  1. That's what the Nerds said.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) IMO the Ranges would regret starting him. His highest innings total in his career was 127 innings. There is no way he is ready for 180-200 innings this year. Which is why some of us look at Sale and want him to start at least for a time...since his career innings high is already 160+ innings, which he's reached 2 years in a row (with the notable exception of them not being in the major leagues).
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) It has more to do with their owner being f***ing cheap than anything. Yeah the guy's rich but be honest, the Twins in a good year still don't compete with a team from Chicago in total revenue.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Sale needs to be in the bullpen. It didn't hurt Buehrle in 2000. This logic is just silly. Not only are they not even close to the same type of pitcher, but their backgrounds are also totally different. The only reason why you'd compare those two is that they're left-handed. It makes as much sense for me to say "Sale needs to be in the rotation, they put McCarthy in the bullpen in 2006 and it did hurt him".
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Maybe she wasn't the target, maybe the judge was. According to police statements posted earlier in this thread, this is not true. The Judge was at Mass in the area and chose to drop by the Congresswoman's event to say hi. The Judge was only there by accident.
  6. Well, the Colts need to get healthy, get rested, and perhaps try to upgrade their team's depth through FA in the offseason. This would be a totally different game with Collie or Clark.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) Exactly. Now there are rumors the gunman may not have acted alone, lets find those bastards. He's not saying anything, invoking his 5th amendment right. The Police are searching for a person of interest, a white male in his 50's. A few more details from the sheriff's press conference while some of us are watching sports...the Judge had just stopped by casually. The army today also stated that he had applied for the army but was rejected, and would not say why citing privacy law.
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Why is running into the kicker even a penalty? It's because of the motion that the punter has to do. He's basically sticking his leg out forwards and jumping. If you hit the guy while he's in that motion, it's 50/50 whether he can retain his footing. If he comes down wrongly, he's so unprotected that it's 50/50 that he'll wind up hurt, possibly seriously. Stick your foot straight forwards then try jumping up and down. Then imagine someone shoving your shoulder slightly when you do it.
  9. The Washington Post and the AP are reporting that the handgun was purchased legally on Nov. 30th at a Sportsmen's Warehouse in Tucson.
  10. The House has decided to delay its schedule for the week (only scheduled vote was the Health Care repeal vote). That's the correct move, at least until things settle down.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Good win tonight. But it makes the two bad losses to the Nets and Sixers sting more. Maybe they grew up a bit with those 2 losses.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) I'm kicking onside here if I'm the Colts. I think you and I had the same thought but expressed it differently..."giving the Jets the ball back is stupid".
  13. Ugh, you get the ball inside the 20 with less than 5 minutes left, down 4 points, you run the ball on 3rd down, and you're not going for it on 4th down? After the Jets ran a 10 minute drive to take the lead a little bit beforehand?
  14. Good lord, Rose recovers the ball with :04 on the shot clock out beyond the 3 point arc, and gets an easy layup before the clock buzzes.
  15. A "Suspicious package" has been found at the Congresswoman's office.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) How can you explain that all of the 100k fish that died were the same species? Poisoning of the spawning area? single-species fish kills are actually quite common. Less common are the multi-species fish kills like that huge one we saw after the oil spill. After briefly checking, there are lots of potential reasons why it might hit only one species. A particular type of infection could go only after one species. There could just be one dominant species in that area. That species of fish might have a particular feeding pattern, such that it was the only species exposed to in a system (i.e. it's a bottom-feeder in an area where the bottom became anoxic, or acidic, or otherwise toxic). That species could be the one that has gotten overpopulated, such that everything else is already dead, but everything else died off gradually.
  17. Point?
  18. Hartley has had to kick field goals of 26, 22, and 21 yards today. That's the game if the Saints can't win this. 3 times stopped inside the 10.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Well, this level execution we're seeing right now is ridiculous. You cannot going to make throws like this every game. Some of these throws are easy though. The Throw to Williams was spot on, but it was complete because Williams had the defense beat. The 2 TD's to the TE were wide open throws.
  20. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) i'm not saying she encouraged it, i'm not saying he did it because of political motivations, and it's not just Sarah Palin, but the fearmongering that goes on and the calls to action using gun imagery, etc eventually creates an environment in which these things will happen. I'd say it differently. I'd say that if a political figure going to use gun imagery in a campaign against a person, and then at some point that person gets shot...some people will try to blame her regardless of whether or not she's at fault (and those people should be criticized)...while others will just think she looks like a complete jackass. At this point, I'm not going to go any farther than thinking she looks like a complete jackass...Like a person making a totally inappropriate joke about someone who really got hurt. I think you have to be really careful about how you try to assign blame for words in these cases, because it's so hard to really interpret the thoughts of a person who would do something like this.
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) this is what happens when you encourage an atmosphere of radical, irrational fear and hatred and use ridiculous rhetoric like Sarah Palin does. Unbelievable. It was just a matter of time I guess. Seriously sir, I would not go that far.
  22. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) I'm not sure the Sox are done, I'm sure KW is monitoring the packages of players received in the Greinke/Garza trades to see what Floyd and Danks would bring if the market is at a high value right now. Trouble is...trading either of them is almost by definition taking chips off the table for another game, rather than going all-in. Neither of those trades brought back guys who will make the team trading them significantly better this season.
  23. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) With all due respect, everything that I have ever read says JR believes it is a total lack of respect to take a case to an arbitration hearing as he has always said the Sox have always offered above market contracts. However, I do not have stats as to which Sox players recently have made it to an arb hearing. It will be something to watch and if I'm wrong I will stand corrected. None have gone to arbitration since 2001, and the Sox don't like arbitration hearings. I just don't think that they interpret it as an "act of war" or slap in the face or whatever metaphor you want to use. I'm just as confident as you that they'll have everyone wrapped up, because they will make fair offers rather than go through the arb scenario.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) I think that was Balta's way of saying that he thinks Philly is going to win. Either that or I just didn't know all the scenarios, but yeah, let's go with your way.
