  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) Whether you think it was mostly Kenny or whatever, Rick deserves plenty of blame for the mess the Sox found themselves going into this last offseason. He also deserves all the credit for those deals that are hopefully going to help us get out of the mess that he helped put us in. Point is, he can be blamed for what happened before and praised for what he has done since December. I agree, but emphasize it's disingenuous to praise the latter without acknowledging the former.
  2. I am a Rick Hahn fan, but the amount of love he's gotten from fans lately is bordering on the absurd. The reason he was able to get such good prospects back in these trades, is because he dealt a bunch of great players, not because he's great! Maybe he did better than the average GM would have (who knows), but any competent GM could've extracted a lot of value in these trades too. The fact that we had to rebuild with a roster full of valuable players is an indictment on Rick, Kenny, and Jerry. The rebuild is exciting, and I'm very optimistic, but the praise for Hahn is out of control.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) To me, the results don't matter, it's about the process. If the process is good and we lose, we're good. If the process is good and we win and we get a worse draft pick, it's worth it. If the process is bad and we get the #1 pick, we're still in trouble. For example: Moncada's second AB is the only one I was able to see. He drew a walk on a full count. I'm glad he drew the walk, because he continues to show patience and a good process -- forcing the pitcher to throw him what he wants. However, what I DIDN'T like were the two swings he took. Both were offspeed pitches, and were strikes belt high and on the outer half. He clearly recognized them as pitches he wanted to hit, but he tried to pull both of them and was way out in front. Keuchel is a junk slinger and a good one, so it's easy to miss the first one. But between the video prep he should have done, Keuchel's reputation, coaching prep that should have happened, and seeing the pitch earlier in the AB, he needed to be able to stay back and try to poke that second strike into RF. He's still learning, and he's already further along than, say, Dayan Viciedo EVER got in the MLB, so I'm not being a debbie downer. Just an example of the stuff I think we should be "rooting for" and/or "concerned about" aside from draft position. White Sox Dave posted a good blog yesterday pointing out how Moncada has actually sprayed the ball to all fields, and hasn't tried to pull things in general. This is a good sign. He's also swung at less pitches outside the zone than the major league average. For basically his first few months in the big leagues, I think this is good.
  4. I know Bregman had the triple tonight but can't believe they wouldn't give him up for Sale. They'd probably have him if they were willing to give him up. Imagine how tough they'd look.

    Tebow

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) Haha basically the only option here. Tebow has almost a .350 OBP??? yep, and a .770 OPS in High A ball. I've got to admit, he's doing a lot better than I would've guessed. Also, I agree, it's not worth the backlash and slap in the face to minor leaguers just to sell more tickets...

    Tebow

This is going to sound like a troll idea, but here goes. Deep breath, you guys are going to *crush* me. What would be the downside of trading for Tim Tebow and bringing him up in late August or early September? It would (obviously) be 1000% a marketing move. Upside would be generating revenue for the team through ticket sales that could be used towards big ticket signings in the future. But on a team that's as terrible as this one, what is the downside really? Main argument is that we wouldn't want to be viewed as using celebrity power for ticket sales and a loss of respectibility.
  7. Eloy is a bad bad man. Dude is already a monster and only keeps improving. I feel confident we'll look back and think we did really well getting him for Q.
  8. I am at the beach checking box scores on my phone and I have this horrible habit of looking at Moncada and then checking Devers. I hope this doesn't become a bad habit
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) royals could make some sense for melky cabrera (if the $6M to go is paid down some). there's been a bit of interest in the melk man. https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/891428220222001152 What's confusing about this is that it's already been established the Sox are willing to eat $.
  10. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) Crazy to think that will probably get a top 3 pick in the 2018 draft, and most likely a top 5 pick in the 2019 draft, to add to this loaded farm system. This is a little pedantic of me I'll admit, but you don't really "add drafts to your system". Each draft merely replaces players in the minors who have either now out of baseball/in another system, or in the big leagues. Guys who were rookies are now in year 1, guys in year 2 now 3, etc. So it's only really additive if the net benefit is greater than the same point in the previous year.
  11. You know some fans have gotten unreasonable when you read we shouldve packaged second tier relievers for Lewis Brinson I'm more than content with this return.
  12. Wow, is there a point where we say, "Enough is enough, we can let the big league team be TOO bad"?
  13. I'm much more nervous about the next stages of the rebuild than the trading of the big chips. For instance, how does Hahn handle future FA signings, contract extensions, drafting, more under the radar trades, etc. The exciting part from the perspective of the fans is over, crossing my fingers that Hahn and crew can make good decisions the next few years.
  14. Still a pretty nice season split between Kanny (0.53 ERA in 34 innings, 42 K's) and W-S (3 ERA in 9 innings.)
  15. He's a fun player and prospect. He doesn't necessarily fit the "mold", but that's what's so fun. He does his own thing and is successful. Look forward to seeing his career progress.
  16. Not sure I've seen this forum go from so high to so low (relatively speaking) on a player in such short order!
  17. Are there any free agent targets in the offseason that might work into the Sox medium/long term plans? I suppose by nature of when people hit free agency they're not usually young, so I guess unlikely. Maybe some more reclamation projects that could be flipped next deadline?
  18. WTF was Kenny doing the deal with Cashman? Hahn was generous and said he could negotiate a deal after he traded Sale, Eaton, and Q?
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) Zero chance Kahnle straight up for Rutherford would ever happen if not for the rest of the deal. As great as he has been this year, there is no track record of this level of success. I do believe he has turned a corner and could be a very good reliever, but he does not have the history that Chapman/Miller did at all. Any higher up the prospect list starts to get into what most clubs consider to be an "untouchable" prospect, or one who is only moved in exchange for a cost controlled starting pitcher for example. Rutherford was very much on the table is Quintana trade discussions. Trust in the moves Hahn and Co. are making. Agree. Just for fun, imagine how we'd feel about this trade if it were made last December. We wouldn't believe it.
  20. Complete hard stop for those who thought we could get Robles for these 3. That is complete fantasy land. That isn't reality and you certainly can't use that to say we got a lesser prospect in Rutherford.
  21. Everyone has been spoiled from previous trades. It's hilarious that people are complaining about this deal. One Fangraphs article and suddenly people think Kahnle is the second coming. People were HOPING we'd get Soto from Washington for Robertson and we do one better and package the three and land Rutherford. Think about the package agreed to for Robertson in the winter and what Detroit got for Martinez. I think this is a good return for the Sox.
  22. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:57 PM) lol at people who hate this deal. frazier = a rental and not even a good one at that, robertson = decent closer not particularly special or dominant with no value to current team, kahnle = one year wonder who was effectively a middle reliever last year. Robertson also looked terrible at times last year. I'm astounded at two things 1. We freaking got Rutherford for someone not named Sale or Quintana 2. People are complaining about this deal. Blah blah blah depth, blah blah. You'd rather have 3 guys in the 10-15 range than Rutherford? GMAFB.
  23. Getting a blue chip player like Rutherford is a massive MASSIVE win for the Sox. Much better than a bunch of 10-20 guys
  24. Joel Sherman: Outside execs said Cashman has been trying to upgrade #Yankees without moving top prospects such as Torres/Frazier/Andujar
