  2. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) I'm about to be one of those posters that makes bigs leaps and bounds. But he sounds like a guy who has already heard his days are numbered with the team. I dunno, I feel like I see a lot of teams when they've underperfomed go through some personal recriminations after the season ends.
  3. fascinating how this thread works
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I got an idea, let's put together a package for a young Pro Bowl QB who hasn't entered his prime yet this coming offseason. If you put Cutler on the market this offseason, wouldn't you be able to score basically the same deal that the bears gave up for him? 2 firsts and, I dunno, Jason Campbell or someone at that level?
  5. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Stop making sense, just...stop it. It could be worse. You could be a Bills fan.

  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) I'll be interested to see how he flips on this one in about three years. In about 3 years, we better be at least on the path towards a balanced budget by the end of what will hopefully be his 2nd term (if we're not, that means you guys successfully blocked health care reform).
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) You did. Actually no, we didn't. It was still a tool that was only deployed sparingly at that point. Not a tool that was deployed on every vote.
  9. John Elway, Brett Favre, and a fair number of other QB's didn't win when the team around them didn't have the parts. they won when the team around them was just as dominant as they were. If Cutler is going to struggle and cost the Bears games...fine. This season's a wash. Now the Bears need to start filling holes around him. If you put him on a dominant team and he's costing them games, that's a different story.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) That doesn't mean it's going to happen again next year. History suggests it won't. True, but you can't say "He's not good defensively" right now about Jeter and not expect that challenge.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) or move Jeter to 3B because he is not good defensively UZR and a lot of people's eyes say that he had actually a decent defensive year there. Not a gold glove, but actually above average.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Be honest, you're all for it if it benefits your cause. It would have been really useful to have had this filibuster standard in 2001.
  13. Johnny Damon doesn't feel like he should have to take a pay cut from his current $13 mil/year salary.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) You have to be pining for Flowers to be traded this offseason. Bothers me every time I try to like him.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) Rafael Betencourt is one of the most frustrating pitchers to watch, ever. Plus we'd need to clear space in the locker room for his dealer.
  16. Brings memories of the Mad Greek. Wonder if I'll stop there on the way out. The answer will somehow be yes.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) So Octavio Dotel is a free agent, correct? Do we want him back at all? yeah he's a FA, and I don't think we really want him back. We have young RHP who can step in and we're not going to be offering him arbitration and guaranteeing him $6 million next season. We really need an additional LHP reliever.
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) i think we should trade with the yankees for that third baseman of theirs - saw him in the series and i like the cut of his jib. I think we should leave him and his contract with the Yankees but go after his supplier. That guy's more important and has got to come cheaper.
  19. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) And we lost Dye and Thome. Two integral pieces to our offense. One more point I want to make here...yes, we lost JD...but let's look waht we lost with JD. Last year, he put up a solid 1st half but was Brian Anderson like in teh 2nd half with the bat. JD put up a .793 OPS and 103 OPS+ for the season. Those numbers are decidedly average. That's also 2 out of teh last 3 seasons where his OPS has hung around .800. On top of that, JD isn't exactly a defensive specialist any more. Basically, if you can replace JD with a RF who can give you an .800 OPS but better defense, then you've actually upgraded the team.
  20. Unlikely I will ever visit that restaurant then.
  21. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) why not be optimistic??? The best reason for pessimism right now is that we have 2 glaring holes in our lineup, corner OF and DH, and we really need another LOOGY. I think, though, if you get those positions filled with at least average players...we're in good shape. I can understand pessimism right now though, looking at a lineup where Kotsay is the RF and Flowers is the DH.
  22. Seriously thought "Why are you in southern california" when you posted that. Alhambra is a small city next door to Pasadena.
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I think that Rios was almost a desperation move. I realize that our CF situation is somewhat unique, but paying a guy over $60M to sport a .770 OPS and play above-average defense in CF seems like a move that's going to bite us in the rear. Maybe I'm wrong (and Kenny has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt), but this seems like an uncharacteristically bad move by KW. I hope that I'm proven wrong next year. If, hypothetically, Alex Rios put up a .770 OPS next season, that'd still be a major jump from what our CF's have put up since 2006. As such, that's still worth paying a premium for given that it's been a hole in our roster for 3+ years. BUT...also, expecting Alex Rios to put up a .770 OPS next next season also ignores the fact that while playing in a pitcher's park, his OPS the 3 seasions previous to last were .798, .852, .865. Thus...there are lots of reasons to believe he'll do better than .770, and if all he does is .770 in this ballpark that's a good reason to fire greg walker. Furthermore, on top of whatever OPS he does give you, he's probably good for 20-30 steals at a solid 80%+ clip.
