Kershaw versus Hamels in game 1. Somehow that's just appropriate.

Quick, everyone have your wife/significant other kill and eat you, it's the only defense.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Most conservatives weren't ever ok with Bush's spending. You make a stupid point here. It's a dirty hippy blog so you don't have to read it, but I think this is a spot on reply, discussing a phrase from Bruce Bartlett's new book where he says exactly what you did about Bush's "Spending". Quote from Bartlett's book in italics, reply in normal text.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) I'm amused though by people who say they liked President Bush until his last 2 years in office, as if that's when he started spending because of the Democrat majority. His deficit was due to a combination of multiple tax cuts and 2 wars, not new government programs from the Dems that suddenly appeared in 2 years (he would've vetoed them anyway). Most of these people also criticize Obama for not going forward with the missile defense, while knowing little on actual facts, even though this system was going to cost tens of billions and not really provide much benefit. Many (still) criticize him for wanting to take troops out of Iraq as if we had the ability to leave them there indefinitely. He did jack up the spending on the military in general, he did bail out the health insurance industry with the trillion dollar Medicare expansion in 2003, he did spend an enormous amount of money buiding up the "Homeland security" apparatus.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) Problem is, this attitude means you leave zero room for independents to be part of the process. I'm not sure Joe Lieberman counts as an independent...he seems like he does whatever benefits his party the most. (Note, his party in the last election was CT for Lieberman).

Something to consider on the potential trade front.

Before I clean this thread up, I'd just like to post a reminder to keep it civil. Personal attacks will not be tolerated. -
QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) So....a team struggles offensively, the hitting coach, one of the best in baseball, has to be held accountable....hmmmm....that's interesting....what an interesting philosophy.... End result? A worse hitting coach is brought in, and the team struggles more?

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) He's a weasel who ought to be booted from the caucus, IMHO. He most definitely doesn't deserve to have the gavel in a committee. That should be given to Democrats who run as Democrats. I wouldn't have a problem with him keeping a gavel...if they were willing to use taking away his gavel as a means to keep him in line on things like health care or cap and trade. So far, they've shown zero urge to do that. The only check on him is going to be the defeat he's going to take in 2012.

Depends on how much you do.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) This is a myth that people get carried away with. He's a reliable liberal vote on everything except when it comes to wars/Israel. Which is why he's opposing the public option.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Unless a party can somehow get lockstep AND have a 60% majoority in a chamber, but honestly, I think that is nearly impossible to do at the national level. Just a note again...the 60% majority for every vote continues to be a very young, newly imposed standard.

Random other gam4e suggestions will not kill this thread.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) And if you truly believe in your party's ideals and platform, you want that lock step voting. You know there are Dem party officios who dream of having that control over their membership. If the leadership really wanted it, they could try to enforce it a lot harder (see previous post).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) It is true, but not black and white. The Dems are most definitely more inclusive and allow a broader umbrella, I don't see how that's not clear. But even they have a limit. This is one of the defining qualities of the two parties right now - the Dems are more inclusive but als more disorganized, the GOP is much more lock-step. There are actually reasons why this happens in the Senate and Lieberman/Collins is an excellent example in fact. Lieberman went to the RNC last year, campaigned openly for McCain, and against the Dem ticket. When the Dems considered taking away his chairmanship as punishment, the media went up in arms in defense of their 2nd favorite son against the hideous angry left, and Lieberman kept his gavel. Collins on the other hand may well lose her seniority on a committee or two over this vote and the stimulus vote when the next reorganization happens (she's next in line to be the ranking member on at least 1 committee). The Dems aren't even willing to enforce party unity when a guy speaks at the other party's national convention against their Presidential candidate, and the Republicans are willing to enforce it over major votes.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) Back... like 200 years ago, prior to the invention of the "Cow Plow" aka the CowCatcher, you would have to stop a train and get the cow off the tracks... assuming he wanted to be moved... which Steele does not. Then in 1838, Charles Babbage invented the CowCatcher. This allowed a train to basically push the cow off the tracks instead of stopping. often... it would probably kill the cow. That Steak would be so ridiculously tender...

Windows 7 will sponsor a commercial free evening on Fox on November 8th. That's Sunday night, which means they're handing it over to Seth MacFarlane. This could be interesting or awful.
