  1. Very.
  2. Really, babies have knees that hurt like these?

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) We will then be shifting gears to the inadequacies in player development! Seriously though, not a fan of hard-slotting at all. It will really hurt many of the small market teams who have been and need to invest heavily in home grown players. The small market teams are the ones at a real disadvantage without hard slotting, because they have to choose whether to spend money on the top level team or on the draft, and they also have much less leverage when trying to negoatiate an extension with a guy that does come up.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) No. I have no idea what they are going to spend. I expect a similar amount to the past few years or less justified by not having to spend on a 1st rounder. Many teams are preparing to dump significant money into signings this year because of how deep the class is, and the possibility that this will be the last draft without hard slotting. There is almost zero chance the Sox are one of these teams. What on Earth will people complain about if MLB goes to hard slotting and an international draft?
  5. Prove me wrong, Edwin.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) He is already getting asked about trades... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws Wasn't that happening to everyone about this time last year as well?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) Come on, man...Mattingly was a better pure hitter, but he played at a position which traditionally features big power numbers. You're honestly going to say the "era" is responsible for the difference between 500 HR and 222? Mattingly has an MVP, a #2 finish, and a 4 year stretch where his OPS+ was 156, 156, 161, and 146. Konerko has topped 140 in OPS+ only 1 time in his career; last season, where he put up 156. His OPS+ in that 2004-2006 stretch went 127, 136, 134.
  8. Perhaps someday.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ May 7, 2011 -> 05:08 AM) Yes. But here are the two categories I can think of 1. Arrested, deported, basically alive and forced to be away, and decided not telling the kids, decided that not taking the kids with was better for the kids. 2. Dead and no one could trace them back to the kids. I can't think of a scenario where they are alive and are staying away, or not getting word to the kids, where it is actually better for the kids. Do you have any ability to check with ICE or if you do that will that wind up having the kids deported as well?
  10. Now this conversation is making my knees ache.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) I loathe people who say Osama "won". His goal was to bring down America. He has failed.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) And neither was Konerko. But if he'd played with the Yankees/Red Sox, he would have been, that's the point of asking "would he be a HOF-er if he'd played with the Yankees".
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) That, I am not so sure about. But with the stance the writers seem to be taking on the guys that used steroids, one would think they would want to reward the players who were never really under suspicion. Perhaps you're right, after rethinking things a bit, but the 500 HR has been the magic number in the past, has it not been? Yes, currently the only players who have hit 500+ HR and not been elected to the HOF are the steroid guys. Fred McGriff is the interesting case. He was a very very good hitter for a decade, and wound up with 493 HR. He has not made the HOF and probably won't. Yet, if he'd hit 7 more HR in his career, would that have made him a HOF-er? I'd say Konerko is the same question here.
  14. If PK14 pulled a Fred McGriff and wound up on ~497 HR, would you think he was a HOF-er?

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 5, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Just saw "Singles" for the first time...GREAT soundtrack. And appearances by 3/5 of Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell and Kim Thayil, and Alice in Chains. Yeah. I'm still a fan of the 8 minute version of "Drown" from that soundtrack.
  16. I dunno, depends on what buffet we're talking about.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Don Mattingly didn't make it either. Don Mattingly's team wasn't in the playoffs every year.
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) I have no doubt he'd be in the hall in that case. And I'm not being sarcastic. The difference would be after 10+ years with the Yankees/Red Sox, he'd be in the top 5 all time in postseason HR.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) and that just blew my mind. crawford mauled rose on that shot, and salvatore walked to the scorers table and was EMPHATIC that it was an inadvertant whistle. oh well, i see the bulls putting a beatdown on the bulls in chicago and closing it out in atl I don't think Crawford "mauled" him, I think there was a lot of contact but Rose generated the contact by jumping towards Crawford.
  20. Hey, Doc, if you wind up in here, how good is the seating in the Hawks arena? There are Tix available in the lower ring on the edges/corners near the baskets and I'm wondering if I should shell out the extra money to move towards the middle of the court.
  21. Eventually they'll run out of ideas for ways to shorten the phrase "laughing".
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) If it were the easy, it would have been done long ago. I think there's one more element with Al Qaeda though...they're particularly interested in the spectacular attack. Their doctrine said that an enormous attack (which happens through the grace of their deity) would be the sort of thing that would bring the U.S. to its knees. They've had some guys do the piecemeal stuff like trying to bring down a plane, but an attack that kills 10 at a stadium or mall just has never been their style
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 9, 2011 -> 02:12 AM) yeah, but that's a stretch to say he got the no-no because of that call. Verlander's though, he got very lucky the ump was behind Miggy, because that was 100% a hit. Verlander should have his ump call up Galarraga's ump and trade.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 8, 2011 -> 11:14 PM) Usually the Bulls half court set has alot of movement creating match-up problems for the opposition. Tonight however, was give Derrick the ball at the top of the key and.. just watch. Especially for the last 6 minutes, this. DR1 could blow past some poeple for the shot, but there was no spacing and a lot of collapsing on Rose. You can blame lots of people. None of the SG's could shoot, Deng wasn't scoring, Noah wasn't scoring, Boozer stopped getting plays called for him, but the offensive execution fell apart down the stretch and the defensive intensity, especially on Smith, wasn't there to pick it up.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) Dayan walked. I'll give him some credit...he's starting to take the occasional walk while he's struggling. That's positive.
