Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Is dumped really the proper terminology? Wasn't he traded essentially for Max Scherzer? Scherzer being the power pitcher (whose arm might explode) that was one of the best pitchers coming out the year he was drafted in the 1st round? I do agree that the Tigers did pick him up for very little via the Rays though. Yes, he was traded for Scherzer, and yes, that was a good deal for the Tigers. That was prior to his 2010 season. That was prior to him struggling for the first 2/3 of 2010. That was when he was 2 years away from Free Agency instead of 1. That was when his total salary was $4.6 million, not $8.3 million as it is next year. And that was before yet another team gave up on him mid-season. He was cheaper, under control for longer, and coming off a better year at the time that deal was made. So yeah, the D-backs gave up more for him. If they hadn't managed to turn Jackson into a talented youngster, would you doubt that the D-Backs would want to take that deal back? Yeah, I'd call that a salary dump style deal if the Sox got rid of him now. I wouldn't have traded a Daniel Hudson for him in July, and now that I can't even say "but he's helping in a pennant race" there's no way I'd give up a decent pitching prospect for him today.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Gavin Floyd especially Like in 2008 where he was the only guy pitching reliably well down the stretch.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Downtown Dallas is 20 miles away from Arlington in case anyone is going to see any postseason games at The Ballpark. Everyone should take a moment to mess with Texas while they are there.

QUOTE (DOWNTOWN PANTHER @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Will Leesman be apart of that group that is up there? I think anyone on the AFL list is a good potential candidate for starting in the upper levels of our org next year, if they perform well this offseason.

QUOTE (striker @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Agreed. If I'm trading Floyd or Danks I'm getting a #3 or #4 hitter that I have control of for 2-3 years. Doesn't that sound like Matt Kemp?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) Obvious choice for "Animal you would think is fake" if you never heard of it before. Perhaps we just need to wait another 20 years for them to go through endangered and perhaps extinct. Then we can consider it fake.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) I think the Bears needs to develop players at key positions and Angelo isnt the guy to do it. The Bears as they stand right now cannot win the Super Bowl. They have above avg and top notch players at a few positions with a great fall off in depth. I think there are some players you can unload when this season falls apart in about 4 games that can possibly net some real talent for the O-line and possibly the defense. We need to start building an offensive line from the draft, its clear the piece by piece strategy does not work. Obviously it's hard to disagree with you on the O-line draft issue. Here's the first counterpoint though...if they trade off those above average players for draft picks, they're not getting high draft picks for them. You're not getting a first round pick for Peppers if you try to deal him right now, even though he's giving the team better than first round production. Ditto Urlacher. Probably ditto Cutler. Draft picks are to the NFL what the Baseball America top 20 is to MLB; they're the guys that everyone wants but it's really hard to build a team solely based on stockpiling them, because they're always a few years away and they have a 50/50 bust rate. Oh, and in 4 games if the Bears season is over, it's too late; the NFL trade deadline is the 19th. The worst the Bears can possibly be at the trade deadline is 3-3, and that's if they lose to both the Panthers and the Seahawks.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) Gavin Floyd is an interesting name. How many more years is he under White Sox control? I also wonder if Edwin Jackson may be on the block. He did pitch well, but he's a Boras guy with 1 year left on his deal. Isn't this the ideal time to move him while his value is boosted? Gavin is under the Sox's control through the end of 2013 if they pick up a team option. Edwin Jackson could be on the block...but his value is not "boosted" even by a good end of the season. He's a guy who has been dumped by 3 teams in the space of 2 years, who is 1 year away from Free Agency and a Boras guy. He can't be expected to help a team long-term, he's already not cheap, and his pitching record the last 2 years is at best described as inconsistent. Put it this way...why do you want to be the team picking up a guy that 4 teams dumped in 2 years? They might try to trade Jackson, but they're not getting anything of serious use for him. It's a salary dump.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) It sucks the Bears have some really good players at a few positions because this team really needs to cut ties with Angelo and start trading for draft picks. Trading players for draft picks? Do you really think that's a good team-building strategy? That's what a team like the Bills should be doing...they've been a disaster for a decade.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) Good call, especially since the Royals have previously said Kila is unavailable and Hosmer is probably untouchable for anything other than a blockbuster offer. The Royals spent this season saying that they weren't taking offers on Butler, but that was before they started legitimately giving Kila at bats and while Hosmer was still proving to people that he was back.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) And they now have 8 picks in the first 4 rounds of next years draft.... 2 of which they will trade for 2012 picks. Maybe more, given the lockout situation.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
A guy that I think fits Kenny's M.O. very well and might be, at least under the radar, on the trade block...Billy Butler from the Royals. KW knows the Royals well, he's a guy who's beaten us before, he isn't hugely expensive, he has some limitations that would keep him from being a big cost guy, he tentatively fills one of those 1b/DH roles with a guy who should give around an .850 OPS, and he's blocking 2 of the Royals young guys (Kila Ka'aihue and Eric Hosmer, who has a shot to arrive this year).

QUOTE (striker @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Carlos Beltran anyone? If you get the Mets to eat alot of his salary and he's healthy then I'd take him. Who knows what direction their new GM wants to go. I'd totally consider taking a gamble on him...if the Mets were willing to eat about 60% of his salary this year and the Sox didn't give up anyone of value. Say I'd trade Carlos Torres for Beltran and $11+ million. The problem is...the Mets really are better off gambling on Beltran turning it back around and staying healthy this year than they are dealing him. They don't exactly have a young stud being blocked by Beltran where they'd need to dump him.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) Campaign finance I'll give you as a rival for the hyperbole and extremism. The others, not in the same ballpark, IMO. At least you see that I wasn't being hyperbolic when I said I didn't think yours was anywhere near the top.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) I'll laugh if Hudson ends up like all the other great cheap prospects of the Sox such as Reed and McCarthy. I've never seen a guy so overvalued in my life. I get the feeling that people would take "6 cheap years of Dan Hudson" over 2 years of Doc Halladay because he was cheaper. Did this post just compare Edwin Jackson with Roy Halladay?

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) And for those reasons Danks would fetch a s***load more than Floyd. If you can recognize that, it is obvious to the rest of MLB as well. D1 has a couple things going for him that aren't worth noting there. First...generally better numbers. 2nd...pitches with his left hand. Both of those make him reasonable as a trade option. The reason the Sox might actually do it though is his FA status.
