  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) This is a great question. I say immediately, no. 500 HRs is nice, but what about a career .250 average and being a poor fielder? Let's say for argument's sake that Konerko ends his career with 505 HRs and a career BA of .283, and Dunn ends his career with 550 HRs and a career BA of .245. Let's go a step further and say both end up with one World Series ring. Who has a better chance at the HoF? This isn't an answer but a note...Adam Dunn has 27.3 WAR in his career, Paul Konerko has 30.3 (in the fangraphs world).
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) So, what exactly is your argument? I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at here. I imagine that these tests would be conducted by an outside agency that is only looking for banned substances and only reporting back to the league/teams that the player is either clean or that he tested positive for a specific substance. My argument is that "if you put me in the place of an NFL player, I would not want my blood taken, and I'd make sure there were a whole helluva lot of stipulations/requirements to how it was used if I had it taken, and I'd make sure I got something useful back in negotiations in exchange for having my blood taken."
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Shut up you retard. Yeah, that's not offensive at all.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) There's a question for you, if Dunn gets to 500, is he in the HOF? He's one of the best power hitters of the era, but that's all he was good at. Career average of .250, bad defender, gonna be a DH the next few seasons. He has never been in the playoffs, has never even finished top 20 in MVP voting. But he will hit that 500 homer mark and he's never been directly accused of PEDs. Frankly, I don't know. He's got a good shot at 550+, and that'd be even harder to say "no" to.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Even if you assume Mark tried to pitch until his 40's, his career arc isn't looking as pretty. Have you looked at M-56's numbers for this season before saying that?
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) White House to Pakistan: 'No Apologies' for OBL Raid
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) And the odds of that happening are much, much less. I'd reply that they're only less because I don't think M-56 wants to try for it.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) That's because Mark has zero chance. Let me put it this way...M-56 getting to 300 wins would make him a much more sure thing than Konerko getting to 500 HR.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) That's awesome news. I have always found it hilarious that any union would oppose blood tests. It's basically just admitting that the players use HGH or some form of banned substance that can't be detected by urine tests. There's more of a privacy thing though...I wouldn't want my insurance company having a sample of my blood, for example, because they'd be judging me based on the chances of getting a disease through no fault of my own. An NFL team with access, even partial access to a blood sample could do a ton of advanced work these days, and more within a few years.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Or who ends up with more career homeruns... Konerko or Dunn? If Dunn averages 36+ HR/year over this contract, he gets to 500.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) To me a more interesting question is does he pass Frank as the all-time Sox homer leader? If he stays healthy, yes I think he will.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) If Brent Lillibridge hits 500 career home runs, do you think he will make the HOF? Yes, because at his age, it would take him suddenly becoming a 40+ HR a year player for a decade, which would put him as one of the best players in baseball for several years. See, considered the hypothetical.
  13. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Well, looks like I responded a little too late... Where did you end up getting tickets? Like I said, there really didn't seem like a bad seat in the house so I'm sure you'll be good wherever. The "not a bad seat in the house" is pretty much what I wanted to hear. Thanks. I was debating whether to shell out an extra $35/ticket to move down even closer, but I decided against it, and I'd have been much more on the sides if I'd done that.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Just saying it'll be a moot point since that's his only hope for a glimmer of a chance. "Debate topic: if unlikely event x happens, do you think correlated event y will happen or not?" "X won't happen so I'm going to remind everyone that it's unlikely."
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) Well, not sure if this was directed at me since I did go to Game 3, but it didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house. We were upper deck, mid-court, and we were all glad we sat in the middle rather than the baseline/corner. I think it's worth the extra to sit in the middle... But how much more $ are we talking, and are you looking at the lower or upper bowl? Yeah, meant you, oops. Anyway, just bought em, $100 a ticket price, I wound up in the back section of the lower bowl, a little bit offset from the middle.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Sears considers leaving Illinois If you read the article, it's more like "renew the tax breaks that expire in 2012 or we'll find someone else to give us tax breaks".
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) I don't think he gets to 500. That sorta misses the point of the thread.
  18. Well, there we are, 2 more red shirts in the crowd for game 6.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) I'd like to point out that Konerko got injured after this banner went up. Technically, no he didn't, he had a recurrence of something that's bothered him for a while, then the next day had 5 hits, one of which ripped the cover off the baseball.
  20. Probably because of that throw home yesterday.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Am I the only one why someone last Monday or Tuesday didn't try to find some intel on where Osama's body was dumped into the sea and then try and get a dive crew (ie: searching for Titantic stuff) to try and find the body? I know it's probably more fantasy than realistic, but crazier things have been attempted. Yeah, I think you're the only one wanting to make a trip into the waters somewhere off of India/Pakistan in a small boat maneuvering through U.S. carrier groups.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Give me that and the right to trade draft picks, and my list of complaints narrows to a real Olympic style drug testing program. So you don't buy MLB's contention that being unable to trade picks helps the small market teams because they're forced to actually draft someone?
