  1. I think I just heard a plane crash. I'm assuming that ball caused it.
  2. QUOTE (RudyLawRules @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Yep...he needs to keep the junk low and away. A whole lot of the junk has been floating...and if people have to sit on the fastball they're going to start hitting it. They've been looking for the slider thinking its a weaker pitch and hitting it when they get it.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) Such a joke he is. Apparently, Carlos Quentin would have a .937 OPS if he wasn't unlucky like Mr. Kotsay, according to my "What IF?" calculator. I don't see people complaining about Quentin being "unlucky". That is starting to tell me that there isn't really a whole lot to this improving numbers from luck thing. If you asked me who had hit more balls hard that hadn't been hits, I'd have actually said Kotsay. When Quentin hits the ball hard, he gets hit. I can say Kotsay's hit it to the track a few times, but some of that is just that he isn't strong enough to hit it out. Quentin hits it out when he hits it hard. Edit: for example, Carlos just hit a ball that I think cleared a full section of about 25 rows of people in the LF at Comerica.
  4. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 08:01 PM) One? You arent watching the game apparently I guess you could say there were 2 on that play, not sure what else you're talking about.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) I think the Red Sox would be more than willing to deal Papelbon. Daniel Bard has been pretty dominant this year and is under their control and much cheaper for the next 5 or 6 years. Papelbon is due another big arbitration number next year, then becomes a FA. The Red Sox aren't going to give him up for beans though.
  6. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) We deserve to lose this one, it's that simple It's a 1-0 game in the 3rd and we've made one defensive miscue. WTF?
  7. That was really bloody lucky. Jackson tried the same pitch he retired him on in the first.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) Both of Cabrera's outs were on MASSIVE hangers. AJP should just stop calling for the slider, it's f***ing horrible. He's thrown a couple decent ones to Cabrera and his best one of the day was on Peralta. Peralta would fit in with our lineup based on how he tried to swing at that slider.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) Awesome, bad defensive play all around. No way Tigers don't have a big inning here. Thankfully, he's managed to throw decent breaking balls to Cabrera.
  10. That was some awful work by the D there. Jackson's thinking "You told me that would be better!"
  11. That's 5 hits in 6 outs for Jackson. I'm underwhelmed by both his fastball and especially his offspeed stuff. It seems like he has no ability to put anyone away even after getting ahead of them.
  12. Bah, I don't mind being patient there, the odds of Pierre hitting into the DP were low.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) I wish he would use a different shade of green so I don't have to strain to read his "sarcasm." The other shade of green we have really doesn't look green to him.
  14. Oh, and I should note...most of the basis for this decision is the equal protection clause of that godawful, needs to be overturned 14th amendment.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) I was wondering how many people were going to join Gates and Buffett when I first heard about this. Buffett's point was something to the effect of "seriously, I don't need it and there's nothing I can do with it" (Keeping my mouth shut here...)
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) I don't know why one of the media outlets can't just hire one sharp kid who understands at least some advanced metrics and can present a reasonably intelligent case to the fans of this City. There's this blogger over at Soxnet.net who seems ok at it...
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) I just don't think it's feasable [sic] that we acquire him since his DL stint has been extended. The Dodgers still think they're in the race, they'd probably want to wait a few weeks to see how their acquisitions play out anyway.
  18. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) God hates Mark Kotsay batting 6th. Why yours is in green and mine is not I'll never know...
  19. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) I wish a judge had ruled Mark Kotsay unconsitiutional today. Mark Kotsay is not trying to turn your children gay.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Unfortunately, any decision still has to survive the Roberts court, and really, what are the odds that this one is decided on the law and not the politics?
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) I just wish we could do something about Kotsay . It's a powerless feeling to be part of the overwhelming majority of people who recognize that Mark Kotsay is a detriment to this team, and who know that Ozzie doesn't give a damn. I'm used to that feeling. From watching Rob Mackowiak have a ball go over his head every game for 3 months in 2006 that someone else would have caught, to Darin Erstad playing everyday in 2007, to Dewayne Wise being given the starting CF position and leadoff hitter's job in 2009, it's not like this is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) You read my mind. I was just thinking the same thing. I think it's basically the decline of newspapers. Because of budget cuts, nobody has a "controversial" columnist anymore, one who would just attack the situation and harp on it every single day. The TV guys don't have a forum, really, their sportscasts are too short. That would leave Stoney to tell the truth on it or Darrin Jackson and they can't do that for obvious reasons Somebody should at least write a feature story on Kotsay, however, and get different takes on his suckiness. I dont read the papers online every day; has anybody written a Kotsay piece lately? Or one on what the Sox are going to do when Teahen comes back at least? Unless this is just a soxtalk phenonemon, it would be worth the media discussing it. I dunno about the "lack of controversial columnists" angle. Seems like there have been plenty of controversial sports media personalities in Chicago over the last few years...the problem I see is that the most notorious of them flat out sucked at life.
  23. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) One minor point that may just be semantics, but Rongey, I believe said that Kotsay is a good "clubhouse" guy. That to me signifies that he is good at encouraging others and maybe giving advice to younger players, things of that sort. I don't know that Thome was like that. Jim was always considered a gentleman, and was well liked because he was such a nice guy. Jim might not of been the best "player coach" so to speak. For all we know Mark Kotsay could be sort of a jerk at times, but knows how to help others. Again, could just be a matter of semantics and I personally have never met either of them, it's a "maybe that's why". Then pay him to be a coach.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Throw a battery or something at Kotsay please. That'll be just the spark he needs!
