QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) I know others around here feel differently, but I am a firm believer in actions over words. Bush being nationalist after 9/11 is really moot. I think any president could come off looking good after 9/11 as the whole country was actually willing to unite. All I have to do is imagine Donald Trump in those shoes and I can see a lot more angry violent mobs beating muslims in the streets basically everywhere with the police turning blind eyes.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I expect this to be the most boring offseason since 2012-2013 when basically the only move we did was sign Keppinger. -I'd love to sell high on Avi but kind of doubt the market values him. -I would want the Sox to sign a good pitcher with their value down that they could possibly dish off. I don't think they will do this. I'd think they do some scrap heap type guy and run with the youngins but someone is going to get hurt and with our payroll so low we could afford to gamble on a move that is a better version of the Derek Holland move from last year. Someone like Cobb/Buchholz/Chatwood/Pineda. -What I think the Sox will do and should do is spend big on the bullpen. I think they should put a lot of money into the bullpen. Even if it takes a 3 year deal for a good arm. Past that, let's be active on international free agents for the lineup. This is the perfect year to take a relative risk on a type of move that offers the potential for big surplus value. I still think the first pitcher they grab will be a rule 5 draft acquisition.

QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) It's amazing to me how bad he is at politics. He just couldn't resist taking a shot at Schumer whether it made sense or not. Dude did win an election. Maybe the rules of politics aren't the rules we thought they were.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Talk about recency bias. Bush's admin created a lie to start a war that murdered hundreds of thousand muslism civilians and created the Muslim extremist capital of the world and a complete power vacuum. Trump's cringey rhetoric is in no way worse than Bush's admin's near decade long of international war crimes and illegal war that ushered in an era of perpetual war and unrest in the middle east. I don't agree with how Trump packages his message but there is without a doubt a problem in the middle east and in Russia with Muslim extremism. As of now, we don't have a muslim extremism problem in America. That being said, there is an immigration crisis across the world, largely due to the American military complex, and it's not unreasonable to modify immigration policy to combat this issue. I deliberately said that "one of the only good things I could say about that president" was his response to muslims after 9/11 because, as you note, there are a great many bad things you can say about him. We're talking about sodomizing people with broomsticks because of him.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) Nobody can argue with "everyone knows that". If the cable company doesn't believe that viewers are coming then fine, from the White Sox's side, I will accept a lower yearly dollar guarantee if they give me a much larger slice if viewership does spike. I will take that bet and walk to the bank in 2020.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) I would take Jack Morris vs. John Smoltz 0-0 going into the 10th inning any day of the year over a 13-12 mess of a game. The three games at Dodgers stadium have been handed to the bullpens with 1-1, 1-1, and 1-0 scores in the 6th inning.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) That seemed too ridiculous. Something that is only believable because of the Browns commitment to incompetence. We don't know for sure it was because they were "Celebrating" but a number of places are running the "Browns deal canceled because their papers came in after the deadline" story and I think we can believe that.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Why won't Donald Trump start an endless war like George Bush did? One of the only good things I can say about George Bush as a human being is that after 9/11 he did not blame all muslims and try to inflame people to hate muslims for his own political benefit when he could have. He personally slowed his party's descent into being a party driven first and foremost by racial and religious hatred by years.

QUOTE (FloydBannister1983 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) According to this article only San Diego, Florida, and Oakland had fewer households watching. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/201...m/#5f28eb353799 This is in no small part due to the situation the White Sox management put themselves in - rosters that totally flopped in 2013, 2015, and 2016, and a roster that was rebuilding in 2014 and 2017, 5 straight seasons under .500 and 6 out of 7, at a time when the nearest competition was going to 3 straight postseasons and winning a title. That their ratings were bad now was the downside of their multiple "All-in" campaigns and Rick Hahn's brilliant leadership during that period. If they get somehow a crappy offer with a low yearly guarantee, they could "Star Wars" this thing and say that they'll take a lower guarantee but they would want a higher share of profits if things turned around in exchange. But I don't think that will happen, you could write the "2021 world series White Sox/Braves" script right now and believe it due to Rick Hahn's actual nonsarcastic brilliant moves last year. There are viewers coming and everyone knows that.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) I sort of agree. I will be surprised if he's moved just because I don't see a market, but it's weird Hahn would go out of his way to say Abreu/Garcia are available. I could see that being a "create a market" setup, telling the world he's available, but we've heard here that RH has said similar things in the season ticket holder meetings where he's not playing to the other 29 GMs as much.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) Why has no one mentioned Schwarber... If he were on any other team but the Cubs everyone would want him as our buy low guy. I don't think it's very likely the Cubs trade him and we've got enough guys in our lineup who will need at bats that we really don't have a DH or corner OF spot for him. I'm not giving up anything of value for him with where we're at - talk to me in a year or two if they're closer to letting him go. Even guys like Fulmer have more value to me based on what our organization has. IF we're talking buy-low guys, I would be circling names of pitchers, starters and relievers. We have enough AAAA level guys to fight it out for lineup positions before the thing in RF arrives to take its rightful spot.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Agree 100% with this. Avi Garcia is the one guy they might move and I think they’ll want real value for him. If they can’t get that, they give him until the deadline to prove himself to potential suitors. Also, I fully expect Abreu to sign a four year extension this offseason. I genuinely will be surprised if they don't move Garcia. RH has seemingly talked enough about it, including in the public with the press, that he seems to think Garcia is movable and he'll be able to get the price he wants for him. I don't think Rick would have responded in this way if he thought the chances of moving Garcia were low.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Wow. That seems interesting for a 5-3 team that already lacks in wide receiving depth. Apparently the Panthers' logic is that both Benjamin and Devin Funchess are big, short distance receivers is making it tough for the Panthers to stretch the field when their best 2 receivers are on the field, so they're moving the more expensive one.

Apparently Joc likes hitting Joe.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Agreed. If Brady really intends to play until 45 like he keeps saying and he actually stays healthy they weren't going to be able to keep Garoppolo long term anyways (and Garoppolo would be in his 30s at the time Brady was ready to retire). It does seem like the Pats are going to need to spend a draft pick on a backup QB again this year though.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) Nice, I hope there is more. The NFL has always been lacking on the trade front compared to other sports. And Zeke Elliot's suspension is back on. Maybe. I have no idea what any of the legal mumbo jumbo means. Basically, the short version is: Every court level has a right to rule on this case, all the way up to the US Supreme Court. Every court that gets this case on appeal will do 1 of 2 things: 1. Summarily rule that Elliott has no chance 2. Issue a "Stay" delaying the suspension until they have a chance to rule. Elliott's case is currently at the US District Court Level and he's been turned down at this level. There are 2 higher levels: the Federal Appeals Court and the US Supreme Court. You can expect him to file a motion with the Court of Appeals probably today. They will do 1 of the 2 options listed above. He has a very weak case given how the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement works, so they may rule against him summarily, but most often the court will still hear the case, which would require delaying the suspension until he can fit on their calendar.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 29, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) I think there is an absolute change he makes it up sometime in the summer. I'd rather he start at AA, and end in AAA, but at some point he may force the hand. If he has a strong spring, this is still the White Sox, I could totally see him starting in Charlotte.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Kevin Spacey is the latest to be accused of past sexual assaults, although he is trying the "I'm not a pedophile, I'm just gay" excuse. Netflix apparently just canceled House of Cards.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 28, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) I'm going to be disappointed if he's not a .600 hitter in the major leagues at this point. He doesn't just hit pitchers. He hits their souls.
