  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) In the end, I don't care. I hope he dies a miserable, horrific, painful death. And that bloodlust gets no one anywhere.
  2. You really and truly think that setting a precedent for the future will somehow deter the next person who wants to do this?
  3. There has been another shutdown of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline due to a reasonably large leak. If you recall previous leaks from this pipeline, you may also recall which company is primarily responsible for the maintenance. This leak has temporarily shut down production in the area, removing several hundred thousand barrels of daily production and causing an oil price spike on trading markets.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) If this is the case why doesn't every team in baseball have a good to great bullpen? Because there's more to having a great bullpen than having someone to close games? I just checked the numbers. There were 29 players in MLB with 20 or more saves last year. Know who had the worst ERA out of all of them? Bobby Jenks. Oh sure, some teams shuffled a player into and out of the closers spot, and there were closers like Dotel and Capps who were traded to bolster a team's middle relief, but think about that...there were 28 other pitchers in MLB who had 20 or more saves...all of whom had better ERA's than Bobby Jenks.
  5. One of the other "Car of the year" awards, the North American Car of the year, was named today at the Detroit Auto show. Need I even bother identifying the car?
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) Everyone? Really? How is your life made worse if he spends life in jail?
  7. Clearly therefore, the answer is massive cuts in pensions, since those people are overpaid and greedy and lazy.
  8. To save you from looking, AEG is the $1.2 billion dollar, downtown-next-to-Staples center proposal.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) This reminds me a bit of the airbag debate, back when they were a new fangled thing in cars. Yes, its definitely OK and probably good to have a running undercurrent of questioning from the public. It tends to help dig up problems, and it keeps the providers more honest. But remember the idiots, back in the early 90's or so, who pointed out the dozen or so deaths in a few years' time from airbags? And then the panic-driven frenzy that air bags were deadly? Nevermind that for every person that died because of air bag impact, another thousand or so would be saved... there were people for YEARS, who always had them disabled because of that panic, and no amount of sense or logic would deter them. Some people feel the same way about seat belts. Vaccinations are demonstrably, obviously a good thing. But a little questioning and probing doesn't hurt either. Air bags did indeed get safer after all of that mess. You write that as though you think that there isn't a little questioning and probing being done as a matter of course, not only by the FDA but by independent scientists.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) They ran the ball a lot less last week against Green Bay. I think the ratio was like 40 to 20 or something along those lines. Forte ran the ball very well too. I don't know what Martz was really trying to do. At least I can give an excuse...most of those passes came on the last 2 drives, when the Packers pinned the Bears inside the 10 twice with a touchdown lead in the 4th quarter. Running the ball was only going to be a diversion and a use of time that the Bears really didn't have.
  11. Ah, snow day.
  12. QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) This, too, concerns me. Is this an official position?
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) I'm not sure I understand this. As far as I understand, every team receives revenue sharing money. Are you confusing revenue-sharing with luxury tax? Or have I misunderstood revenue sharing this entire time? Link Edit; that's how the previous agreement worked. The numbers are a little softer in the last CBA, but there is revenue weighting.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) oh, how nice, a "moderate" feel good idealogy. Kap takes what I said and distills it down into 8 words and a smiley. Beautiful.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) Who exactly is better off if this person is kept alive, or who exactly is NOT better off if this person is dead? So, the default, if you can't give a better reason, should be to kill?
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) So mentally ill he committed pre-meditated murder of multiple people in public. Yep, sure sounds like someone who should be locked up in a cell for the rest of his life and saved of his illness. GMAFB. It was directed at your comments, as well as others. You used it as an opportunity to s*** on her, and you know it. "I'm not saying, i'm just saying." Who exactly is better off if this person is dead?
  17. The weapon (specifically the high-capacity magazine) used in this shooting was banned under the now-expired Clinton-era Assault Weapons ban.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 07:30 PM) If it was based on some credible evidence sure. Simply making up s*** like "oh, well Palin is a polarizing figure so she's the cause of him snapping" shortly after the tragedy occurred is ridiculous. And yes, "more" killing. Provide me with one reason why this guy should live. He's the perfect example of why the death penalty should still be around. Taking revenge on the mentally ill makes you feel good? Since you said "on the first page" and I'm the one that pointed it out...I'm going to assume the quote there is a shot at me. I explicitly avoided saying she's the cause of him snapping. Instead, I said she's the person who made an off-color joke about to you right after your family member was in a car accident. There's a reason why you don't say things like that publicly; even if you're not encouraging it, if you make the joke and then it happens...you look like a jackass.
  19. The Iggles getting the 2nd chance there when they're helped by the Penalty...just a wrong rule. Can't be happy when a team gets a second chance and is helped by a penalty.
  20. General question...how is an attempted assassination of a political figure somehow an apolitical event?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) I hope he has his public trial and is put to death immediately. More killing.
  22. LeShawn McCoy was tackled onto DeSean Jackson's foot, Jackson limped off and is being treated on the sideline.
  23. I'm not sure that he isn't glossing over the big hits that the top guys took too much, but this Verducci chart is interesting.
  24. The rants about the government controlling his mind through grammar appear similar to the rants of a particular conspiracy theorist.
