  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:44 AM) It's official. Kotsay is the biggest whipping boy in Soxtalk history. Really, you've been here since 2002?
  2. Yeah, that one wasn't really close.
  3. Really Kap, after the last couple years of the Roberts court, arguing that it's wrong for courts to be activist and put their fingers into things that it shouldn't be in...just rings as hollow to me as me saying that the Roberts court decides things based on politics does to you. Everything's politics, and everyone's happy with activism if it benefits their side. We just haven't had a legit left-leaning court since, well, probably before the 70's, so I don't get happy "Gore wins!" decisions like you do, and you're stuck complaining about why Brown Vs. Board of Education was a wrongheaded, liberal, activist decision.
  4. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) Why the f*** isn't Benoit pitching in this series? I think they used their bullpen pretty heavily coming into this series and it's been a while since they've had an offday.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) I'm pretending that it says nothing about birthright citizenship? It says something, but not what most people interpret it as. I'm not ignoring it... All persons born or naturalized in the united states are citizens. Really...there are some vague things in the constitution...That's not one of them.
  6. QUOTE (Allsox @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Edwin's definitely got the stuff to be more than a 5th starter. Just gotta throw some more strikes with his offspeed stuff and he could be Peavy Part II. The problem with the offspeed stuff wasn't that he wasn't throwing strikes with it, it's that for the first couple innings it was hittable offspeed stuff, it wasn't sharp or breaking hard. When the fastball is around the plate, it's not going to matter if the slider drops off the table at the end because they have to gear up to hit the 96 mph heat. THe problem with the slider was it wasn't sharp and they were looking for it.
  7. Soxnet.net game wrapup with tons of details about Jackson's outing in case you missed it.
  8. Leyland's out of his mind if he doesn't pinch hit for some of these lefties.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) I agree, but that half inning was just too long... Shack is 100% right here. THat was a 35 minute+ half inning after the guy had thrown 90 pitches.
  10. Why you bring him out after 35 minutes sitting on the bench I have no idea.
  11. Especially with as long as this top of the 8th has lasted, it's time for the bullpen to take over.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) And I don't remember much being written about Wise, Erstad and Mackowiak either...it was obvious they were being overexposed or not the correct fits for how Ozzie was trying to use them. If nothing else, it was more of an instigation to look at possible controversies between KW and Ozzie, as we've seen the ongoing DH discussion for seemingly a year now, yet no solution in sight. I remember more than 1 article written about how bad Mack was in CF...there was a reason why the press asked him about whether he was comfortable in CF and he gave that answer about how he wasn't comfortable out there. Wise was so out of place that the fans were booing him in the 2nd home game of the season or something like that. The press couldn't ignore that the leadoff guy was being booed before april 7.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) If he's gonna be the team mascot and contribute nothing to the games, why not just put Southpaw in the dugout during the game? I'm sure he can pump the team up/keep it loose. I'm betting Southpaw can ground out to 2nd pretty well.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) If Ozzie really has fed that line of bull to everyone then we can wave goodbye to Lilli or Tank when Teahen comes back. I think none of us would be as angry if we thought that wouldn't be the case.
  15. QUOTE (Sox72 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Oh great. You're going to ruin this for me. Might as well post some reading material for me to look at now..... The LA Times ran a monster feature on it a couple years ago. Probably as good of a starting point as you can get. Things have changed somewhat since then, but then again...the more things change...
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) I'd pull him and say great f***ing job, Edwin. I'd love to see him in the 8th, but you're right. Rested bullpen, guy who needs the confidence.
  17. Jackson's had only 2 starts this season without a walk. Gave up at least 4 runs in both of the previous ones.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Dude has been very good tonight. Not dominant, but very good. The last 3 innings its' like he's been unleashed. I think he threw one offspeed pitch the entire 7th, and he dealt with the lefties.
  19. Rhymes, LH hitter...went after the high fastball and just flew out.
  20. Jackson came up there looking for a fastball strike, got it, and hit it. That's going to happen sometimes.
