  1. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) Moderate success? lol wut. The 4 candidates she gave the most support (O'Donnell, Angel, Fiorina, and Miller) all took what should have been a lock and lost. Hell Miller was in her own state! Every one of them won their Republican Primary though.
  2. Fun game that Bingo...until someone loses an I!
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) either due to bad drafting or just flat out bad luck. And it's worth noting here...even if you throw all the other things in together, the scouting, the going-over-slot, the high or low draft picks, the system development...there is a huge, huge part being played by luck. A lot of the teams we think of as having great systems now didn't have great systems 5 years ago, or if they did, they managed to keep them up in part because they lost extra guys to FA and consequently were helped out with extra picks.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) He’s clearly getting progressively healthier as the year goes on. Once he gets in synch with the rest of the team, he’s a guy who can contribute in a major way. I don't know about a "major way" or not...especially on offense, but supposedly he was quite effective on defense in that run in the 2nd quarter last night.
  5. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 09:12 AM) Eh... but can a Marlins fan really complain? And they've also had to endure 2 separate complete selloffs/team dismantlings, of the sort that we haven't seen in Chicago baseball in more than 20 years.
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Even though Peavy ahead of schedule, KW is not counting on him being ready come April. I read that as saying "I expect Jake Peavy to pick up 7 wins in April, and I'm going to trade at least 1 starting pitcher this offseason".
  7. Apparently the Bravos plan on moving Martin Prado to LF.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Ronnie Brewer made me want to murder a kitten. And I f***ing love kittens. Brewer was +16 on the night.
  9. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) where is he at in the farm system?? closing and succeeding for an AFL team sounds like he must be a pretty good prospect. Does he figure to be in the bullpen anytime soon?? After watching Santos and later in the year Infante ive grown very fond of watching white sox relievers. Carter is behind the pace you'd expect for a really good prospect. He started off as a starter, but hung up for a year and a half in high-A ball in 2008 and 2009. Last year, he was moved to the bullpen pretty early in the season, put up a 3.92 ERA in Birmingham which isn't good, but his overall peripherals weren't bad. He doesn't seem to give up a ton of hits, but the 22 walks in 46 innings is the real long-term issue. He'll be 25 this year, so if he made it to the big leagues he'd be on an "Ok" schedule. He could be a middle relief/long relief option this year, but I wouldn't count on him at all this year.
  10. Basketball players are scary and tall.
  11. To answer the question in a different way...yes, I think if we trade a starter, Chris Young might make an ideal 6th starter option.

  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) but where did i say i wanted that? your logic is as follows: Known variables: Joe likes the White Sox The Whites are a baseball team Balta conclusion: Joe likes baseball teams. Joe must also be a Twins fan Where did I assume you wanted it? The guys who wrote this plan want a 23% top tier tax rate. That's the kind of tax increase you need if you want to cut the top tier that much.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) (and i think there are means to detect explosives that don't require some dude in a backroom staring at naked people all day or forcing people to be groped, which, at the end of the day, still doesn't prevent the most determined of terrorists) Well, no there aren't...but even if there were...are YOU going to want your taxes going up to pay for it?
  15. I dunno, I get the feeling we're seeing a lot more triple-posts where people don't see what's going on in other threads right now.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) So....you are agreeing with me then? I can't make myself disagree.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) Which isn't going to happen. Don't forget...the way this Deficit commission law is written...it's an up or down vote. If it gets 14 votes out of the 18 commissioners, it goes to Congress for an up or down vote and Congress cannot amend the package. If it can't get 14 votes, it goes the way of the Iraq Study Group and we never hear about it again.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) now you're just making stuff up The top tier tax rate drops from 35% to 23% under the plan that they wrote.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) I agree. The only thing against signing Manny would be Quentin being stuck in RF again. Would be great if we could trade Quentin, while signing Manny. Salaries would offset. And you imagine replacing Quentin for Manny F'ing Ramirez and adding NOTHING to the payroll? I'd squeal with joy. The beauty of your suggestion? If I fire back "But what are the odds that Ramirez doesn't get hurt next year"...you immediately can go grab a sign that says "Fail".
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) Seriously though, absent full on cavity searches, how are you ever going to prevent that? How will you react when the guy with a colon loaded with HMX explodes and takes out 250 people? Serious question.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Umm, Alexei is a superior player to Infante. Infante is a guy that the Braves are selling incredibly high. He is a utility guy. Prior to the Cabrera deal...the response you'd have gotten might be "well, the Marlins scouts also keep nailing things, so they must really believe in the Infante that the Braves got last year".
  22. Zacchaeus was a wee little man. He couldn't match up with that guy.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) WHo come back with Muslim names, long beards and other things that could also be profiled. You know what's impossible to do? Shave.
  24. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) If Alexei was under team control for only one more year, than maybe. He's only under team control for 2. Point is...the Sox couldn't really do anything along the lines of matching this offer.
  25. Xzibit and Snoop Dogg could play better than that kid.
