  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) Because, unless we're getting an experienced guy, I don't want to get another guy who will go through growing pains like Vinny has/is. My response is that there's a difference between hiring a guy who's ready for the job and hiring Del Negro, who basically was a small time guy in the Suns front office. I can see your point...but if a guy's been an assistant for a long time and had success at that, I'd be more than willing to give him a shot. Of course, JR could just offer $15 million a year for Coach K...
  2. 3 year, $38 million extension for Ginobili, who was set to be a FA this offseason. That's a ton of money for someone who seems like he's close to breaking down, but he's been good enough that I was at least curious about whether he might be an option as a veteran SG for the Bulls this offseason if they can nail down Bosh for the frontcourt.
  3. Every sign out there seems to suggest the Redskins are seriously going to try to move Haynesworth, despite having just paid him a $21 million roster bonus.
  4. Bosh had surgery on his face today. He'll be in the hospital at least until tomorrow, possibly longer, it's possible his facial injury could cost him the season.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) The only coaches listed that I would want are Avery Johnson and Jeff Van Gundy. Why? Opposed to trying some other team's assistant coach?
  6. We'll see if it's right of course, but I found this argument that Sarah Palin is very likely to be the Republican Nominee in 2012 to be an accurate summation of my feelings right now.
  7. I'm not disagreeing. However, I still find utility in constantly updating the radar.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) And Ed Wade did a horrendous job too. Even if he wanted to do a great job, if he's got a sub .500 team and his ownership is telling him to win now...what exactly can he do? They haven't drafted well, I should note that. But...every time they do something like a mid-season deal to try to "Win now", they hurt their draft position.
  9. The Astros problem has seemed pretty obvious to me, it's all about ownership. Their front office/owner feels like they have a team that can win now and is only a player or two away, and insists on spending and trading according to that plan.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) I believe there has also been some rumors that Choo might just not ever go back to Korea (and who could blame him). While I think it is a sticking point that would prevent him from entering a contract and I'm sure it is something that will weigh on his mind, he does have options and I would surprised to see him actually serve in the military. I wonder whether the government would actually be willing to enforce that as well. Does the government not also gain some benefit by having Korean players earn fame playing in the world's best baseball league, even if it is overseas? And anyway...if they offered a single deferment for a guy playing in MLB...it's not like there's a lot of MLB players in the world where they'd have to worry about this becoming a major way to get out of military service.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) What about your PCs running Vista? How did that work out? What a piece of junk that OS was. I upgraded my last remaining PC with the OS that will not be named last weekend after my free upgrade finally arrived after 4 months of trying to get them to ship it to the right address. God, it was a pleasure to kill that thing off.
  12. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) There's no doubt that Microsoft pilfered most of their ideas and products from others. But MS-DOS and Windows changed the computing landscape. Then Microsoft went into cruise control and starting putting out disasters like Microsoft ME. Windows only changed the computing landscape by making MS-Dos operating systems work like the OS that was already working on Apple computers MS-Dos I will grant you as ridiculously innovative. But now we've gone back to what, the 1970's, for the time when Microsoft genuinely was ahead of Apple in performance and technology?
  13. At least in my opinion...this had very little to do with quality, but had much more to do with Microsoft's exclusivity agreements with companies that paid for their marketing, and their monopolistic actions on a number of levels to make sure they didn't lose control of the market.
  14. Thankfully, the heavy snow over 1/5th of the country this winter proves climate change isn't happening, so I don't need to worry about that data.
  15. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) The purpose of it is to show-off to other countries so they know not to f*** with us. If it actually came down to using a 5th generation fighter the F-35 will be a lot more capable in a combat role. So, your argument is that this country has spent $50 billion on an airplane that it has no use for because it makes us feel like our penises are larger.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) We had concerns, the embassy bombings in Kenya and , plus the USS Cole. But after neutralizing Saddam the first time we didn't have much to worry about other than another intifada. Which is of course why we bombed the country of Iraq for a week in 1998, why we maintained regular no fly zones covering 1/2 the area of the country, why we maintained a UN presence on the ground for 7 years after the war, and why we were regularly exchanging fire with radar installations inside Iraq. Because we had nothing to worry about.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Only if AJ tears an ACL while slipping on the wet grass behind home plate. If this happens you're so getting banned.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) The 80's support of the Afghans had absolutely nothing to do with Afghanistan at all, just who they were fighting. We were scared to fight the Russians and the Russians were scared to fight us, so we tit-for-tatted in guerrilla wars. The names, dates and places change but from 1945 to 1991 the reasons pretty much stayed the same. And the type of war pretty much stayed the same as well. And it's a type of war in which the F-22 is essentially useless. The F-22's purpose is maintaining air superiority over Europe as Russian Tanks march across the German plains. Outside of that...it is remarkably inflexible
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) By Vietnam I'm guessing you mean proxy war against a country that, as far as we knew, matched our military strength. No, I'm saying a guerrilla campaign on territory we don't control against an enemy with strong internal and external support, regardless of where that support comes from. Afghanistan from the 1980's is yet another great example. You're pretending these conflicts didn't exist.
  20. Again, you're focusing on those 2 countries rather than focusing on the style of warfare. It doesn't matter that Iraq and Afghanistan wound up being the targets, what matters is the style of warfare you're preparing for. And anyway...at what point would you say we have enough F-22's? I'm not arguing we shouldn't have any (although I think that you could make the argument easily for just skipping over this generation of fighters entirely and doing a redesign in 10 years), we already have 300 of the things that aren't doing anything.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) For as much credit as Joe Dumars has received over the years, he's had a couple horrible seasons. The Billups trade was beyond retarded, then he spent all their cap money on 2 free agents who barely even play for them now. I still think the Billups trade was a very intelligent move, they weren't going to get back to the title level, especially as Sheed fell off. Moving Billiups destroyed that season, but it freed up a ton of cap space that could have been used to start to rebuild on the fly. The first mistake was not committing afterwards to rebuilding by rapidly trying to move Hamilton's contract as well...or by trying to stockpile draft picks, whatever. Ben Gordon and Villanueva signings were just moronic and compounded the problem.
