  1. Clifford Lee will make his debut tomorrow night.
  2. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) DJ just mentioned that the Ballpark's gun is really slow. Gavin is apparently throwing 88 mph fastballs right now. What was Feliz throwing last night?
  3. The real meat to the data is what the "Average" is telling you, because very few people in the public sector receive the kind of salary Lloyd Blankfein does (question; does that could things like Rick Waggoner's $10 million golden parachute as public or private?) It could mean...the federal government hires very few minimum wage employees compared to the private sector. Until it seizes Wal-mart, this is probably true. It could mean...the federal government requires more highly educated workers than most of the private sector. It could mean...a lot of the income in the private sector is counted differently because it is recorded as things like stock options/premium health care and retirement packages for the wealthiest. It could mean...public sector positions provide health care benefits and the private sector, especially for low-income workers, does not. It could mean...they counted all the bank bonuses as public sector benefits since the taxpayers paid for them.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Wonder if 2,500 would get him close to the HOF? Not in this Era.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Last I saw, Andruw Jones could play the outfield. Even if you don't want to play him everyday in the outfield, he can still play it occasionally, even up to 3-4 times a week. And I'll bet he'll be out of the rotation by the end of May if we try that.
  6. I found the blog post noted on the side for the "Chicago Sexcon" to be, um, surprising.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) China hasn't been communist since the early 80's really. I would say that the Mexican government is worse to its people than Cuba's. In my personal opinion. Well, the biggest problem with the Mexican government is that it sort of has to deal with an ongoing drug money and weapons from the U.S. fueld insurgency.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) I'd give a chance to f***ing Carlos Delgado at this point. Because what we really need is to bench Konerko and/or Jones.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) On the economic part of it, many Republicans have asked for an EFFECTIVE guest worker program to take this into account. The problem was...the Republicans could have passed exactly that bill several years ago with substantial Democratic support. The Democratic Congress and the President wanted to. But...the Republicans wouldn't move a bill that would piss off the 50-75% of their caucus (whatever the number is) that hate brown people think that deporting 15 million people is practical.
  10. Back on subject...the D-Backs start a 4 game series at Wrigley this weekend. Protests appear to have been organized.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) Here's a novel thought. The housing bubble blame should go on banks AND the people who took personal financial risks AND the government agencies who failed in their duties. All three groups f***ed up. And yet...only 1 of those 3 groups wound up wealthier for it.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) because the oil companies and the GOP have successfully convinced a wide swath of the American public that alt energy isn't ready and therefore shouldn't be used. And having the President say that oil rigs are to clean to worry about and never spill a thing I'm sure has nothing to do with the success of that marketing campaign.
  13. According to a Survey, the Cleveland Indians are the most commonly disliked franchise in baseball, beating out the Red Sox (#2). The White Sox are the 7th most disliked.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) I think you're just doing the sound bite tactic here. Calling out Obama because he was wrong about the balance of where oil spills came from during Katrina, IMO, is subverting the important points here. The important point is...saying that spills from rigs don't happen is incorrect, and it's an incorrect argument in favor of a policy he's supporting. It was incorrect in Katrina/Rita, it was incorrect after a rig spill off California that was part of what spurred the offshore moratoria, and there's some well deserved ironic scorn in having him proved wrong 3 weeks later.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) I don't see anything wrong in what he said there. How many rig spills have we seen in recent history? Well, he's 100% incorrect on the supposed lack of rig spills from Katrina/Rita as well. But considering that it took less than a month after that statement for him to be proven wrong by what is shaping up to be one of the biggest oil spills in U.S. history...from one of those supposedly safe rigs...that's the kind of thing that I'd expect to happen to W. By the way, the first link is a 14 mb pdf file, if you're on a slow connection, just trust me on the text.
  16. Quotes from blogs that I enjoy but that I'll be ridiculed for posting because they're from dirty blogs.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Rich Daley and Washington DC love you. And the Supreme Court doesn't exist. John Roberts is simply a bad dream.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) gun bannings, The fact that you included that when gun laws are weaker than they have been in decades...
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) The next five were the best he has looked since he got here, IMO. Those 3 starts last year?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) After viewing what it has become OK to require citizens to do, or wanting to force them to do, in this country lately, I don't see how anyone can use the constitution as a defense any more. That document has been obliterated for all practical purposes.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) I think the success he's had with the Bucks also showed how much he needs a dominant C / low post threat if you will, which the Bulls never really had (although they could have been a lot closer if they drafted Aldridge instead of Thomas as you said Balta). Did he have that in Phoenix? I think Skiles is pretty much good for a couple extra wins per year, as long as you have players he can fit with. I just think, in hindsight, Wallace was a player that he couldn't fit with.
  22. MLB has expanded All Star rosters again, this time to 34 players.
  23. Orioles prospect Chris Tillman threw a no-hitter at AAA.
