  1. This is probably the "other shoe" that I noted last night.
  2. Now if 1/2 our lineup could stop doing their best Kotsay impressions...
  3. Unless he has a terrible season or gets hurt, you're off by at least a factor of 2 in dollars.
  4. Hmph. Turns out the guy who's lab I'm working in just wound up with an extended time in Italy after a meeting for the DAWN mission.
  5. Put the uniform on but creatively vandalize it in some way. For example, if you're terrible...put the name "Soriano" on it. If you're good, put the name "Brock" on it.
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) May have been the case then, not sure it will be the same right now because of the factors I've mentioned. One team such as Minnesota who had interest in him in the past now has Sessions, Rubio and Flynn as PG's for example. Every year it's a different team rumored to be interested. Portland was on the list for a year or two and then went for Miller instead. The Lakers, the Heat have been loci of rumors in recent years. The Bulls just don't want to turn him into cap space alone.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) For a team like Toronto or Baltimore with no chance to make the playoffs, its easy to see why the fans would stay home. This is the one real thing that eventually baseball is going to have to realize is a problem. Teams that are persistently down in geographic regions are hurting the overall revenue, even if the area isn't going to be a baseball powerhouse otherwise. If Toronto, the DC/Baltimore Area, Pittsburgh, KC, South Florida, Oakland, perhaps TX, etc., never put up a team that is even in contention through the end of August, then there's no reason for those areas to build baseball fan-bases.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) DH is the only serious hole they left. And 1 of our DH's has a 1.073 OPS right now.
  9. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) Just like Thome. Thome would have been back if the team had wanted him.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Because it's 5X harder to find a starting SS than a starting 2B...just like finding a corner outfielder/DH is 10X easier than finding a leadoff hitter with high OBP skills and an 85% success rate stealing. Really? It's 5x harder to find a starting 2b than SS? First of all, I doubt it's actually 5x easier...secondly, I'm not convinced that it's even easier at all.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) I don't know how overall attendance figures are looking so far, but I've seen that the Blue Jays, Nationals, & Orioles have already had record low attendace days for their parks, including under 10k for a game at Camden Yards. I happily have the data readily available. Worth noting is that this year has had considerably better weather than previous years. That probably means 2 things; first, more people have been able to go out to games, and second...there have been more games earlier in the year due to fewer rain/snow-outs (which probably actually help overall attendance by pushing more games into the summer months).
  12. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) So if the worst league in the pitcher go against the pitcher of the best league but the worst team can have a chance of beating the best team on the worst day...you scientists confuse the hell out of me sometimes... Basically, the Sox need to stop sucking and win some baseball games.
  13. This is still baseball. The worst team in the league and the worst pitcher in the league can go up against the best team in the league and the best pitcher in the league and have a good chance of still winning on that particular day. You wouldn't enjoy it if they couldn't.
  14. Ranking the NBA's 5 worst defenders. For Bulls fans: Nocioni's on there. For Pistons enemies: Villanueva.
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) I'm sure the Bulls would love to dump his contract and sign a J.J Redick type of SG for the MLE in the off-season, but who's going to take Kirk's contract? A lot of teams are going to put their eggs into the FA basket who have the cap room obviously. The only teams I could possibly see interested are the Lakers (if they let Fisher and Farmar go), maybe Indiana if they did a swap for T.J Ford, and possibly Sacramento. That's about it. I've gotten the impression repeatedly over the past few years that there have been teams who would be willing to take on Hinrich's contract for nothing/expiring deals, but the Bulls genuinely still like him and aren't going to move him unless they get something of value in return.
  16. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) That's a joke, right? Clearly no.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) Well, unless I am missing something... isn't the Kindle an Amazon product? Its kind of their thing, I doubt they'd distribute them elsewhere. Best bet would be to try E-Bay for used or purchased/not used, but then you are rolling the dice on how well it might work. It's actually somewhat similar to Apple. They hold the license, but you can buy it in lots of places...but almost every place has the same price because it's an Amazon product and they can set the list price so that no one else can beat them. They're happy to sell it to you if you want to buy it somewhere else because not everyone who might want one is a regular e-commerce customer.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) Not the slider...you'll have elbow ligament damage like Liriano sooner rather than later. Work on the follow through/windup first. The technique Lincecum's dad used was to put a dollar bill on the ground on the front of the mound so that he'd have to go with a full follow through to pick it up.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Just like last year. He had a much much much deeper hole last year to dig his way out of.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) I think the organization might be willing to change their idea about Beckham again if they had a new manager. MAYBE? Why would they? He's simply an ideal bat at 2b if he avoids this sophomore slump he's started.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 03:34 AM) There's no doubt in my mind PK would accept any trade in that scenario. I'll bet there's a team or two he'd avoid.
  22. Did you know that the U.S. gives a tax break to airlines if they collect money as fees rather than as part of the ticket price? They pay a higher tax rate on your ticket price than they do on your $25 bag fee. No wonder they like bag fees so much.
