entertainment just like anything else is. But when you lose, someone always has to jump in and tell you why you're such a degenerate. My apologies for being that douche this time.

Despicable
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Crain had pitched 3 out of the last 4 days, so he probably wasn't available. Thornton was spent. If Ozzie brings in Harrell or Ohman and they blow the game, people who think they should have pulled Santos would be complaining about the Sox pulling their closer. I have no trouble with Ozzie leaving him in there. He cruised threw the first 2 hitters easily. Sizemore had a big hit. Looking at the back of his baseball card, odds are usually against that. Honestly...we all knew what was coming after the HBP. It was only a question of whether it would be a walk, wild pitch, or whether it would be something nearly hit out. That said...anyone who's pretending they'd have pulled Santos there isn't managing for a reason. MLB's built up this "Closer" aura, if you're going to have a closer, he stays in there.

Betting on tonight's game...
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) Thanks Dad. You kidding? My Christmas present growing up varied in quality in direct relationship to how my dad performed at the casino. I just hate losing for stuff like that. I think I wound up the opposite of my dad in that regard.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Ultra-painful. But not season-ending. It would certainly be nice if they could respond well to it. They didn't respond well to these losses earlier this year.

QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Even if we get the next two it doesn't make up for letting wins get away from us that were in the bag...it is not like we are coming from a position of strength they need to win these games to get back into the race. And yes the offense should have put more on the board but it really doesn't matter we gave up 4 runs in the ninth with only two hits against a bunch of .230 hitters and a call up, and a team that had lost 10 in a row and was defeated... This is baseball. The 62 mets werent "defeated". No team is ever "defeated"

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) The game tonight is not indicative of anything on its own. Even the best teams in baseball have nights like these. We controlled the game throughout and then got done in by some hit batsmen and two hits in the 9th. Don't let the 9th be indicative of the whole night. Our weak point has been offense this year, and today we provided some. To be fair, the sox offense should have put this game away early.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Reality is s*** teams do the same mistakes over and over Sox have blown the most games from 7th inning on in baseball by a wide margin it is not just about tonight! This is the Sox's 9th blown save on the season. Houston leads the league with 13. There Are 10 teams with more.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:14 PM) You can't start 11-22, lose games like this, and make the playoffs. That's why starting 11-22 almost always leads to an October at home, there's no margin for error. When you start like a major league team, then an occasional loss like this can be absorbed. But with the start this team had, every single loss like this is a major step closer towards the teams typical failed season that ends after 162. We weren't going to go the whole year without Santos blowing a save.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) They stole one last night actually. Dinked and dunked about 4 runs without a hit into the outfield. And scored 5 more by hammering the ball.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Of course Sergio s*** the bed, but there was no excuse to have him still in the game. Maybe KW should get off his ass and get us another righty in the pen. You know full well Terence isn't a manager in baseball who would have pulled him before the double.
