Can I resume calling for Mike Davis's job now? -
Great...just what that stadium needs...something else on the roof for the wind to tear off....

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) And has any pitcher fizzled out as quickly as Shingo after a great season? Billy Koch?

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:52 AM) Yeah, expect another 40 HR and 100 RBI from that Dodgers/Reds castoff. Good to see some love though. What a difference a year, and a World Series championship can make. With an OBP guy like Thome in front of him instead of Everett, and a guy who can spell PK at 1st base every now and then...I wouldn't be surprised if PK drove in 120+, especially if somehow he avoids his season-starting-slump that he had last year. -
If Timo doesn't get the chance to hit against Radke and the Twins last year...I'd hate to see his total average. He hit .308 against the Twins pitching staff. 8 of his 39 hits came off of Twins pitching.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) 100 percent correct, however I am VERY concerned that Ozzie will stick with Borch too long (ie Timo Perez) and leave Owens in the minors. As long as Borchard doesn't spend a month leading off... Seriously...even if he only hits .220 or so like Timo did last year, he'll probalby put up 5-10 home runs, as opposed to 1 for Timo. It won't hurt us too badly to use him as a backup outfielder. He simply cannot be worse than Timo...and if somehow he turns out to be, then it won't cost us that much to trade for an outfielder who can hit .220.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:15 AM) I'm more concerned about health and any changes to his off season routine that may have occured. That may cause a slow start before adjusting to pitchers. And remember, they have to adjust to him as well. I'll take a HoF hitter adfjusting faster than a run of the mill 3-4-5 starter. If Thome is Healthy...I expect him to put up very good numbers. Aside from last year, he put up very good, consistent numbers for the last 10 years or so. The only real question I have with him is health, and I'm hoping being a DH will be a good solution to that. If he's healthy, I'm fully expecting 40 HR, and if he doesn't hit that while healthy, I will probably be disappointed.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) Huge internet, millions and millions of sites, and we just hang out here It's so shockingly much less painful than dealing with my personal life right now.

Every part of that lineup will probably move around a lil' bit this season except for hopefully Pods, Thome, and Konerko. I do wonder why you want Crede hitting behind BA and in front of Pods though. Less pressure? I dunno, but Pods just isn't good protection for a batter no matter what.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) Damn that quadratic formula. You would be amazed how often I still run into that damn thing.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) Interestingly enough, as the Bulls came dangerously close to blowing this game, Chandler was doing NOTHING...according to both the naked eye and stat sheet. Tyson however had a couple of BIG rebounds as the Bulls had a mini run to put it away late. Bulls by 11 with 47 seconds left, on their way to ANOTHER win. Good to see them playing better, and should be interesting to see how this upcoming road trip goes. Didn't Tyson get into a bit of foul trouble in quarter 3, causing Skiles to sit him down for a while when the Hawks started that run? He spent a long time on the bench in the 2nd half, which is why he didn't score much more. Plus there were quite a few guys just chucking up shots and missing from the outside when it started getting close.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) I doubt it. A player is only eligible for RotY if he has spent less than 45 days on the major league roster. That is correct. As it stands right now, neither Jenks nor McCarthy (nor Borchard for that matter if he makes the roster) are ROY eligible next year. BA is. Tracy is if he makes the roster...ditto basically anyone else from our minors who does.

Man, there's no other option other than Yes or No? Half of me despises the death penalty, for 2 reasons. 1...it is clearly not administered fairly under many, many circumstances. Race is clearly a gigantic factor. Economics and ability to afford quality legal respresentation are others. The odds are, quite simply, that somewhere in this country, probably Texas, several people who were actually innocent have been executed, just based on the sheer number of people released from death row after having convictions overturned. Secondly...all evidence suggests it simply is NOT a deterrant. States with it simply do not, on average, see major decreases in crime due to its presence. You can cite a few places where it is associated with drops, but you can cite instances where it is associated with increases. As a deterrant I don't believe it works at all. On the other hand...first, there is some level of closure involved for many families when the death penalty is administered. That should be an important factor...it is not the case for every family, but it is for enough families that it should be considered. And secondly...if I were to truly say I were anti-death-penalty, I should be able to look at every single case and say the death penalty isn't warranted. Put Bin Laden in our jails after a fair trial and clear guilty verdict...and I simply cannot say that. If I cannot say that, I cannot say I oppose the death penalty. So I guess my answer is a very guilty feeling yes, if I have to give one. But I really hate the fact that the system is so broken in this country that I feel terrible in that answer. And y'all can call me "Brian".

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) Tyson with 10/9 @ the half. f***. Yes. Dude missed 1 shot from the floor in the 1st half. Had some damn nice looking dunks too. Throw in 2 assists too. Hinrich's having a damn good half too, but I think we're all noticing that the key to this team winning is Tyson. He keeps doing this and they look like a playoff team. This is what, his 4th good game in a row? By the way...it's nice when WGN actually carries these games out here.

Uber-Attention Whore Sheehan to run for Senate
Balta1701 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) I dont want her to win.........just siphon off enough votes to get a Republican in there. I was talking about her actually winning a primary race, or screwing us up in our efforts to remove another person in a primary. She won't win in a general...and even if she ran in a general, Di-Fi's support out here is so vastly strong that the Repubs still wouldn't have a chance. -

Balta1701 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
LOL...at least she's picking a seat that she won't have a prayer in Hell of winning. I'm glad she's not challenging Liebermann and screwing us up on that one, or running for a seat where we actaully have a pickup chance. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) (Hopefully I was accurate to put that in green). But yeah, Farmer basically sold out Rooney and took the cheap-o deal so he can do the pbp all 9 innings, or that's surely what it looks like from a distance. Is it possible that Farmer actually took less money to try to make it easier for the Score to pay Rooney, and Farmer's mad that JR left?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Yah. And if he thought Marte could have been a definite star in the league, he would have gotten a stopgap. Obviously both Schuerholz and Epstein thought Marte was expendable for good, but not great players. There is a reason for that. Especially considering that Schuerholz has no probablem with letting young guys play. I think the Renteria move was a damn good one on Schuerholz's part. They got Chipper Jones to reduce his yearly salary total in exchange for an extra guaranteed year to save them money. Then they traded a top prospect not just for Renteria, but for Renteria AND CASH, in classic KW style. But they needed a place to put Chipper, and he's always been at his best when he plays 3rd. They have a ton of outfield talent, and it's all very young. Francoeur, Langerhans, Johnson, and Mr. 50 home runs Jones. They are stacked in the outfield and had to move someone, so they moved one of their guys for cash and a player. I think it'll wind up being a great move for them, especially since it frees up their outfield for more youth.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) I like the deal for them as well. Crisp is a great offensive CF, but he sucks defensively at CF. His arm is a noodle. The Indians got Marte, a backup catcher, a decent RP when healthy and a OF who gets on-base at a great clip while giving up a decent OF, a nice RP, a bad backup C and a another bad RP. The indians were trading from a position of strength and Boston was trading from a position of desperation. The Indians would have to be fools to come up with a deal that people didn't think they came out of in good shape. It's the same deal as KW with Contreras...they didn't need to trade Crisp, so Boston had to do something to make it worth doing the deal for Cleveland. And hell, Boston had a wet noodle for an arm in CF last year and got by. This trade probably saves them money that they can spend next year since Crisp only made the minimum last year...he's younger than Damon so he'll probably wind up being healthier, and Boston doesn't have to worry about his range decreasing as his legs get older. All they need is for him to put up numbers like he did last year, and they'll be all right. They have a good enough offense that they can live with an extra ball or two falling in the outfield, as long as they have a good bat there and find a way to make Ramirez stop the trade requests.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Vegas Rays? When you have a team that's the 2nd or 3rd most profitable in baseball every year, why the Hell would you move it? In Vegas there might be more pressure to win. Besides, somehow I get the feeling we'll be seeing the Vegas Marlins first.

I think this kid's going to make a legit run at the ROY award this year.

Konerko was, before last october, the most underrated guy with 40+ home runs 2 years in a row IMO. If he's overrated...it's only because his october was THAT DAMN GOOD. And he gets a nice shiny ring out of it.
