Sox vs Atlanta 6-22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) I can understand not playing him every game - but I think 50% would be reasonable. No reason why he can't be worked in part at 3rd, a few games at DH, to get ~60% playing time. Playing him 1 out of 5 games is idiotic. Technically it's 1 out of 4 games I think, right? Offday yesterday, which was just another day he could have been playing in Charlotte. It'll be one out of 5 when he sits on the bench against Hudson tomorrow.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) (although his bat may very well come in handy if he's used correctly). Full time pinch hitter against National League opponents.

Sox vs Atlanta 6-22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Well this one is on Kenny. Bad time to bring him up. I don't blame Ozzie for shielding the kid a bit. I can't blame KW for dumping Nix, but if he's bringing him up, 1 game in 5 days is unacceptable even with an offday. He could have had nearly another week in Charlotte for that time.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) Is anyone really suprised that Ozzie is doing this to Viciedo? No. This has been another edition of simple answers to simple questions.

Why is Randy Williams on this team?
QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) I believe 100% that there is SOMEONE in our minor league system that can do what he's doing, or better. And I say that knowing almost nothing about our farm system. There's just no way someone couldn't come up and do even a little better. Well, Threets was hurt for a while and he was the "Randy Williams failure insurance option". If we were abjectly desperate for a LHP, that hurts. That said, Torres as a RH long reliever would have been a lot more useful than Williams as abject failure over the past month. Now that Threets is back, has pitched 10 innings in Charlotte since coming back from injury, and hasn't given up a run...there's no excuse.

Why is Randy Williams on this team?
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) Thing is.. Williams hasn't even been asked much to do just LOOGY work with Ozzie. I feel like I've said this about 1000 times, that was my main beef with KW the entire off-season is not finding that solid second lefty to pair with Thornton, especially cause Ozzie likes said match-ups. I just hate micro-managing. A lot of the reason why Williams has faced a lot of righties this year is that Ozzie has tried to use him as much as possible in garbage time when games are already over...because you don't want to blow the rest of your bullpen in those games, and no one has any desire to pitch Williams in a close game, when he can't even get lefties out.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Are you willing to overpay for Alex Gonzalez? God No. IMO, if we're going to upgrade this team...by far the best way to do it is "fix Beckham and Quentin". With the looming surge of players hitting FA or being cut (I count 10) from the major league roster after this season, it's simple numbers. Even if Flowers or Hudson struggle next year...we need them to be warm bodies as much as anything else.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Might as well put this here as well http://bbref.com/pi/shareit/yB88b McDougal's 2007 season just misses the top 100.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) They are 4.5 games back, with a heck of a pitching staff. There is no way in hell they are going to give up in mid-June at 4.5 games back. What the f*** is the point of even having a professional team if that is going to be the way they operate. This is pure and absolute nonsense. If you're willing to overpay for one of their players (i.e. Hudson for Gonzalez) I'm sure they'd be happy to do that deal. But there's no good reason for them to sell right now, you're correct.

It's not oil spill related but I missed this while I was conferencing. Yowza. No wonder the Japanese keep winning those votes.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) Yeah but we had a pretty solid top of the rotation in 2008. And our rotation hasn't been strong this year. It's had a nice 2 week stretch against the worst teams in MLB. And we were missing Carlos Quentin, and our rotation was totally burnt out by the 163 game race where we basically had 3 starting pitchers since Vazquez doesn't count once you get to September.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) 1) That was never said 2) THe bill doesn't fully get implemented until 2014. 3. This is a separate issue that was created by the Republican Congress in 1996 and which has been fixed on a temporary basis yearly since then.

Afghanistan.
So, it appears we have an insubordinate military commander running things in Afghanistan. Or at the very least, one who is very inarticulate in his choice of language used publicly to describe his civilian superiors. Link Private disagreements and even private jabs/insults/outright loathing, fine. But doing that in front of the press? I don't know how that isn't a firing offense.

Kenny Williams for GM of the Year
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) With regards to the thread title....LMAO He didn't get it in 2005 when we won 99 games but you think he deserves it now? BWAHAHA! Well, first of all, there is no GM of the year award. It's the Sporting News executive of the year.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) Yeah but hasn't he been on a slump lately - which is signs that his average will sink back down to around .258? In June he's hitting .229 with a .556 OPS. He's only played 3 games in the last 7 days, because they're benching him for Colvin a lot right now. He's 3 for his last 18 with 1 walk in the last 2 weeks, only having played 7 games in that time.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) How good is DeJesus defensively? Does he have a good arm? Also, he doesn't steal bases. I don't know if I would replace Pierre with him. I guess you would play him in RF and make Quentin the full time DH. Because we don't have enough DH's with batting averages around .200 and OPS's around .700? The only year DeJesus played a lot of LF was 2009, although he's shown up there occasionally other years. He played very good defense there that year and fangraphs found him to have an above average arm. Over his career he's been well above average in LF and slightly below average in CF.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) Rodman definitely had an athleticism edge on Noah.... a big one. He was a beast. I would personally say that Rodman was stronger but I think Noah is faster.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Oh boy are we greatly overrating Noah. I like the kid, but Rodman was on his own planet. Noah has a height advantage over him and probably an overall athleticism advantage over him, but yeah, Rodman...yeah. 18.7 and 18.3 rebounds/game in his 2 best seasons. Man that team was ridiculous.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:29 AM) Dayan will kick his ass I gotta call him Tank or Hollywood Viciedo cuz when I say Dayan I feel like I'm calling him Diane. You know, I really like DV matching up against Lilly. Fly ball pitcher, DV's aggressiveness probably has him swinging early in the count rather than letting Lilly get the advantage.

Kenny Williams for GM of the Year
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:53 AM) The best pitcher in the world cannot single-handedly win the game, at least in the AL. Gavin tried hard last Friday.
