  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) WTF just happened? THat had to be some sort of busted Hit and RUn.
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Anyone who still says Walk is a "lift and pull" coach hasn't watched this season at all. Are you kidding? did you see the 2 balls quentin and Konerko hit yesterday? They lifted and pulled those. Like 850 feet between them.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) If the AFL counts as innings towards that total, the Cape Cod league should too. After his sophomore year he threw 55 innings at the Cape. That drastically changes your math. Good point, I totally missed those, thanks.
  4. Konerko goes from 2 bad at bats to lining a ball to right center.
  5. Pierre making up for it a bit. 2-0 Sox on a Pierre RBI basehit up the middle.
  6. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) grand slam barlett. 6-6 Oh that's just...awesome.
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) He's at 113.1 IP between college and the minors right now. Let's say he throws 15 innings the rest of the year. That puts him just short of 130 innings. That's a little on the low end for a full season of minor league starts. The college season starts in February so his innings are over a longer period of time too. By using him as a reliever this year, the inning workload pretty much gets offset. If the Sox want him to compete for a job in the spring, they'll have to get him used to starting again before then. I think the AFL is a good place for him. The thing that makes me the most uncomfortable about his innings is that prior to this season, his innings high (last year) was 89 innings. If he throws 15 innings the rest of the year, that's 130ish innings...which is an increase of 40 innings over his innings total from 2009. In general, the "safe innings increase Verducci rule" is 25 innings/season, so 40 is pushing it. 3 starts in the AFL and now we're talking about 55+ innings increase over 2009.
  8. Pierre's definitely slower than 2003, but he's still, at least for now, fast enough to be effective. I have no problem if he's stealing at the right time and sneaking in around the tag; as long as he's still somewhere close to that 75% clip. Today, at least one of his attempts was just plain stupidly timed; stealing 3rd with a guy up batting lefty against a guy with a good fastball and 0 outs? That breaks like every single rule ever written.
  9. Compared to 2003? Absolutely.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) That's not how it was originally phrased when his signing went down. "After spending this summer as a reliever, he'll work in the Arizona Fall League as a starter and get the opportunity to make Chicago's rotation in spring training next year." He'll have MLB experience. You can't say definitively that he won't make it. The Sox have the rest of this season as a reliever and the AFL and spring training as a starter to evaluate him. I'd be surprised if he was on the opening day rotation, but we have so little to evaluate him on currently. Honestly...I'll really be surprised if he does a lot of AFL work this year...he's already thrown a lot of innings, I'm not quite sure how that's a good idea.
  11. Back to back 2 out walks is not a good thing.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) I think you meant Damon? Actually I mean Peralta, who's hitting after him in the order. Peralta's went farther than Damon's. I just misremembered who was up.
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Kotsay got a hit!! He's getting one weak hit a day now. Guess that's better than nothing.
  14. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) By the descriptions on yahoo...looks like Freddy is lucky Comerica is a big ballpark. Anyone see those flyouts? That one by boesch leaves several ballparks.
  15. Torn Pectoral Muscle for Elvis Dumervil, out approximately 4 months.
  16. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) Any realistic chance he can even be productive at this point?? He has been off for how long now? He hasn't played since May, 2009. I think there's probably as good of a chance of him putting up a >.800 OPS the last 1.5 months of the season as there is of Kotsay doing so.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) I wonder if they'd consider giving Sale a shot in the rotation if Garcia leaves and Peavy has a setback. Sale isn't going to jump to starting in the big leagues without at least some time starting in the minors.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) I can't stand media coverage of the Bears in general. Always so endlessly positive during camp (deserved or not), and even when they suck during the regular season, you have some real lapdogs in this town for that franchise. Really, how man seasons in the past few decades have they actually gone all "Detroit Lions" and legitimately sucked?
