  1. You're not being unfair, this collapse by Cesar was unexpected and either it needs to end or we should look for a different option next year (and ask a few questions of the people who scouted him before the trade too).
  2. Well, at the very least we know you can never use "I was young and stupid" as an excuse for something you did when you were 23. Leury was a -1.9 fWAR player in his age 22-24 seasons. For age 26-30, he's been worth 4.2 fWAR - just under 1 fWAR a season counting 2020. I would submit that what he did in 2013-2015 isn't all that relevant to right now.
  3. Isn't a 2 win player an "average starter"? https://library.fangraphs.com/misc/war/ I'm certainly not opposed to an upgrade at that position, but if Cesar is a 2 WAR player for $6 million next year, that's fine by me. No team outside of the Dodgers is going to be built without guys like that. The problem right now is that Cesar has not played up to a "average starter" level over the last month, and if that continues - then there are better options. Leury has absolutely played at a "role player" level over the past 3 seasons.
  4. Did you just compare what one player did in 1 month to what another player has done in 5 months?
  5. No, you're saying you're the arbiter of which numbers should be trusted and what is objective.
  6. Yes. But worth adding that the QO rules are almost certainly going to be rewritten again, so who knows what it does.

Well, the law in the US recognizes those standards pretty heavily, so you'd have literally years of work writing new laws and decades of work updating the land use surveys if you tried to change those standards. By that point, whatever the climate is that we've got today, it's likely we'll have dramatically shifted it even more.
  8. I have no idea what Scott Boras's side will do, and that might be exactly what he signs for, and there's a half dozen major factors in play over the next 3 months that will influence the final number...but if I were Carlos Rodon, that's the one contract structure I wouldn't sign. If I am signing a multi-year guaranteed deal, I'd want to get into Wheeler's range before I started thinking about that. If the CBA doesn't demolish them, I can't see how that's a terrible gamble for a team like the Yankees, they've spent way worse than that on pitching the last couple years anyway. At least Rodon has TOR ceiling. Remember with Wheeler specifically, people were talking about $75-$80 million as being fair for him late in the previous season, and then the actual FA market was way higher. If I can't get into that range, I'll try to sign something like a Bauer deal, with a big salary in one season and quick ways out right afterwards.
  9. Um, 2 links included to AOL webmail?
  10. Any of those guys would be plausible, and maybe available for Cesars money or less. But I’m not going to rule out a bigger name on a surprising contract with all the things we don’t know. A World Series loss to the Dodgers would generate a lot of revenue to work with. What will they do with Kimbrel’s deal? Can Lopez keep this up or do they need a 5th starter to open next year? What will the CBA look like and will that push more teams to spend on guys like the ones you listed? All I will guess is that Cesar isn’t currently earning that option.
  11. If Cesars next month+ is as bad as his August then yeah I can’t see how you pick that option up.
  12. Bah, you gotta have at least 2 backup infielders available, even more helpful if one has minor league options, and we aren’t sure who will be starting at 2b yet.
  13. I know the aging curve isn’t the same since they got the steroids out of the game, but his 26 and under seasons being described as his best years still doesn’t sound quite right to me.
  14. Damn when I started this thread I though the Dodgers had zero chance of overcoming that lead.
  15. In his last 13 games before he was sent down, he hit .200 with a .538 OPS, so there were some struggles at the time.
  16. So if Hendriks is coming in now Kimbrel gets the 9th right?

So the remnants of this are bringin some stuff. This is the first time that alert has ever been issued across a population this large. Previous record for 1 hour of rain at Central Park was just under 2 inches and they just got 3.15 in an hour. Some areas in New Jersey got over 7 in a couple hours and not done yet. Streets, subway stations, Yankee Stadium, Newark airport flooding.
