  1. Another part of the Wisconsinan budget allows the Governor to sell off state-owned power generation equipment to private energy companies without having to solicit bids for the facilities. I think most of the Democrats who read this thread would know exactly who that clause is tailored to benefit.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 21, 2011 -> 11:55 AM) That's what I said earlier in the thread, if Pujols would have said last year that he wanted to be the highest paid player, St. Louis may have planned for that. Instead he said he wanted good players around him and that's what they did. But they absolutely had to know what his contract demands were (Hell, they could have sat down and tried to extend him at the same time as trying to sign Holliday).
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 21, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) Yeah but you can't just replace player A with player B in a vacuum. What about the impact of teammates if you have a certain player, say Kotsay, in your lineup? Are guys pressing more and popping out or grounding into double plays because they know Kotsay is on deck? Having a huge hole like that in your lineup ultimately affects other players as well and conversely should have a positive impact when you sub him for a player of Dunn's caliber. If nothing else, it would have made the last month of the season more interesting, because we wouldn't have been out of the race.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 21, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) IMDB's rating system is worthless as it's run by nerds with too much time on their hands. So, it's run by people like us?
  5. F***, that's while I'm in Houston. Guess either I'll have to catch it, while drunk at the hotel, or just DVR it.
  6. Different topic but with personal interest...does anyone remember if there were any impacts on air travel when the 1995 government shutdown happened? It was before the era of the nationalized TSA screenings so it's not comparable directly, I just can't remember whether the air service at the time wound up disrupted. (I'm flying to a conference 2 days after the shutdown deadline, so if there's no budget deal or continuing resolution, I'm a little concerned about my flight(s).)

  8. Let it be. That's kinda catchy right?
  9. QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 11:23 PM) Of course they were, they cant afford to pay Pujols 1/3 of their entire payroll. Then that contract they gave to Holliday was the height of idiocy.
  10. Just add a catchy tune and we've got a song.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) I agree. What are the bets for this year? 4 IP, 6 ER? Yeah, that Cleveland lineup...
  12. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) I do think, however, there is a chance our 2011 opening day DH ends the season with at least one hit against a left-handed pitcher. Dunn is a career .235 hitter against LHP (.817 OPS)
  13. I don't know if it's still there or what the rules were, but there used to be a rifle range as part of the IU student union.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) I always kind of assumed Crede was a good guy. I remember when the Sox were thinking about extending him and he wouldn't fire Boras like a few other Sox players did, people were giving him s*** about it. It makes sense though - not because of the debilitating back injury, which we couldn't know was coming - but because the guy wanted to be financially secure for the rest of his life, and he had the best agent in baseball to get him what he needed. I actually commend that. If you'll remember though...there was a period at the end of 2006 when the White Sox's medical advice to Crede was to go for back surgery, while Boras's team's advice was rehab. Joe tried the rehab and wound up having the surgery before the end of 2007, costing him most of that season. Listening to Boras's doctors might not have killed his career, but there was another reason why the Sox fans were mad at him.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) Well technically there is a pretty good chance of that happening again this year... Touché...
  16. If there's ketchup on the hot dog, then I'm clearly not first in line.
  17. Gotta admit...by being patient, the offers the Nuggets have gotten have gradually improved with time.
  18. Will always give him credit...hit the biggest regular season home run in White Sox history (IMO).
  19. (Btw, this is hilarious).
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) If you already have the hot dog, you aren't in line anymore. Have I paid yet?
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) the president is already president. the line starts behind him. If I get in line first for a hot dog, I'm first in line, the line doesn't start behind me. And I get a hot dog. Win-win.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Would you save up and buy this? http://www.grandstandsports.com/pages/20087.htm Yes.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) If they put him in the bullpen this year but want to give him the innings to continue to build him into a starter they would. Even with that Pt, they're not going to risk it. Pitchers who have made the big leagues just don't do that.
