Mandatory note about how the Rockies' owner nearly got the owners in trouble during the CBA negotiations by claiming large financial losses he couldn't afford.

(The union, had they been vindictive enough, could have used that claim made during negotiations as a way to get the Rockies to open their books)

Yeah not a good look for the poor owners. This clown who couldn’t make ends meet  running  a team, and Tom Ricketts and his epic losses sign Suzuki and is so cash strapped he is trying to buy a soccer team.

No way JR was paying that.. and shouldn’t

Of course he wasn't but if the next owners plan on keeping this team intact they are going to be looking at 200 million payrolls easy.

There are only 30 ownership groups on the planet.

Someone out there can deal with that monetary reality plus the fact the Sox need to relocate to the South Loop and get a piece of that tourism dollar plus the Tri State crowd coming into Union Station.

Harold Washington had it all set up for Reinsdorf. He wanted his beloved White Sox to anchor the South Loop.

Oh the money that ownership would be raking in now.

Harold was a visionary.

Reinsdorf,  not so much.

Yes, let's rehash 1988 some more.

Unfortunately the OF market is now set.

Yeeesh.

Bryant can play 3B too, and I don't see anyone going to 7 years or even 6 for Conforto and Castellanos. Bryant has a larger pedigree and has actually been an MVP before who plays everywhere. He's risky because he's regressed, but I don't consider Conforto or Castellanos all that similar.

All this does say is that "position player deals are at the top of the range expected", which is exactly what one should have concluded based on November and based on the new CBA.
