  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) I could see some sort of platoon arrangement at SS that would allow Uribe to shift between 2b, SS and 3b for 2008. That would make some amount of sense...if we were to find a Left Hand hitting SS, esp. a young one. Right now, the only guy who would make sense as a "Platoon" guy would be Richar, who's a lefty and who fits with Uribe in that fashion. Both Crede and Fields are Righties, so as it stands now, either way we have 2 better right handed hitting 3rd basemen. Uribe has played CF before, so he actually isn't the worst idea as being able to back up that spot also if he's in shape (if it's given to Owens, who's also a lefty). I'd probably rather have him than Erstad for that reason. But when it comes right down to it...we already have Pablo, who, depending on recovery, is a decent hitting, RH backup who covers 3rd, SS, 2nd, and a couple OF spots, although he's not particularly good at any of them. Uribe would be better defensively at most of those positions...but the questions are...how many roster spots do you want to give up for RH backup utility guys, and do you want to pay $5 million for one of those?
  2. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Why? Which recruit did we "steal" from your team? Haha, can't wait til San Antonio!!! Well, the way our coach keeps acting...right now I'm not sure I can blame him.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) Still, if they could get him to agree to a 3 yr deal at like 6 mill a year I'd do it. Right now, this wouldn't be a terrible idea for either side. Joe'd get some insurance for in case his back goes out again, and the Sox would get a chance to gamble on having Joe locked up for a reasonable amount for 3 more years. But, due entirely to Joe's agent, it won't happen.
  4. If Pablo is back next year, I really don't see why we need a backup 2nd baseman. At least give me someone who can play more than one position. We can't use up every roster spot we have by trying to set up a platoon for every young guy we're trying to develop. If you want to do that, at least give me guys who can back up several IF slots, not a guy who has played 9 games away from 2nd base in his career.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) I still think Vizquel can give you a .330-.350 OBP and excellent defense from down lower in the order for about $2M. Only put up a .305 OBP last year.
  6. QUOTE(PHAT ALBERT @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Trade Joe ASAP. Let Field man 3B for the next five years, annually putting up higher HR and OPS figures than Crede will between 2008-2012 but, granted, not getting to a couple of balls a month that Joe would have. Right now, if we traded Joe, we'd be getting back at best either some washed up prospect another team is looking to dump or an overpaid guy who's salary a team is looking to shed. It makes very little sense to move Mr. Crede right now for either of those options, unless you have a really, really good fit in that salary dump guy. If Joe could come out healthy next season for at least a month, his value could rapidly increase.

    i am drunk

I would like to add to this thread that I am a really big fan of beer right now. Especially good beer. I'm in a good mood.
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) any chance the Dodgers decide to keep Furcal and trade Hu? I doubt it, but I have a man crush on Hu. I think there's a non-trivial chance of that. The Dodgers clearly need another starter, and I think they'll do what it takes to find one this year with their money. Unless they hit on Silva or Schilling, I don't see anyone who obviously solves their problems other than a trade, and if Hu is ready, they may have to pick which guy to move. The only question is how high they are on Hu, and what you're willing to give up. Personally, I think it's more likely they'll try to move Furcal, but seriously, who knows how Coletti feels about each guy. He comes from that Sabean system where they've moved most of their young guys to try to get to the top, and Hu isn't nearly as highly ranked as guys like Kemp or Ethier...guys who they've picked up veteran FA's who block them.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) Liberals own the media and conservatives have never figured out how to get a foothold. George W. Bush and the Iraq war say hi.
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 06:36 PM) Well, if there are better SS trade options in the offseason, I'd have no problem with that. Perhaps we could take a flyer on Clint Barmes. If you are willing to trade Jon Garland...and with his FA status and contract it'd be insane not to be willing to do that, then you have several SS options available, depending on where guys end up. Even if all you're willing to move is Contreras, Bill Hall might still make sense. There have to be better options out there. Garland straight up for Furcal or Renteria is literally the Sox taking less value than Jon is worth in order to fill that hole, and either of those guys would cover that need.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) If that state were any more boring, it would be Nebraska i win I discovered a Jimmy Johns on my way through there. That gave them some points in my book.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Uribe will be back. There's really no one out there much better or as young. ARod's merely the fevered dream of a midlevel franchise. Jon Garland would be a better shortstop. Assuming that is you're smart enough to trade Jon Garland for a better shortstop. And if you're dealing pitching...better shortstops should and will be available.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) Posting crap in the filibuster? It's called multitasking.
  14. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Fine, but it is handled differently because of party affiliation, liked or not. (that was meant to have an element of humor to it)
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) It's always ALWAYS different. A (D) says it, it's passed over, a ® says it, it's front page NYT specials. It's different this time too. You know why? Because no one likes Biden anyway.
  16. LOL, Fox actually used "Hate to say I told you so" during their brief little montage of the Sox's season that they played in the 8th inning.
  17. Stephen's Facebook group becomes the first of the "Campaign" groups to top 1 million members. In about a week.
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) It might be DVD night tonight. I haven't watched the games since they happened. What do you think I'm doing right now?
  19. "That's up the middle and the White Sox take the lead"!
  20. Maybe I should just make a new thread for everything I post...no one ever catches the ones I slip into the Dems only thread...
  21. You just can't help but laugh at this one.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 07:35 AM) The Sodfather strikes again. Theres really not much he can do with that awful field. I wouldn't underestimate Roger.
  23. In my lifetime...I only really remember the Loma Prieta series on...I'll give you 1991 ("and we'll see you tomorrow night!") and 2001.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) Is there any chance at all for Brian Anderson in the White Sox system? I still think it's stupid to write him off, esp. if we're expecting Fields to start in LF this season...eventually he will be moving back to 3rd, and we're going to need 1 more OF. He clearly can't be just "Given" a starting role this year, but if either he or Sweeney comes out hot next April, maybe you do consider moving Crede next year. Of course, what I'd consider to be stupid to do based on talent might be something the team decides to do totally on attitude alone. I hope though that they at least consider what he does during winterball and the fact that he's going there voluntarily before writing him off totally.
