  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) Or (3) You cut government budgets to meet what you are taking from taxpayers and keep the money stashed away for later needs. Seriously, you save up a rainy day fund, and when a rainy day comes, your argument is that you should keep sitting on that fund?
  2. I think in this case, the Fed is reporting "Income" in the same way that G.S. and many others are. It gets recorded as paper income, but it's not exactly sustainable and it only counts as income because the Fed itself is propping up the prices of the things it owns.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) That is the sound of billions of dollars circling the drain... http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=9527995 Link
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) I'm pretty sure my statement covers that exact scenario. My definition of smart but ignorant would suggest that if she set out to familiarize herself with a campaign's policy issues, at least on a basic level, she wouldn't struggle to do so nearly as much.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) She is smart but ignorant. Just to go to the recent tell-all book that the media is on now for an example, how do you then respond to Palin's difficulties with say, prepping for the Couric interview or the Debate with OBiden? Where things were going so poorly that they had to bring in McCain's campaign manager to re-work the debate prep and seriously reduce the level of what they were going over?
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) How could anyone think she has a chance to become President? She can't even garner much support from the right let alone anything from the middle or left. She's on Fox News now??? So what? On a great ratings night they'll get 2 million people to watch. There are a heck of a lot more than 2 million people that vote for President. Because Fox News isn't the only media outlet that has dedicated a whole lot of time to selling her. Fox isn't the only network that did wall to wall coverage of her book, or the only network that treats her facebook updates like mana from above.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) I'm pretty annoyed this morning. I hop in the car and on the way to work I pop on Mike & Mike. It turns out Mark McGwire wanted to come clean and testify in those infamous, televised hearings. He told the "prosecution" he would come clean, that he'd used steroids, etc etc, but of course he wanted immunity. They went to the Attorney General, made the offer (which would have been HUGE for those hearings) and he denied the immunity. Big Mac then agreed that he wouldn't talk about the past in the hearings. He did not perjure himself, but he sure wasn't going to say something that would have him wind up in the slammer. He did nothing that any of us wouldn't have done, and now the nation has spent 5 years making fun of his "not here to talk about the past" statements, when he was more than willing. They should have given him immunity and that would have been much less of a joke. I still like Big Mac. Take the other perspective. Let's say he'd come out in 2005 and said all the things he said yesterday. That he did it, that he wished he hadn't, that he didn't really think that it helped him despite his enormous late-career power surge, that he couldn't remember which drugs he had used, and that Canseco was right in general but was wrong on the specifics. This would have been before stuff like the Bonds indictment, the Mitchell Report, Clemens, Palmeiro's suspension, etc. Wouldn't it have: been an even bigger story, and made him come out looking just as bad?
  8. I think the team is better off both now and in the future if Flowers at least starts playing every day in AAA next year and the team signs a LH DH and a backup C.
  9. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) Just saw the MLB stuff on ESPN. At least he seemed sincere in his apology. You know, I'd like to believe he was sincere. But then he pulled out the crappy "I don't really think it helped me" B.S. as a defense as well.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 09:05 AM) The worst part is, it seems to me, that Palin isn't an idiot - but she prefers to play one on TV. Its psychotic. You really think that? At least if it comes to specifically the question of facts, book-learning, etc.? (Ignoring the kind of smarts that allows you to connect with people, etc.)

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) After Spiderman ThreEmo, I dont mind someone else being Spiderman and someone else directing. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see it directed by Michael Bay.
  12. Detroit. They're the starting lineup for the Pistons.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) My perspective is that Republican's aren't afford that same "courtesy" by the NYT. And yes, I thought that was pretty obvious. I'm not sure which easy way to attack this to take. First, you've set up a very specific case here. Can you provide a case of the NYT refusing to provide a correction on something that would benefit the Republicans? And specifically on an obvious fact, like this case, where it is something that is easily documented? Second, I assume I can therefore conclude that the people who haven't offered corrections, including: CNN, Fox, Time, Newsweek, the AP, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Gannett News Service, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Sacramento Bee, the Globe and Mail, the Washington Times, Congressional Quarterly, and the Today Show...all are conservative media outlets, since they keep repeating this.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) As much as I help out with stuff at the local high school, I think that makes me blacker than Obama too. You work for ACORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  15. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) If he doesn't get in(Bonds), you are setting a precedent that A-Rod also cannot gain access to the HOF. I wonder if it's possible to create a "Steroid era" section of the facility in Cooperstown. I don't know if you can simply deny that those years ever happened. Maybe you could get McNamee to hand over Clemens's needles and put them next to McGwire's bat or something like that.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) I'm not so sure. I mean, Hudson and Flowers alone are a rarity - very high end catching and pitching talent, that would be cheap and effective (probably) for many years. And Danks added to the mix. I could see that being a very high price to pay for any one player. Win Now doesn't mean win at all costs to the future, that's the extreme end of things. Just because its a fair deal doesn't mean it's a deal the Padres should take at this point. At least until middle-of-this-season, they have every right to wait until they're blown away.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) What date was that? 01/01/10? 01/02/10? Neither of those is a palindrome. There will be another in 11 days, though. Yeah, the next one is my birthday.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) It helped employees of the Obama admin, that's why they were out in front of this apology. So, your perspective is that it would be better off for them to have left a false statement out in the public mind, and perhaps continued repeating it, regardless of reality?
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Definitely a high price to pay but a risk Kenny usually isn't afraid to take. That being said, off the top of my head, I can't really think of Kenny ever trading away a big time pitching prospect unless we were getting some big time pitching back in return. Only because Soriano wouldn't sign an extension in 2006.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Probably part of his admission. He knows it will never happen. I'd say this admission just doubled his chances, or something like that.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) It's also a palindrome. I'd care more, but there was one of those 9 days ago.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) He didn't have high ratings BEFORE he was given the Tonight Show. I think that's what he means... I barely remember the early 90's and if Leno was ever actually funny.... I'm gonna guess no, though... Actually yes he did. He'd guest-host or at least appear for Carson during his latter years, and the Tonight Show ratings would go up, not down.
  23. He doesn't admit as much stuff as Canseco accused him of doing, but I'll give him props for the admission.
