Rather than having an "uck no" reaction, my reaction is to ask "What would the Bulls do about the SF spot?" Clearly, unless you want Ellis guarding James, that move only works in tandem with another.

NFL To LA Rumors Heat up Again
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) It is also sending a message to fans that they don't really matter. More than say...locking the doors and threatening to not have a season?

NFL To LA Rumors Heat up Again
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Talks Held With Five NFL Teams About Moving To L.A. The Rams? I didnt know they were even interested in moving. Remember, if this is getting published...then each of those teams is also sending a warning shot to their city/state governments saying "give us a bigger blank check."

Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Without knowing the exact numbers, I would say it isn't really unusual at all. The explosion in trading volume in every single aspect of trading has been in the short term volume. Having sat on order desks and in trading crowds for the vast majority of my time in the business, I'd say it is now "normal". I would say that it varies from commodity to commodity based on liquidity, delivery method, and depth of market. I'll hold back my comments on the CFTC for obvious reasons. I learned something. Gracias.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Well duh, of course you are going to pick average versus the two extremes and be right more often than not. Thanks Mr Obvious. You asked "Which extreme are they closer to". Right in the middle is a perfectly plausible answer.

Financial News
This bit is from remarks by the head of the CFTC. Legitimate question here for 2k5 and the other trading folks....the head of the CFTC is clearly trying to make it sound like this is unusual/improper and that speculators are essentially dominating the oil price market. Is an 80% turnover from day-trading unusually high compared to, say, other commodities?

Illinois enacts Internet sales tax law
I don't know if their tax is structured the same way as in Illinois, but the dirty stinking hippies in Texas voted overwhelmingly today to add in an internet-based sales tax structure into their budget deal. This moved comes after their Governor vetoed another attempt to add in an internet sales tax.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) The key is which team they are closer to. I'd bet more on the 4-11 versus the 30-15. The 4-11 would average out to 16-29 over the same 45 games. I'd have to bet they're closer to the middle, if they're a healthy team...but below that if they continue losing key guys.

Juan Pierre
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) Cuban Monsters putting up .870 OPS's in AAA don't often put up .950 OPS's in the Majors. Just sayin', I'd still love to see him up here, and if he did put up a .950 I'd have to call a doctor because my erection would last more than four hours. He'd then ask what I took, and I'd say, "I took Cuban Tank". He'd probably hang up. I'd love to know what his OPS is if you toss out the first 2 weeks when he was in a slump.l

A team is never actually as good as they look when they're playing their best. Conversely, they're never actually as bad as they look when they're playing their worst (remember that for right now).

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Ok Tim Roth... I do agree though. A person would never send that out if they really made that in a serious way...unless it was Steve... If it was an eharmony dating profile they might not have expected it to get out onto the Youtubes. (Although this is not proof that it isn't fake of course).

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Wade only played 6 less minutes than his average. Wade was -13 compared to Lebrons -11. Meaning that in less time, Wade on the floor hurt Miami more than Lebron did. Your entire +/- argument is based on 1 basket?

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) And the reason Lebron isnt posting more is because if he goes below the ft line he draws an immediate double team, so last night he was trying to spread the floor and facilitate offense. If you want to complain about any aspect of his game, it would have been 3 point shooting and that he maybe should have passed more. Even if Lebron only scored 17, he had 10 assists, which means that he contributed to at minimum 37 points for the Heat. And no one is even mentioning that Lebron is basically playing 45+ minutes every single night. Well, first of all...If Lebron was doing such a great job at spreading the floor out, they shouldn't have lost. Secondly...if playing 45+ minutes every night is hurting him, then he should stop doing it.

I like this guy. This is the kind of speech you'd get if the character Stephen Colbert actually ran a full Presidential campaign.- U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) He's been incredibly annoying all series, and unfortunately his "analysis" has really suffered. This broadcasting group used to be my favorite (hopefully they can get Kerr to replace Jackson), but JVG just shuts up when something doesn't go the Heat's way. And his "oh that's a clear no call" or "that's a missed call!" commentary rarely fits what actually happened, especially on replays. I'm deliberately not watching any of this series, but if JVG is doing that, that's somewhat disappointing. This used to be one of the better PBP lineups in sports because they'd actually call things out pretty evenly and give good detail on how the game was progressing.- U.S. launches airstrikes on Libya
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) I stand by my "pointless" statement. Either we go in and end the f***ing thing, or we don't (I vote we never should have been involved to begin with). Anything in between is pointless and a waste of money. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Juan Pierre... and rightfully so If Juan Pierre is the scapegoat that means everyone else is hitting where they should be, and this team will be battering people.- Sox Draft OF Keenyn Walker with #47
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) I know his speed with a 40 is pretty impressive. It is just his speed in the 40 that I worry about. (rimshot)- Juan Pierre
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) So a bad decision ceases to be a bad decision if the game is eventually won? You're sounding like greg now, Balta. The argument that is made in reply is that moves which appear to be horrible decisions at the time can come back and help you later. Hypotheticals. Maybe allowing Pierre to have a free hand to run right now makes him realize there's something wrong with his technique and he snaps off 25 straight steals to end the season. Maybe putting out the sunday lineup in the 3rd game of every series keeps guys more rested and they have a better than expected September. Maybe benching Brent Morel for the month of May for no obvious reason gave him more time to work on his swing and he'll hit 3-4 extra HR down the stretch. Maybe Alexei bunting into that triple play finally sent Alexei in to work on his bunting skills and he'll wind up with an important sacrifice sometime in August against the Twins. I don't believe all (any?) of those, but if one positive thing comes out of 3 -4 negative things by a manager, that 1 positive thing can produce enough wins to make all of the seeming mistakes worth it. So yes, the only fair way to evaluate things is in aggregate. - The Democrat Thread
