Fangraphs had them at 11% on winning the division and 27% to make the playoffs on Tuesday before this move. Add 8 WAR with a pitcher and Correa and that has to narrow right?
So far 16% to win the division, 35% to make the playoffs from this move.
Everybody else goes up though.
With reasonable guesses for arb and options, I eyeballed the White Sox payroll next year at $170 million +. A lot of that is guaranteed thanks to the bullpen additions…and that’s without Abreu.
Technically both of those guys should sit once a week and DH once a week, for health and age reasons. But you’re right at 1b it won’t happen because of Abreu. I could be cynical and suggest that the manager could screw up resting the LF too, but we will see.
One nice thing is that Harrison, Leury, and Romy can all cover some of the OF spots if/when Engel is unavailable. But yes, for the season - they ought to at least have someone competent at AAA, and they don't really have that right now.
Statcast graded him out as average in 19/20 but every other year he's been about -5 in outs-above-average out in RF, including last year (-6). So somewhat below average but not awful would be a reasonable description so far?
So the solution to this is to have Keuchel all suited up and ready to go for the playoffs. After all, if Kopech isn't available, he's surely good to go.
