The Republican Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) That's pretty scary, actually. I dunno...I have to wonder whether the fact that the fact that it's being asked at all skews the result. Like, pretend I'm Kap for a minute except i haven't watched the news for 6 months because basilmarceaux.com told me not to, and I get a polling call asking whether I think Obama was born in the United States. I have no opinion on the matter, but I assume that there's a reason why the pollster's asking and I hate Obama, so I say "no he wasn't" because obviously that's why the Pollster would ask.

So...should I try to cross over to the Republican primary today to vote for BasilMarceaux.com?

Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) You don't like having two of the exact same players (except one can't hit) on the roster? And the one that can't hit also can't play any position other than 1b.

Carlos Delgado
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) he wants guaranteed playing time too. I'm not sure how you guarantee playing time to a guy who might not be able to swing a bat any more.

Music Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) If anyone remembers from the top bands poll thread, my favorite band of all-time is Soundgarden, and I'm one of the lucky 1,400 who will be seeing them at the Vic tonight! I'm so psyched, it's ridiculous. Lately I've been listening to more of the non-single stuff from Superunknown and remembering how solid it was.

Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) I think if Kenny finds a way to get a left handed bat, Kotsay will be the player to go. Until Kenny finds that, we're stuck with Kotsay. Basically, Kenny needs to hire a "trainer" and have him work with this "Teahen" guy until he can say "he is healed".

Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) As for the lineup today, I told you guys Monday that it was a lock Kotsay would start all 4 of these games, this shouldn't be a surprise. He's such a stud against right handed pitching after all. He has hits this series. Hits! Plural!

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Well what are proponents going to argue? The only arguement they have is based on opinion. They have no facts. I feel like they could have made more of a legal "this is not the case under the law" argument if they'd wanted to. I'm not sure they really tried.

Bill James is going to appear on the Simpsons this season. Does that mean that Sabermetrics have gone from being the new thing to being tired and old?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) "I didn't know he threw that hard" Isn't that something the manager should probably know? Bah, there's a difference between knowing that a guy throws 97 and seeing it in person. That said...the reason he should know it is that we faced Jackson several times in Detroit last year.

O. Guillen loves him some Kotsay, so removal is out of the equation
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) Viciedo 3B it looks like. Vizquel will finally get a day off. Not if the lineup in the gamethread is to be believed.

Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
- Adam Dunn put on waivers...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:14 AM) Not exactly. If a player is on the 40 man roster, he has to clear waivers in order to be traded, so Washington would be even more limited in who they could get back from the Sox. Which means...no Viciedo, no Jackson.- White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) How serious are they still on Manny? Does Kenny expect to pick him up? It seems like he does. Did they ever pursue Hawpe? Would they still put in a claim on him? They were serious enough on Manny that they felt like they took a real shot at it. I'm not sure that they still are...I think a lot of it depends on the Dodgers and whether they decide that they're sellers at some point. If I know KW, there's not a person he didn't put in a call on. But remember...the Rockies still think they're in the race as well.- Carlos Delgado
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Rosenthal saying we are interested in Delgado. Why?! Because even if he's only operating on 1 hip, he's still not worse than Kotsay.- Waiver Wire Thread
QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) I have a hard time believing that Kenny wouldn't claim him. Ditto. I have trouble believing that report.- What set Ozzie off this time?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) Yet, at the same time, the Hispanic kids have huge advantages that no one else in the world has. They aren't subject the draft They can negotiate with all of the teams in MLB, instead of just the team they are drafted by They don't have to play years in their local professional league before being able to be a free agent, or convincing their team to post them for bids as a free agent They can start signing at 16 years old You think that signing with an MLB team for a few hundred thousand dollars at age 16 is an advantage?- B. Jenks.
I don't think his fastball velocity and ability to throw the curve ball are dictated by the calendar. If he's throwing a 96-97 mph fastball with late movement for strikes and following it up with a curveball from the same arm motion, he'll be successful. If he's down at 93, can't throw strikes, and doesn't want to throw the curveball, he might as well pitch in garbage time.- G. Walker: Does he now get credit?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:25 AM) It's difficult for me to give Walker credit. We see Coop take on pitchers that have failed elsewhere and succeed here. We don't really see that with our hitters. And at the end of the day our offense is around middle of the pack. And with Mark Kotsay as the DH and Juan Pierre as the leadoff hitter, this team wasn't going to be better than 5th even if everything had gone well. Walker seems to deserve credit for: Rios's season, even if he's had some iffy months, Konerko's season, Alexei's last couple months, perhaps some of Vizquel, perhaps some of Viciedo, Beckham's turnaround, Jones being effective against LHP, etc. OTOH, he can get some criticism for; how long beckham struggled, how long Quentin struggled (although I'll bet there was some injury in there), the slow starts from Pierre and Ramirez, and Pierzynski's godawful season. Like any hitting coach it's a mixed bag. Overall I think they've come in better than I'd have expected if you told me how Quentin was going to struggle.- AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) At least he admitted it: ESPN At least his hindsight is good. That counts for something.- Game Thread: White Sox (61-46) @ Detroit (53-54) 12:05 CDT
Bring it Freddy.- O. Guillen loves him some Kotsay, so removal is out of the equation
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) I find it funny he said this, yet ripped Nick Swisher when he was here for almost the same thing. (clubhouse stuff didn't come out till after he was traded and I still don't even buy all of that) You wanna talk about "luck" Ozzie? Swisher had the worst luck in a season that I've ever seen a white sox hitter have in quite some time, yet you had no trouble keeping it real with him sucking. No matter what BABIP says, I don't buy that Swisher was unlucky in 2008, and I don't buy that Kotsay is unlucky now. Weak popups to the 2b and weak groundouts to the 2b sometimes don't just happen by chance. A guy can have a terrible approach at the plate, be out of shape or old, and get the exact same results of a low BABIP. Swisher stank in 2008 and it wasn't bad luck that he kept popping out, and Kotsay isn't unlucky to keep grounding out. - Adam Dunn put on waivers...
