Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:31 AM) Come on, Balta. Hollywood Squares. Usually though, a sarcastic reply tends to serve some purpose, and I'm not seeing how I'm made to look bad by saying it was her office putting out a press release rather than the U.S. marshalls office.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) With Morneaus' injury I would think that you really can't count on him being there any longer. Not saying he's done, but he could come and go at any time it sounds like. If he's still experiencing concussion symptoms at this point, then basically...you can't expect him back this season. He might make it back in mid/late September, but even that might be risky for him.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) You say this as if most of the people who want the borders enforced have NOT acknowledged that there is a need for a viable guest worker program, when in fact, we have. Time and time again it has been agreed that there needs to be a working guest worker program. So quit with these arguments where you make stuff up and everythign is all or nothing. It is exhausting. You argue like a 10 year old saying the same s*** over and over and changing the questions a little bit when you get answers you don't like. Are you perhaps a union negotiator? GMAFB. If the hard-line Republicans had any interest in any sort of guest worker plan it would have been done under GWB.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) To be fair, the citizenship clause in the 14th amendment was implemented for a completely different purpose than what it is used for today. So, you're saying that the Constitution should be viewed as flexible, that when we try to apply it to a modern society distinct from that in which it was written, we should go into it with an open mind rather than rigidly focusing on the text?

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) But apparently it's something to do with revenues now from drops in ticket prices. It's believable...but that's not the only revenue stream. The Sox have, as far as I can tell, already weathered the big drop in ad sales, I think other teams are probably similar. Teams still increased total salary expenditures last offseason, even if it was only a 1.8% jump.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) I'd have to imagine the Sox are going to end up way up from last season? Should have really good crowds for a lot of our remaining home games, especially with the Yanks, Red Sox, and Twins on the schedule. The Sox are currently one of the teams down from last season. Attendance flat out sucked the first 2 months of the season. This pennant chase should rock it.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Only team drawing decent crowds are New York and Philadelphia or when Strasburg is on the mound. Attendance is down across the board. Look it up. I have looked it up. Yes, average attendance is slightly down...because of big drops in NYM and Houston and cleveland. There are, by my count, 14 teams with attendance up this year, and 16 teams with attendance down.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) You just answered the question. So if the Sox are willing to pay his entire contract, why did they not offer to do it before the deadline? Its really not KWs style to mess around with lowball offers, especially with the deadline rapidly approaching. The only way they claim him is if they have something worked out with LA in which LA would guarantee they wouldn't just award him the contract and have a deal worked out. The question was whether or not the Dodgers were going to sell at all or not. If the Dodgers were wanting to Shed Salary, the Sox would have helped them out. If the Dodgers wanted to add prospects, the Sox weren't going to do that and absorb a salary hit. The Dodgers made their choice. They held Manny and added $7 million or so in salary with the guys they added, despite multiple reports of insane financial issues in LAD due to the McCourt divorce. The dodgers aren't selling for money, and the Sox aren't dumping Viciedo for a 1.5 month rental on the DL and off the juice.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) It's all about money.....trust me. Look around, many, many empty stadiums. You say that as though the empty stadiums in places like Pittsburgh, KC, Cleveland, Florida, Oakland, and Toronto are anything new.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Holy s***. I think 75% of individual posts at Soxtalk are complaining about Mark Kotsay. We get this way when the team is making an obvious mistake.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) The Yankees took on a bunch of salary The Dodgers took on a ton, the braves took on some, the White Sox took on some, the Phillies took on half of Oswalt's contract, the Cardinals took on Westbrook's salary, the Padres took on Ludwick's, about 5 teams wanted to add Dunn's contract.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) Maybe we can just face LHP the rest of the season?? Ozzie's awful love for Kotsay was getting a lot of play on B&B today. Might as well activate Teahen, promote Sale, DFA Kotsay, and send down Torres. We'd be such a better team. This is the right series of moves.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) I agree. If teams have $6-7 million to spend on a loose cannon, despite his talent, for a third of the season they have a lot of explaining to do. If the Sox were willing to pay that much they wouldn't have screwed around with their lowball offer. Manny can hit, but there's some question marks. Attitude, health, both getting healthy and staying healthy, and while he's been good since his PED bust, he's certainly not what he was. I can't see the White Sox pay a guy that kind of money for 50 games to DH when they wouldn't give others that for an entire season. Manny has good numbers in limited ABs but certainly not eye popping. THe Sox lowball offer was to get the Dodgers talking and see if there was anything there. If the Dodgers had fired back with "we'll give you him for nothing if you take on the full salary", I think he'd be on the Sox right now. Instead, the Dodgers asked for Viciedo.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) No teams took on monster salaries. The baseball sources I have with the Phillies say it's across the league. $6 million is NOT a monster salary. Yes, lots of teams have financial restrictions. A lot of those same teams took on salary at the deadline (Dodgers, Rangers, Phillies, White Sox, Yankees, etc.). How many times does KW cry poor right before adding salary? If you think a $6 million salary is the difference between winning a pennant and missing the playoffs, you'll pick that guy up in a second. The added ticket sales will cover it easily.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Bat = Manny. At least this is how we all see it. For 1.5 months in a pennant race, that's how any team needing a bat (and even better, a bat that can be stuck at corner OF) will look at it.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Kotsay got limited playing time in the A's series. This must be Ozzie's way of making it up to him. He needed the extra time off to build up his strength for that fly ball out in game 1. That fly will keep him in the lineup for 5 more games.

Yeah, on my list of things that shouldn't go anywhere...overturning the 14th amendment or pretending that it says nothing about birthright citizenship is pretty far up there.

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Konerko or viciedo wouldve had it I doubt Viciedo would have, Konerko would have at least kept it from going to the wall. I feel like Kotsay didn't even move towards the throw until it was on him.
