  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) I didn't check the lineups before the game...but curious as to why Pablo in the 6 hole? Glad his was this inning and all....just seems strange. Just plugged in for Joe? Ozzie ran out of scorecards and used last nights? :::Looks around, grabs Wanne, takes him out back, 3 gunshots ring out...walks back in:::
  2. Anderson will either homer or k here.
  3. Ohhh, CC, with the hat, I'm so scared.
  4. Communists can't hit right handers. Don't you know even teh simplest facts?
  5. Good lord, Jhonny Peralta and his .752 OPS are batting cleanup for the Indians tonight. I don't care who's on the mound, losing to an offense set up like that is rough.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) correct. It's just a matter of driving down the costs to build and install. The new trend is to rent / lease solar from a company. They come out and install the solar panel then charge you base don your power use. Kind of like a electric company. It's a much cheaper instal than a ownership model. My university is actually doing just that, they're currently installing the largest set of solar panels in Pasadena on top of one of their parking garages, hoping to pull about 10% of their total electric usage from solar gathered on top of their own buildings within a few years, and the solar power will cost them less per watt than what they were getting from the city fossil fuel grid.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Donald Sterling will have to possibly pay the luxury tax as the Golden State Warriors have now offered Brand a max contract (which will pay him more than the Clippers offer). With the room for revenue growth available to the Clippers by putting together a playoff team out here and suddenly being able to sell out games, I think it makes sense that he would risk it.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) Let's see, combine that with Tort law, and you have yourself a class of folks who will become extinct. But that's ok, because they're rich, and those bastards need to be poor. Distribution of wealth, the cap way. You know, there was a time when I think "Oh look, bureaucracy, that's going to cost a lot of money and be scary!" might have worked. Like, any time we had a functioning health care system in this country. But I for one think that when I can point to a slightly scarier video of a person dying while stuck waiting in line for the emergency room, the fear of the government running things might not win out in this match.
  9. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I belive Limbaugh gets a $100 million signing bonus. How much does that count against the cap?
  10. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) A few days ago there were 67 preferred securities trading with 9+% yields. Three days later? The number is 101. KeyCorp is trading north of 13%. Fasten your seatbelts! Gesundheit.
  11. Got one to outsource to Nate Silver...
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) If all it takes is the MLE, I think the Bulls would be stupid not to go after Magette. But knowing Pax, he'll sit on his hands like always. If I'm Corey Maggette, do I look at a back court of Rose, Gordon, Hinrich, Hughes, Sefalosha, and a front court of Nocioni and Deng and say "There's a lot of minutes available there and I'm almost guaranteed a starting job"?
  13. Doesn't Cleveland have to face that Contreras fellow? When he's on he's as nasty as any pitcher in baseball. It's time to stop being afraid of other teams' pitchers or hitters and realize...the rest of the league should have a hell of a lot to fear from us. John Danks shouldn't fear Cliff Lee and Rich Harden, Rich Harden and Cliff Lee should fear John Danks. The Sox shouldn't fear Captain Cheeseburger, Captain Cheeseburger should be afraid that his hot streak is running in to Swisher's Slam streak. And Q's just better than them all anyway.
  14. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) If we're talking about him as a late season alternative to limit the innings for Danks or Floyd in September that's one thing, it's another to say we should take Javy out of the rotation for him in the unlikely event that he's healthy. He's 3 seasons removed from being a significantly more effective pitcher than Vasquez now, it's really not the same guy. Frankly, I'm much, much less worried about Gavin Floyd's workload this year than I am Danksy's. Gavin's thrown 170 and 176 innings the last 2 years between the minors and the big leagues, and he's 2 years older than Danks so his arm has been seeing solid workloads for a while now. There's no reason why we need to plan to give him time off like we ought to do for Danks. We'd actually be pretty smart if we tried to push Floyd to get around 200 innings this year, because if we can get him to that point this year then it's entirely possible we'll have his arm readily conditioned to be one of those classic 200 inning per year guys for the next few years.
  15. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 07:58 AM) Isn't the Fairness Doctrine unconstitutional? To answer this question seriously...it's probably would pass Constitutional muster pretty easily, because the right to broadcast over the airwaves is something controlled by Congress through its ability to regulate interstate commerce. The FCC and Congress are constantly taking steps to regulate the content sent out over those airwaves because they're broadcast freely to everyone. That's why they're able to say that you can't broadcast, oh, let's say about 7 words, you can't place nudity on the public airwaves, you can't do other things termed "Indecent" because although the government can't place limits on your ability to open up a blog and rant about something, they can place limits on what goes out over airwaves they control, and there's no reason to expect that they couldn't limit the content however they wanted. Ok, now resume humorous posting.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) Electricity production still causes pollution. Nuclear waste. That's assuming you only listen to John McCain, and not to all the people who are out there saying that concentrated solar/solar thermal electricity can work if we put the money in to it to build the plants and delivery systems.
  17. Ok, now's the time to bring back the fairness doctrine
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) I still don't understand what the hell web 2.0 ended up being. Simple phrase. "User generated content". At least that's what it means to me.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) Poor Danks. He gets Cliff Lee tonight and his next start is against Harden. Yeesh. Poor Cliff Lee and Rich Harden. They're facing a bloody buzzsaw.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) So cut spending. Could the government afford it if we pulled out of Iraq? Here's an interesting little fact also...our government spends more on Medicare per person in the U.S. than quite a few European countries spend per person on their full national health care systems, and Medicare for us only covers the elderly.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) Hmmmm. Interesting question you pose here. Which will end up being worse? Bush's Presidency, or crappy journalism? I could see some good arguments either way. This is almost worthy of a seperate thread and discussion. The problem is, it's a chicken and egg problem. We'd never be having to ask this question if crappy journalists hadn't decided that which candidate you'd like to have a beer with was a valid way of deciding who should occupy the most powerful position in the world, but his time in office has surely helped enhance the worst of those tendencies (i.e. the invasion of Iraq)
  22. Davis Mobley/Gordon Kaman Thornton Brand Not a bad starting 5 there.
  23. SI's Verducci has the omnipotent being we have patrolling LF at the top of his MVP list for the first half.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Gallardo tore his ACL And Vazquez is far and away a superior pitcher to Garcia, but if you didn't expect that from me, you don't know me. Here's the link to the story i'm talking about.
