  1. Mandatory note about how the Rockies' owner nearly got the owners in trouble during the CBA negotiations by claiming large financial losses he couldn't afford. (The union, had they been vindictive enough, could have used that claim made during negotiations as a way to get the Rockies to open their books)
  2. If people would care to use it, I created a thread for Bryant Talk.
  3. Carlos Rodon's fangraphs-calculated value in 132 innings in 2021: $39.1 million.
  4. Because we actually have need of additional starting pitching and instead of keeping Rodon we spent extra money on Velasquez and Kelly?
  5. I'll be the one who takes the unvalidated but can't be ruled out shot at him...one big change since last contract is the presence of LaRussa. I expect a 2/3 split in favor of laugh responses. Get to it.
  6. I thought he would have accepted at the time, and I was totally ok with that given the white sox's roster (note that they're at least thinking about additional starting pitching). However, Boras seemed surprisingly confident it wouldn't matter at the time, to the point where maybe the part I was wrong about was that they were going to turn it down if they got it.
  7. While Canada could do whatever they want, there are early but convincing signs of an increase in US case load over the next month, so don’t count on it being gone.
  8. Because presumably you’re getting something of value by trading the younger one, not jettisoning them?
  9. Mumbles something about 2015 and tarring and feathering Rick Hahn and moves on.
  10. I wouldn't say that you're required to trade them (You can send Romy to AAA and keep all of them on the roster, or send Vaughn to AAA for work until an injury occurs). But given those two choices, Joc and a trade.
  11. A couple times in late November they did say that they misread something about the market but were never clear about what. They have continued to insist that there is a market for Kimbrel the whole time, despite the lack of movement.
  12. Smith doesn’t count any more but they got the equivalent of 4 top 30 prospects from their system which is stronger than ours, including their first round pick from last year. The other 3 are all big league ready. You’re literally talking about Montgomery, Vera, Ramos, and Burger or something like that. It’s the entire white Sox system.
  13. I was surprised by the same thing, but at least in the playoffs he was nails once he got past us.
  14. I mean, we’re playing the compare bad decisions game - Kelly has a career FIP of 3.94, projections about 3.6-3.7, is currently hurt, and getting more per year.
  15. It’s worth pointing out that the Rays sent Joey Wendle to the Marlins for a AA outfielder who has some promise but didn’t break the bank. A couple people had suggested him beforehand, he is in his arb-2 year so cheaper than either of the 2b/utility guys they paid for. That would have absolutely been worth something of comparable value to the white Sox.
  16. Boston has been rumored on all the OF bats and they traded for Schwarber last year. They also have tons of new tax space they haven’t used yet. That seems darn likely now.
  17. Well,if there’s no market for these outfielders then that’s a strange deal. I wonder if this is the floodgates going. 2 gone quickly and Oakland’s position players traded, Boston and LA haven’t spent that new tax space yet, now there might be fewer outfielders than interested teams, so patience might mean you get no one.
  18. I am surprised they went with the lefty over Bryant.
  19. Fair enough, blame my memory here.
