  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 11, 2011 -> 02:49 AM) From 2004 to 2009, a time frame covering 166 starts and 1070 IP, Jake Peavy put up an ERA of 2.99 and an ERA+ of 131. John Danks, a guy a few people consider to be an ace or just short of an ace, has put that an ERA+ that good once in a season - 2008 when he was at 138 - and he is at 124 for his career. It may not be an ace in the vein of Roy Halladay or Tim Lincecum, but it's pretty damn good and is probably good as one of the best 15 pitchers in the league. There's 2 problems with that timespan that aren't hit by how you presented the data. 1. During that stretch, he averaged 178 IP a season. While that's good, that also means a fair number of DL stints and a limited number of 200+ inning seasons. 2. There's some inconsistency, probably built into injuries, in there. He has 3 seasons with an OPS+ over 200 in there, for his OPS+ average to be 131, there have to be some close to average pitchers in there.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) I saw the other day he's averaged 34 homers and 97 RBI's for the last 7 years. Still, not quite dominant numbers considering he's a 1B playing in a hitter's park. Gary Sheffield has over 500 homers and I'm not sure I would vote for the guy if I had a ballot. Probably. But I'd have to think long and hard about it. Sheffield's an admitted tetrahydrogestrinone user.
  3. Man, this morning I'm still impressed at how ballsy it was to put $130 mil on the bench for the whole 4th.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ May 11, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) Teague is 5/20 from outside the paint this series. Maybe stop going over the screens and make him shoot some. Rose isn't getting any help when he has trouble getting over the picks. Gibson and Asik took care of that in the 4th
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 11, 2011 -> 05:18 AM) I mean it's going to be hard for us to get better just because we're so far up cap wise, and we've got some really untradeable contracts, plus J-Rich is likely to leave as a FA. As I've said before, I think we need to get younger at other key positions, and try to bring back players who have success in our system in the past e.g I'd love to get Courtney Lee back with the Magic, because he's exactly the type of glue 2 we need, and he's good friends with Dwight. still gotta remember the new CBA. If something like a franchise tag or a hard cap appears it changes everything.
  6. Lol Kerr ripping Reggie miller about the 98 playoffs
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) Time for a hit and run. Nope
  8. Big props to Thibs for benching the starters
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) Everybody should know how much of a Luol hater I was prior to this year. He's been spectacular all year. Bigget all defense snub by far
  10. Bynum suspended 5 games next year for the cheap shot

    Just assume that they are all trying to rip you off. They all are, just in different ways.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) Up in the zone with everything. He's been that way so often this year. Thats not what I've seen from him.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Since the bench has been so damn bad this game, Thibs might have to keep his starters out there for the start of the 4th. He did that with rose last game and it was the last 4 tired minutes that killed the bulls
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) How much do they miss that dome now? At least they had a warning first. With the dome was saw in Nov. The hail might have gone right through.
  15. How are the hawks not in foul trouble?
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) {Edit}, Newt. I'm pretty sure we don't allow that.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) What's up with that? Would you want to see that team? If you spend all your money on tix there's no beer money left
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) Like in 2008, when Peavy went 10-11 despite a 2.85 ERA. Or when he went 11-14 in 2006. 2.85 ERA in Petco in the NL isnt really that great
  19. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) He'll get his chance when they play a NL team. What is the team offense stats when Danks is out there? Anyone know? This year Danks has the 3rd worst run support in the AL. Humber has the worst.
  20. Golfball sized hail at Target field
  21. Feel like the bulls ought to be just starting to pound this team but they aren't. Hawks just hanging around
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:06 PM) Why not stick with a 6 man rotation until it stops working. Does it sound just as ridiculous to have an overpaid mental midget start because he's making all of that money? You never know he could be the light outs closer that is needed instead of the other one that has blown 5? saves and only throws hard? Do we throw out logic, tradition and economics at the expense of winning? You and I agree here. Try the 6 out until someone pitches their way out of it. What we really need to make that work is a lot of 7 ip starts.
  23. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Then again there may be guys with great stats but mediocre W-L, and they are still mediocre in the win column when going to a different team that is not the Yankees. Some guys just win when they are on the mound. So many Sox fans believe that about Peavy. There is that mental aspect of the game a certain player brings to a team. How do they fare against division rivals? How many times against the Twins is it that this whole team shows no mental toughness? I find it odd that fans look to Jake Peavy for this and no one else. I think you have to take some consideration with wins and losses. John danks does not make the team not score runs for Danks.
  24. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) No. They should tear down the mistake by the lake and go with a retractable roof, but I believe sports teams should always remain in their city they represent. I don't even like the Bears, but this would be a mistake. Just like it would be for the Bulls, Cubs or Sox or Hawks. Tearing down soldier and building a new are a on the spot really was the best option, just not the cheapest
  25. 2nd unit not impressing
