  1. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) OMIGOSH!! DO NOT lurk her page for her number! I have had someone do that to me before and he's now one of my "blocked listers" lol ..Just wait ..you don't wanna seem too into her, or she will get bored with you. If you know for sure that you'll be seeing her again, just be patient and act cool about it. (note to self...stop trying to break into Bren's facebook page for her phone #...)
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) I mean, it must be something like that. I was trying to take lineups and coaching moves into consideration but I couldn't really think of much that would swing the odds that far. It's gotta be something psychological, which is funny cuz as stat-heads, we reaaaaaally hate confounds like that. It could also be that teams tend to win the game where they throw their better pitcher out against the other team's worse pitcher.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) I think this organization would love to play Dayan at 3B. Much more valuable. I don't think they would have moved him from 3b to 1b if they thought his defense would develop adequately there.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) General thought around here is that Paulie is leaving and Dayan is your new 1B. Really, I want PK14 to be offered something like 3/$21-$24-ish to stay on and at least add another warm body to the 1b/DH spot next year.
  5. Stats like that suggest to me that there is a serious emotional component involved...one team is pissed that they lost the first game so they refocus for the 2nd game to avoid the sweep, while the other team becomes complacent for the 2nd game.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) It's impossible to know how Konerko will do the rest of the year simply because there's no real pattern to his struggles and successes throughout the past 5 years. Really, yeah there has been...if he's been close to 100%, he's produced. In 2003, he stank most of the year and he was coming off of a broken foot. In 2008 he stank for a part of the year and he was dealing with, what was it, that thumb injury?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) It's difficult to see his body shape because his uniform has always been so incredibly baggy. There's a reason for this.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Plus, Tank might learn a thing or two from Manny!! "And if you want to make sure that you pass the tests, you need to be completely off your cycle by January 15th, otherwise your levels will still be off by the time training camp opens."
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) He's also a 38 year old malcontent whose had everything come easily to him because he is so incredibly talented. I doubt he puts in the time to put himself into game shape like Jim Thome does. I don't really put much into the steroids thing. That may be a contributing factor, but let's not act as though this would be that abnormal for a player his age who had never touched steroids. Honestly, everything I've heard about ManRam suggests that his workouts are crazy (he supposedly got some of his supply through a gym right down the street from me when I was in Pasadena) which is entirely consistent with him being a juicer; you can pull off some crazy workouts. I think he used to get in great shape because the roids allowed him to do workouts that mere mortals couldn't do.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) In a related story, 29 claims have been made by now... I thought about it for a moment and realized...you know...I bet the Pirates would be happy to pay $3 million to Dunn to get those 2 draft picks.
  11. Does she have a phone number on her facebook page?
  12. There is a bright side to an injury setback...if Manny were to return this weekend and the Dodgers reeled off 4-5 wins in a row, they might decide they were close enough to run with it. If Manny's back on August 20th, it's possible the Dodgers could finally consider themselves to be out of it by then and might be more willing to deal.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) I think he is. He was pulled out of the middle of a game at one point after awkwardly rounding 2nd base I believe. I really don't believe this crap B&B were saying about him not being hurt. I do believe we would be one of the teams he would like to play for. He's likely a long-time steroid abuser who's now off the juice. A pulled muscle for him should be as common as waking up in the morning for us or the towel drill for a Cubs pitcher.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) Since when is defense a high priority on Kenny's list. This season?
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) That place is a straight up s*** hole. Went to a game there in late May and it's easily the worst stadium experience I've ever had. Ever been to Wrigley?
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) But is that one hit in game 1 enough for Ozzie to keep him here? Dude, he flew out to the warning track. The WARNING TRACK. That earns him a week.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) And what is the sample size of that? A handful of games? Of course it's a handful of games, but it's an entirely reasonable expectation. If you want a broader look, let's go to MB's career numbers. Mark's pitched on 3 days rest 6 times in his career and his numbers are good in them...but if you're going to talk about sample size, those games have to be tossed out because 6 games in 10+ years isn't a lot. Here's his career marks on: Normal rest: 1.36 WHIP, 4.34 ERA 5 days rest: 1.18 WHIP, 3.22 ERA 6 days rest: 1.12 WHIP, 3.41 ERA Also going to give you OPS against him, and include the 3 days rest here because it makes a nice trendline: 3 days: .796 4 days: .770 5 days: .695 6 days: .676
  18. From the inside rumors, it sounds like there is a strong possibility that a Federal court will overturn California's Proposition 8 today (although it's of course going to be appealed upwards since it's in Federal court). The pro-h8 vote side has already filed a preliminary motion for a stay pending appeal, which is what they'd do if they were expecting a loss.
  19. "energy" bill put on hold until at least after the recess in the Senate. With this being an election season such that both sides will be in full campaign mod, it may well be completely dead. This post, of course, is entirely to hammer at NSS, who insisted we would pass an energy bill this year.
  20. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) How much salary did the Rangers take on in total? They gave up a little bit extra in talent in a lot of their deals to get the other team to send along cash. As always on these, TIFWIW, there's probably hidden financial clauses we don't know about.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) For CrackBerry users, Blackberry is announcing the new Blackberry Torch today based on their new OS. Link
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) Isn't that the point of amendments? I've never argued that shouldn't be the case. The concept of a "living constitution" seems to be one of the greatest conservative enemies out there.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) To this point, MLB itself has been financially bailing out the Texas Rangers all season. I'm sure Selig loved seeing the Rangers add payroll last month... I'll bet Selig is quite happy about it. That team is going to get playoff ticket revenue at this point, and they've bumped their attendance up by about 900 fans/game over last year. They've gotten a lot of press and the moves they've made have probably increased their franchise's value. Right now, they'd get a matchup with the Yankees in the first round of the postseason. And they get to throw Cliff Lee out 2 times, on their schedule, against the Yanks.
  24. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) Agreed, AJ only knows as much as the Phillies source, and Phillies source had Dunn going to White Sox, like half the baseball world out there did. Which means that this Phillies source is just as susceptible to spin from other front offices as anyone else is...and just about every front office uses a "our revenue sucks!" spin to try to lull other teams into sleeping while they strike. KW is a master at it.
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) And today is exactly why I wanted to see Buehrle or Jackson on 4-days rest vs. Orioles than see Torres pitch vs. Detroit..... Ugh. Worth noting...every pitcher currently in our rotation has an ERA a run higher on "normal" rest than they do on 5 days rest. Mark's ERA on "normal" rest is 5.47, it's 3.5 on 1 day extra rest, and it's 2.48 on 6 days+ rest. There's no reason to believe that Buehrle wouldn't have been shellacked by the Orioles, costing us a winnable game, on short rest.
