  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Let's hope the weight CQ lost was that rather heavy chip that resides on his shoulder... I dunno, Quentin seemed like he was at his best when he was at his angriest in 08. Remember that Twins series?
  2. I like it. Until Hawk comes up with something.
  3. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) any box scores or tweets from the game today? No game, rainy conditions.
  4. Here's a Merkin read on the Humber/Harrell/Leesman trio.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) I wonder if Bobby is going to get boo'ed now when he comes back. Would love to see Paulie or AJ hand him a Blown Save. I'd follow the same rule for anyone from the 2005 team. First time out, he gets a standing ovation. Every time after that, he's the guy we're trying to beat.
  6. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) All of those that left though had to go for one reason or another and most due to declining play. They couldn't handle being told they were not good enough. Maggs was coming off knee surgery and his departure allowed us to fill multiple holes and win a WS. Then you have professionals like I mentioned earlier who went about their business, found new jobs and had no problems. Thing is...lots of teams have guys who are let go either for contractual reasons, age reasons, or performance reasons, but I do struggle to think of any team that is ripped as regularly by its former players as the Sox are.
  7. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Who else left here and bad mouthed the Sox? Seriously, it is way less than you make it out to be. Thome, Rowand, Garland, Blum, Garcia, Contreras, Linebrink, Iguchi, Crede, Uribe. Frank Thomas, Ordonez, Carl Everett to some extent, some of the failed prospects (Josh Fields, Brian Anderson, I think McCarthy had a few words).
  8. Let me write out the scenarios, maybe that'll make more sense. To make the numbers easier, I'm just going to assume that he's making $12 million this season, $12 million next year, and he'd take $6 million next year in a buyout. Scenario 1: no lockout. If Hamilton stands pat, he makes $24 million. If Hamilton accepts the buyout, he makes $18 million + playoff bonus + whatever contract he gets next year. Scenario 2: 1/2 the season lost in a lockout. If Hamilton stands pat, he makes $18 million (less if the union accepts league-wide salary reductions). If Hamilton accepts the buyout, he makes $18 million + playoff bonus + whatever contract he earns for next year, even if it's just a short $1-2 million veterans deal somewhere. Plus, he gets all that $18 million up front. Scenario 3: full season lost in a lockout. If Hamilton stands pat, he makes $12 million. If Hamilton accepts the buyout, he makes $18 million + playoff bonus. The only scenario where Hamilton makes more money is if there is no lockout or a very short lockout with no large league-wide contract cutbacks...AND you assume that Hamilton would only get a crappy contract next year. All the other ones, he risks taking quite a bit less money if there is a long lockout.
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Sometimes, you have to address things whether or not you want to. I'm sure Ozzie would prefer that he didn't have this issue but he does, through no fault of his own. Can you convince me that he *Has* to address Jenks? Ozzie "Had" to address Oney. I'm not sure if he did, but I hope we can both agree that the Oney thing shouldn't keep happening. Maybe there's a real current of anger behind the scenes at Jenks that is on the verge of boiling over if Ozzie didn't say something, maybe there's some real divisions in this locker room already (all bad things IMO)...if things are so bad that Ozzie absolutely needed to address this issue regarding a player that isn't even there any more, then the team already has some much deeper issues developing.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I don't think it works that way. No play, no pay. Exactly. So if he takes the buyout now, then he gets paid part of next year's salary no matter what; it gets paid to him right now.
  11. QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) Guillen is not the problem here. Both times this crap has started that fat tub of goo opened his damn mouth first. It seems pretty damn obvious to me that Jenks got his wittle (not a typo) feelings hurt and now is acting like a petulant 12 year old girl. Grow the F up already. It's a business. The problem is Yas, the "It's a business" flows both ways. I just can't see how ozzie responding at this point makes the Sox business better.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) There is a better chance the new CBA could kill him looking for a new contract. That's going to happen at the end of next season anyway right? So why not get paid for next year whether it happens or not?
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Is there a list of players that are most likely going to be bought out? Here's some.
  14. The governor of Wisconsin has ordered that the WI capitol building be cleared of protesters at 4:00 EST today.
  15. Ooh, Lakers/Thunder with Perkins in the lineup. This ought to at least be interesting to see.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) You would think, but who knows. Rip could really need the money. Again, this isn't nearly as cut and dry as you're making it. There is a real chance that he could make more money by taking the buyout, and on top of that, he gets all the money up front.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) The DVR is set and I am feeling like a kid in a candy store You know, I didn't think of that...thanks!
  18. Chase Utley has had a flare-up of tendinitis in his knee and is missing a few days.
  19. If anyone out there needed convinced that actively intervening in Libya is an awful, awful idea, this ought to do it.
  20. Cabrera will be playing for the Tigers tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I dont know, it seems as if he would forgo the additional 6 million now, play his ass off down the stretch with a playoff team, he could spin this into a contract worth at least 6 million next year and possibly a few more years with more money Fully dependent on the CBA of course If it were me, I'd take the buyout, and expect that if I'm lucky only 1/2 the season happens next year anyway, so anything I signed for next year was a bonus.
  22. Again with this thread?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) So in other words if he wasn't worth $6 million to someone next year, he lost out. Assuming of course that there was a full season next year. The math changes totally if 1/2 the season is lost.
