There was a belief Machado preferred to be east and especially not be on the West Coast. However recent word in Miami circles has been that he’s going to take whatever the best deal is. #padres
-
No, but obviously they have their limits too. Just a matter of where this thing ends up at.
-
How do we know? It might not even be Hahn, obviously Reinsdorf has his limits.
-
On a tangential note, what sticks in my mind most about Aaron Donald is that leading up to the draft about 90% of pundits and common sense said the Bears would draft him. But once the dagger hit and the Rams unexpectedly picked him before Chicago, there was no value whatsoever in being the favorites. Different situation, but dammit I hope things end favorably in this situation.

Feels like a giant setup to be the bridesmaid

Weird flex, but ok

If someone were to pay me $250mil to play baseball I’d rather live in San Diego/La Jolla/Del Mar than Chicago/Philly/DC. Just sayin
-
It’s not my preference but if he’s balking at the current LT offers why not juice the AAV and make it a shorter deal?
-
Why? He’d maximize his AAV, and get another crack at UFA if salaries balloon higher. It’s a calculated risk. Probably riskier for the Sox.
-
Give Manny a 2y $65mil contract. If all goes well maybe he signs a monster extension. If he stinks we’re not on the hook.
-
All that matters is who suits up for the Sox on opening day. None of the rumors, favorites, or inside information will matter at that point. Just who signed who. Let’s see what happens!
-
If you’ve used it, in a lot of cases you’ll “like” most friends and family’s pictures. I don’t think it’s indicative of anything.

Guys, we’re tracking Instagram likes now?? I change my mind, I don’t want this to end. I’m curious to see the mental state of us all at page 700. Glad we can have fun here!

All the more reason why they need to overpay to make sure they get him
-
It still feels like to me that the Sox have the best offer but Manny/agent don’t want to bite as they’re holding out for more/a diff team. In other words we have to hold out hope that the big guys don’t decide to spend. i still contend that the Sox should overpay to make sure they get him. If they don’t, it’s likely they end up overpaying on a tier of FA’s far below him. Playing for a fair deal is being penny wise and pound foolish IMO

It is cool, better to keep things confidential than to lose sources

We can focus on Bush himself or the overall strategy of trading very high upside players who have yet to generate substatial prospect value. Again, I’d prefer to trade someone with more value today and less upside in the future. Obviously we’re all jaded from tatis!
-
I don’t see why you trade Bush even if Machado is signed. It’s not good practice in general to sell free high upside optionality. Better to trade a higher value today with a very limited ceiling
-
This article on Bush sounds promising, not exactly a low upside player https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.southsidesox.com/platform/amp/2018/8/2/17642278/under-the-radar-bryce-bush-2018-draft-steal

Joc Pederson?
-
These guys are delusional. A “horrible” market for Machado worst case is $175mil, and we know it’s much higher

400 pages of a self help group. Lord help us!

This is a therapy thread, you guys realize that right?

He’d be signed if the Sox (or anyone else) offered 10/300
