Nice to see Big Jim back. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Giant corporate bailouts are the hallmark of a proletariat revolution. To be fair, most of those were done by his predecessor, and he did nationalize a good chunk of the means of production.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Nice. How's JD been hitting recently? Slowly waking up. .333 average, .815 OPS for his last 7 days. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) You oversimplified it about as far as you could possibly go though. Saying progressive taxation = Marxism is like saying that because I was in the military and so was Bush that I should be president. You mean Bush 41 I hope? Cause 43...well...ya know...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) My company is very tight with information going out on the intewebs about my work, and I don't want to get fired, so... I'll just say I work in financial technology. So you're the dude who runs GS's high speed trading thing?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Look at my first post. I am doing nothing of the sort. I pointed out both extremes and suggested that the reality probbaly lies in the middle. Let me refresh your memory. No, in this quote you ascribe motivations to ridge pretty clearly. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) So you are that willing to take as gospel the ad copy thrown out by a publisher in order to promote interest in a book? Man, I have a bridge to sell you? What if the book comes out and by 'pressured' he means they asked and he said no and that was it? Ooohhh, that's alot of pressure there. I don't doubt that they could have done it, but I don't assume that they did either.

I doubt that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) So in other words you are for increasing health care costs to those who can't afford it. Bankruptcy isn't cheap.

All right, stop using Xanax. That's twice in a row.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) And if they wanted the alert level raised because they truely believe it to be needed, that doesnt change things to you? With Dems, it s always about the intentions, they meant well, they meant to do the right thing. If they looked at the info and thought they saw a valid threat, they would be remiss in their duties to not try and raise the level. ONly they know what was going on in their heads, yet you proscribe to have inside knowledge of their intentions and have damned them so. Bravo for you. It's also worth noting that you're assuming you know Ridge's intentions; money. You're not necessarily wrong, but you're doing the exact same thing you're criticizing.

THis is probably just a function of the "Out of the labor force/long term unemployed" ranks continuing to grow.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Dude, remember that guy's head falling off when he robbed that homer?

My problem with all these folks and the horrible things they want to say to clear their conscience continues to be...if this was going on, and you saw it was a problem at the time, why didn't you either come forward with it at the time, when something could have been done (i.e. pre-2004-election) or just outright resign in protest?

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors

QUOTE (farmuk @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:22 AM) I think the Sox should let Josh go for HIS sake. I'm glad they moved him down because he was not helping the team but he did kind of get the shaft after being very successful two years ago just to be rewarded with a sending down then. He just might be one of those guys that a change of organization is the making of him. Welcome to the site. I'd say it's very, very likely that Josh gets moved this offseason. Disappointing because of all the potential that we'll be failing to harvest, but really, he's not taking 3b away from Beckham and we're very unlikely to move any out of Getz, Nix, or Ramirez this offseason. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 07:01 AM) He only cares about keeping U.S. CEOs salaries high and not ones from Japan. Japanese CEO's already earn much less than ours.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Sigh, one of my "friends" on Facebook made a status saying that calling Obama a Nazi is valid because national socialism = socialism so I have to explain to her that you really couldn't get much farther apart, and also throwing out the "Nazi" card immediately flags you as someone who nobody is going to take seriously. I feel like I'm telling someone that the moon isn't the sun. Here's what you need to do. Point out to her that the first enemy the National Socialists went after were the Communists. They were the main rivals in 1933, they were the ones that the National Socialists used the Reichstag fire to go after. Therefore, since everything the national socialists did was evil, her only real option is to go join the American Communist party. It's the only way that she can effectively stop Obama's campaign of National Socialism. It's the old "Crisatunity" situation. Oh, they hated Unions too. She should go join/found a couple unions.

Based on the past year, I would rather trust the government with my bank account than a bank with my bank account.

Well, I think it's time to change the subject. Prescription drugs anyone?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) ? All I'm saying is he's a flyball pitcher and check his splits. I offered perhaps one explanation for it. Consdering how everyone frets about a guy like Peavy coming to a "hitter's park", maybe checking White Sox pitchers splits might change an opinion. The fact is Floyd is an excellent pitcher at home, and pretty mediocre on the road. 2.38 vs 5.38. That's a gigantic difference, especially considering USCF's reputation. There could be one other issue...the fact that Floyd had a terrible opening to the season and didn't get in a groove until June. He pitched mostly on the Road during April and May; he pitched 1 game at home in May, 3 on the road, in those 3 games his ERA was 9. Those number of runs given up will skew your season #'s like mad. In June, his ERA was 1.63 at home and 0.61 on the road. -
Jon Garland has cleared waivers according to FoxSports

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) I don't mind the idea of bringing in a cheap starting pitcher to act as a temporary one-year bridge to Hudson, but I just don't want it to be Garland. Or El-Duque (in case the discussion finds its way back to him). There has to be another starting pitcher available on the market not named those two that could equal their production. Of course, just depends on what you want to gamble on. Erik Bedard, Justin Duchsherer, perhaps someone like Ben Sheets are guys coming off of injuries, there are vets like Mike Hampton and Brad Penny who may earn a little more than that but not terribly much, etc. If you want a stopgap though, it's "Is the guy coming off injury or is he old or did he stink last year".
