  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) Plus Hamels has already won a title, acting as one of the driving forces behind it as the NLCS and WS MVP. He's got nothing to prove and if I were him, I'm taking the money. Plus there's got to be the injury/struggle bug in the back of his mind too, where if he gets to FA healthy and gets the 7 year contract offer, he's set even if the changeup blows up his elbow.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) with the money that Lee and Halladay make, I would bet he is one of the most likely to leave. Don't forget that Ryan Howard's contract explodes. He's making $20 million this year and the next 2, then jumps to $25 million.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) I would have agreed with that, but I thought the way they played at times in the Indiana and Atlanta series looked like a team that thought the wins would come easy. I don't think they thought that they would come easy...I think they were caught offguard by teams that came out looking to beat the Bulls up. The Heat have no interest in outmuscling a team.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Yeah, i do worry that the league will be like "those are reach in fouls, don't let those occur" and all the sudden we have to play off of james/wade. This is the playoffs. If the Refs want to call the ticky tack fouls on us every time we approach those two, fine...we'll just stop committing the light fouls and we'll throw them to the ground a dozen times. If the refs call the playoffs too tightly, you just make the fouls hurt more.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) I hope the Bulls haven't bought into all the hype getting thrown around. This is a really good Miami team...alright, maybe not a good "team", but they are going to be a hard team to beat 4 times in a 7 game series with Wade, Lebron, and Bosh. If there's one thing I expect to see from this team, it's "Not believing the hype". A Mr. Thibodeau sold me on that when his response to a question after Game 1 involved the phrase "Well we still have some things to tighten up".

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 18, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Seems like it would be the perfect time to insert his hot bat in a struggling lineup, especially when you have his position open basically by futility. Sigh. You can make the opposite case quite easily here. He's settling into doing exactly what he needs to do, being somewhat patient and killing the ball when pitchers pitch to him. But...he's been doing that for all of what, 2, 3 weeks now, and doing so without having to break through a second slump? There's benefit long-term to having him getting used to beating people up just like this in AAA. That doesn't mean this is the best thing for winning the Central this year, but if you want to do the best thing possible for DV's long term development...a few more weeks/a couple months of this level of performance in AAA is the best thing you can do for him.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) There is zero chance that Weaver doesn't hit free agency. Scott agrees.
  8. The Sox need to be close to .500 by Memorial day. 5 games under is not close. There are 12 games before Memorial day, and the Sox are 7 games below. The Sox need to go ~ 8-4 or better over the next 12 games. 7-5 leaves them 5 games under .500 on Memorial day.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) Kirk was throwing ally oops to him all game. It was fun. Than it went to his head. Part of it though was he had some terrible things happen elsewhere in his life. He was really solid for about 1/2 of a season with the Knicks.
  10. Not that it would have gotten through the House, but may as well point it out. The Senate yesterday voted to add $2 billion a year to the deficit by filibustering a Democratic-led proposal to remove those subsidies from oil companies.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) As of today, they sure are the best fit for Danks. Take a look at the 2012 Free Agent Pitching class, as it currently stands. Jared Weaver Matt Cain Cole Hamels Zach Greinke John Danks Isn't Greinke the only one that the Yankees aren't the best fit for?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) I don't think it is any coincidence that his offense is turning around after his defense is. I don't think its any coincidence that he's hitting >.300 in May, meaning it took him a month to adapt to the league. Just like it took him a month to adapt to AA. And how it took him a month to adapt to AAA. I also don't think it's a coincidence that Ozzie started benching him regularly right around the time he started hitting.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 18, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) Lillibridge is not an everyday option. Take a look at his minor league numbers before proposing that. He can be our 25th man while he's still producing, but do not move him into a role where he will surely fail. At this point, I really do what to see what the Stealth Elf can do with more AB's. He's done nothing but produce in the bigs for the last 2 years as a backup.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 06:13 AM) We're going to have our hands rather full with this guy should both teams make the finals. He creates a bevy of problems that no other player in the game does. I think Gibson is a decent matchup for him on the outside, same way Thibs used Gibson against the Miami small lineup on Sunday.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:31 AM) Dayan's the special one. If I was KW, I'd let him keep working hard to earn it. See if he can stay on this roll of plate discipline for the rest of May. Hopefully Pierre can get hot for 2 weeks and fetch something. More than that..I really like the BB pace he's showing lately. That's right where he needs to be; hammering the ball when it is in the zone but laying off enough pitches to force people to pitch to him.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2011 -> 04:00 AM) Is this going to be a handshake deal where we offer arbitration but he goes to St. Louis for less money than he would have gotten (at minimum) from the Sox? STOP SAYING MARK IS GOING TO ST. LOUIS. IT'S BEEN WRONG EVERY TIME ITS BEEN SAID SINCE 2006.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2011 -> 08:13 AM) According to Stone's numbers, AJP is actually average to second. That was "Speed" though, there's several elements to a successful throw. Accuracy counts as well. Being able to get a throw off on a good pitch counts.
  18. And it ends in Brents hands appropriately.
  19. The normal Santos is here tonight.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) That was Jeteresque. No it wasn't, if it was we'd have scored
  21. I'd consider Vizquel for Lexi here too
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) That's why! lol. If you were going to use him why not for morel there?
  23. Never mind nicely done dallas.
