QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) The problem is that we're the Kansas City Royals without Zach Greinke and Luke Hochevar, along with some serious offensive talent in the minors coming up and on the rise. Greinke is 1-7 with a 3.60 ERA this season. Last year his WHIP was 1.07, this year it's right back to his career average, 1.25.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Who would claim any of those players (if they were DFA'ed) and dare to start them besides an NL team? A hit...pretty marginal one. Alexei The Cuban Miscue Ramirez strikes again. Really, I have to give you a list, and 1/2 the league doesn't count because they're in the NL? Castro has a handful of at bats, but he's still got a .655 OPS and his career numbers against LHP are solid. Teams in contention that are missing a RH Catcher? Oakland, Texas, the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Rays if Shoppach can't come back healthy. Teams that could use a backup 1b/OF? Hell, the Yankees, the Red Sox again (esp. if they can get someone to take part of Lowell's deal), the Blue Jays, the A's again. Backup/defensive replacement in the IF? Blue Jays, Rangers, Yankees, Red Sox if they could move Lowell's deal. Andruw Jones? Teams that could use an OF/DH bat? The Jays if Lind keeps sucking, the Red Sox desperately, the Yankees, Oakland could seriously use some DH power, LAA has room for OF help since Matsui has been bad. Teahen...LAA, could work for depth in Toronto, would fit well in Minnesota, etc.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) See Chad Bradford. Can't remember Kent Tekulve...haha, Kelly Wunsch? Takatsu was very close too. Takatsu was stuff as much as motion too.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Vizquel, Teahen, Jones, Kotsay and Castro don't even make the bench on more than 5 other major league teams, mostly NL squads. Add Nix to that list, that's 40% of our "offensive" roster. Really? I'd say they all do.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) This is exactly my question though....are you telling me every roster we bring in doesn't care? I get the impression that there's only a few types of rosters that look like they care a ton even if they're losing. A team with a lot of young players who also have good speed and make a lot of aggressive mistakes on the basepaths might still look like they care. If a bunch of 23 year olds were making the number of aggressive baserunning mistakes this team has made this year, they'd look like they cared. If a 22 year old had tried to bunt for a base hit 20 times, hey, he's trying to make stuff happen.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) I think these are more command/control/location/pitch selection issues. They've both flashed very dominant fastballs and offspeed stuff from time to time this season, just not on anything close to a consistent or sustained basis. Bah, I disagree. They've been beaten up so regularly that the flashes of their "dominant fastballs and offspeed stuff" may as well be written off as accidents.

I like how Stone says we've helped Valbuena get back to respectability...even though he's hitting .183. Because on our team, that average would be respectable.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) That makes no sense to me. If we trade Santos, we are going to acquire a guy that has a lack of experience and struggles to overcome as they learn at the major league level. We own Santos for six years. There is no way he goes anywhere unless a huge name is traded for. If we were 1 player away from winning the division this year, and that player was someone like a closer or a starting OF, whatever, then dealing Santos to bring that guy in would make sense. Anyone think we're 1 player away?

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) What you are stating is that all losing teams look this way - you're making a correlation between losing and looking listless - but I'm saying I think there is something else at play here. Almost as though Kenny puts together teams with a certain character to them that seems to be unable to respond to challenges or to rally the troops or to pounce on an opportunity. I see what you're saying, but I believe it's wrong.

The Suggested Moves / Who Goes/Stays thread
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Guys to bring up: There isn't many who have deserved to come up- but i would like to see Viciedo come up to play some 3b at some point in the year. Obviously if we deal AJ- that means Flowers will come up as well. Its time to let these guys get some MLB at bats. This is like the third time I've had to say this in a week, so let me say it as clearly as I can. Dayan Viciedo is no longer a 3b. They have moved Dayan Viciedo to 1b. Dayan Viciedo is a 1b. He will not play 3b.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) If the Sox lose today - especially if they lose bad - does any kind of move have to be made tomorrow on the off day? it wouldn't shock me if KW got started shaking things up after losing 5/6 at home, but I won't count on it until I see it.

6/5 Games
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:02 AM) Have you seen him pitch?? Deceptive deliveries usually play in the bigs a la Dontrelle Willis early on I've always gotten the feeling those work better from LHP than RHP unless the RHP is a true sidearmer.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) I agree with this 100%, lets put our best hitters where they should be and hope for the best. I realize GB and TCQ are not producing but there is no reason for that bum Kotsay to be in the 5 slot. No reason whatsoever. This lineup and organization is a complete joke right now. And if we kept Quentin in the 3 hole/5 hole and Gordon in the 2 hole, we'd have just as many people angry about why they haven't been demoted in the lineup.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Again, this has been going on since at least 2001 IMO. So, you're saying this is David Wells's fault? I think you just, whether you like it or not, sorta admitted that I'm right; this is just how teams look once things go bad. They start looking lazy. Tired. Like they don't care.

If You Want a Top Prospect
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Indeed, but I don't think the rosters Kenny has put together for the most part have been those of losing teams. So what is happening? The 2007 roster was a flat-out losing roster. D1 as a rookie. Joe Crede with a failing back that everyone knew was gone. A beaten up Scott Podsednik. Jerry Owens leadoff/LF. Terrible year from JD. Injured year from Konerko. Uribe his usual sub-.700 frustrating OPS. Aging/injured Jose Contreras. Basically a 3 man starting rotation. No depth in the minors so that guys like Andy Gonzalez were the replacements. Inexperienced bullpen and no patience with the guys in it. 2009 and 2010...the guys who have killed us have been; Carlos Quentin, Jermaine Dye, Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Josh Fields, Gavin Floyd, Jake Peavy, Bobby Jenks. I can't say I see a serious theme amongst any of them. Dye got old. Quentin got hurt. Alexei and Floyd can't get over their early season struggles. Josh Fields's health and swing fell apart. Gordon Beckham is just awful. Jake Peavy was hurt by a line drive when we needed him last year, and hasn't found anything this year. Bobby Jenks has lost his control. Some of those could be expected, to some point, but usually, you don't expect so few positives.
