  1. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) I think the Sox will (and should) be more worried about giving Thome some days off (especially vs. lefties), since he's more important to our lineup than Dye. Thome being in our lineup vs. not being in there is like night and day, and we absolutely must keep him healthy if we want to have any chance for success in 2008. The correct way to do exactly that, and to rest both Dye and Thome...is to DH Dye for a few days and put Quentin in RF for those days.
  2. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) I agree with you. That's what I would do. But all the way back to SoxFest, we've been hearing how KW/Ozzie did not want to be moving Swisher around in the outfield. And so let's assume BA plays center... When Quentin plays, what happens? Brian comes out and Swisher moves from left to center? Just trying to figure out how Anderson and Quentin are both going to get playing time... and how it affects where we play Swisher. IMO, Brian is by far our best CF. If he's hitting, play him every day, or use Ramirez if he needs a break. If you want to work Quentin in, use the DH slot and give Dye some extra rest.
  3. I don't think it's been noted yet, but Hillary's other excuse for the mis-speaking was that she was "Sleep deprived". So, if you make those kind of errors when you're sleep deprived, do we want you answering the phone at 3:00 a.m.?
  4. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 06:54 PM) So, with Owens out... who's going to play CF? Swisher or Anderson? It makes the most sense to put Swisher in left and Anderson in CF, but not sure that's how Ozzie will play it. I could see him playing Swisher in CF, and alternating Anderson/Quentin in left. Otherwise he's going to be alternating Swisher between left and center depending on whether Anderson or Quentin is playing. I'm thinking he'll want to keep Swisher in one spot rather than move him around in the outfield. It would be absolute insanity to play Swisher in CF over Anderson. Totally nuts. If Anderson is playing you put him in CF.
  5. QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) I feel like I haven't heard nearly as much about Quentin this spring as Anderson and Owens. What's going on with him? Quentin hasn't gotten a ton of AB's this spring because he's still trying to rebuild strength in his shoulder. He started off slowly but has improved significantly in the last week or so.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) Bad link. That's because his post is a month old.
  7. Another Antarctic Peninsula ice shelf is going.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) By Mark Gonzales - 5:56 p.m. TUCSON, Ariz. -- White Sox center fielder Jerry Owens will start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, after an MRI Tuesday revealed a slight tear in his right adductor muscle. The rest of the blog said he aggravated it running out the triple on Sunday. He did seem gimpy after that. One less toy for Ozzie. Does that sound like something he might need surgery to correct or is that re-hab-able?
  9. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Funny that Mark would openly state his preference for Crede at 3B. Would you expect MB to be the kind of guy who would throw a teammate of his for 5+ years under the bus because of a surgery?
  10. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) I never let Bush off the hook. I just think he has had a horrible cabinet. And it's a cabinet he choose. And it's a cabinet he stuck by. It's a cabinet he doesn't fire people from. It's a cabinet where Rumsfeld tried to resign repeatedly and Bush wouldn't let him.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) It would be a joke if Ramirez started in CF over Anderson. He will.
  12. Just watch. Alexei will be in CF on opening day if Owens is on the DL.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) I remember the rumored trade with Dye to Boston last year for Wily Mo and a pitcher, and I hated that idea. But now since then, I so wish that trade would have happened. We probably never would have traded for Quentin and Swisher if we'd made that deal, and WMP would probably be starting for us in RF this season. Our OF would probably look like ??? in LF, Owens in CF, Pena in RF.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) Mark my words. Within 6 months one of the rovers will become nonoperational. Considering their original lifetime was 90 days...and they landed what, Dec/Jan of 03/04, it wouldn't be surprising at all. The work they've done so far though has been quite impressive.
  15. A little bit of relief...I think. Still nervous that this even came up.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) Honest question here... Has there been a President since Nixon who actually owned up to doing something (big) stupid or illegal? President Obama has admitted drug use in his past...
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Clinton keeping Reverend Wright in the headlines. I find it funny that Mike Huckabee defended Obama but Clinton keeps trying to drag him through the mud. Well, there's another potential way to look at the pastor/Huckabee issue...specifically, Huckabee still appears to have ambitions within that party and could easily be setting himself up for a VP slot or a run in 2012 or a run for some other position, and he is a former preacher himself...who by the way never released more than a few of his sermons from his time as a pastor.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) I'd give Paxson one more year. He saw what happens when you're reluctant to trade players, even for Kobe who's a bonafide top 5 player ever. If you believe at all the multiple reports, including at least one directly from Paxson's mouth, Kobe Bryant was never available. The Lakers talked about him because they wanted to placate Kobe, but unless Kobe held out, they were NEVER going to trade him.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) I didn't watch it, but I'm not surprised they were made out to be the idiots of the group. If Bush could have a redo, I would think, or at least hope he wouldn't put some of his dad's cabinat into his administration. Why is it that people constantly let Mr. Bush off the hook. "Oh, it was just Cheney and Rumsfeld, if Bush had it to do over again he'd know better". The dude still to this day defends the Iraq war as practically the greatest decision he ever made, at every opportunity to pull back he chooses to escalate the conflict, I haven't seen a shred of evidence that would convince me that if Bush had it to do over again, he'd be more open, more practical, or more dovish. He got the war he wanted with the people he wanted leading it.
  20. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Why Minny? They have a dome. Plus the Sox open in Cleveland. Apparently, the study matters bupkis. Also, I don't care if the players and owners want to play on an iceberg in February, I just won't be there in person until it's about 60 degrees out. Because...in about a year or two, Minnesota is opening a fancy new open air stadium.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Yes, that's right. In order to fix the mortgage mess, we ought to turn to people like Alan "Yes, here, take out this ARM...yes...yessss" Greenspan and Robert Rubin of Citi "as big of a part of the problem as anyone" Group. Somehow, I just can't see that as being a great idea. Oh joy, just what we need. A candidate who challenges John McCain on who knows less about what they're saying on the economy.
  22. Sam Smith chimes in on who the Bulls may be looking @.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) And if he can hit .360 during the course of the year, that'd be amazing; that's why his OPS is over .800, not because he's hitting with much power. If you hit .360, that generally means more balls are finding the gap than normal, and you are going to get more extra bases out of it. Whoop-dee-s***. I'd bet about everything I'm worth that he's not going to hit .360 during the season seeing as how only 3 players in the AL have done so over the past 10 years. Asking for or expecting Owens to hit in that area is pretty crazy unless he's become a much better bunter than we've seen so far. I think that personally, for Owens to be effective, I want to see him pretty much put up numbers similar to Podsednik in 05. Hardly any home runs, but keeps his average around .300, keeping that OBP at about .350 or above, and on pace for about 70 or so steals at a high percentage. If he could put up those numbers, he won't be the greatest player in MLB, but he'd be pretty darn effective at what he was doing and it would make our team better. The more he drops below those numbers, the less playing time he deserves.
