  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Would Beck be a guy we could get underslot at 11? I don't see why he would. He's been discussed in the 5-10 range and could go play at UNC if he wants.
  2. As a NC State alum, I am hoping for Joe Dunand in the 5-10th rounds. He's played decent SS, has pretty solid power, and think he could slide to 3B. He's actually the nephew of A-Rod which many of you will hate.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:58 PM) His floor is an elite defensive 4th outfielder with pop. Ceiling is an all-star centerfielder. That seems like an extreme stretch on his floor. That outcome may be a 50th percentile type scenario, but not sure that's the floor or "worst case scenario". If that was worst case scenario he's probably top 3.
  4. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) And if not, pick Hiura. You'll likely be able to get him underslot, and his unknown defense is better than Kendall's known bad swing or Bukauskas's known bad mechanics. 100% agree
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) Why don't you like JB? I am not a huge fan either and have seen him in person a few times. Small stature, high effort delivery, etc. Not sure how well that could project in terms of being a starter.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) I'm with shack on this one. If the dude served his time, the dude served his time. You can argue that his sentence was too short or lenient (maybe it was, maybe not -- we have no idea about the details of his case), but that's different than arguing that American people can't try to live their lives after they've completed their punishment. People don't lose their right to life/liberty/pursuit of happiness after they get out of the penal system. The potential affect it could have on PR and team chemistry MUST be taken into account when a team drafts him, and will almost certainly remove him from many team's boards. Maybe every team's board. You can hate the guy, but it's crazy to blame this guy for trying to live his life. There's no argument to not allow him to try, IMO. Wait, how do you get to "American people can't live their life after they've completed their punishment"? That's an insane interpretation if some/all teams choose not to draft him. He's a free member of society and he can choose to do what he wants (within limitations), but that doesn't mean an employer has to choose to hire him! There's consequences for actions, among them that employers don't have to give you the benefit of the doubt and can choose to hire elsewhere
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Why? If he wanted to drive a bakery truck, would you say he's unemployable? Should he never be allowed to make a living? No, but there's no rule that says his second chance has to be in baseball on a MLB team with lots of public scrutiny and a fan base full of children.
  8. Blurb from a BA chat about Matt Cooper David F (Miami): Hi, which lower level White Sox pitchers can fans be excited about, as well as position players ? Vincent Lara-Cinisomo: I like Matt Cooper; he’s a low-ceiling guy, perhaps, but has solid-average tool and pitchability and gets good angle despite his relatively short stature. 9. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) Spencer Adams with a Maddux, been very impressive this year. It's not like Adams is old, he's 21. Imagine if he was coming out of college right now facing inferior competition to what he's seen. He'd probably be fairly hightly touted. He may not have overpowering stuff but I agree he can be an effective option.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) I have a feeling Evan White is our guy. Have to be honest, a bats right fields left 1B prospect without significant power seems a little strange. Does he become a corner OF?
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) why not burger? and do you think lewis drops that far as the top prep bat? I would take Burger too. I don't think Lewis falls, but one of the mocks today alluded to that possibility.
  12. My opinion means nothing, but since this is a Sox forum, I really hope we choose between: Beck/Royce Lewis/Haseley/Hiura/Warmoth
  13. I've been on the Beck bandwagon. Really think he's going to end up being a star. Hope it's him
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Will there be comparable talents on the board though? I don't believe there will be. Jake Burger and Evan White are significant steps down from Kendall ability wise. Austin Beck and Jordon Adell have similar issues and are further away. Beck and Adell you can argue are greater talents with higher ceilings, just with lower floors/significantly higher bust risk by virtue of being HS players.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) 35 years of experience following baseball? I don't doubt you follow baseball and know a lot. 10% hit rate on highly touted HS hitters taken in the top 10ish just seems extremely low.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Haseley's going to go 6-9 according to nearly everyone, correct? Hostetler hyped Beck a lot, smokescreen to draw attention off Kendall? The problem with THAT particular theory is that nearly everyone is baseball knows we're after him, and unless the A's took him at 6th, he's quite likely to be there for the White Sox to take at 11th. No matter what the tool package, kids at the high school level with that much hype pan out about 10% of the time. Guys like Smith and to a lesser extent Haseley...did they peak this year? How well will their power translate with wooden bats at corner positions (LF/RF and 1B). With the insurance of Robert already in the fold, it does seem that you at least have the option to take the higher floor/lower ceiling choice in a Pavin Smith, but it's still highly unlikely either of those options are there. As we've already gone through with Rodon/Fulmer and all of our pitching prospects (up and downs), taking Faedo at 11 when he's only throwing 90-92 is scary as heck. Having Robert AND Kendall, the odds are super high at least one of them makes it, if not both. Where do you get this 10% figure? Excluding HS players and focusing on higher floor players to fit a certain timeframe seems like a poor recipe over the long haul.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) So much BS in the MLB draft but here's what I'm hearing. Supposedly Hahn's meeting with Kendall (reported by K Law) wasnt reported totally accurately. I don't think it means much but funny how that works out. Sox seem to think Haesely/Smth Go before them. Sox scouted Beck last week and he seems to be slipping on the draft board with an outside shot the A's/Braves grab him underslot. Kendall stuff that all he publications agree on checks out. I'd give him the highest probability to be selected by far. A's are looked at as the only competition from a few different people. Bukauskas is slipping and could be in play but seems Kendall is plan A. Man do I hope we end up w Beck. Really think he's the real deal.
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) The NCAA tourney is such a fun event. Really glad you can watch the whole thing on ESPN - its so perfectly timed with the draft It's a lot of fun. Hoping my NC State squad can make it out of their regional but good 2-0 start!
  19. Too bad re: Beck, I think he's the star of this draft. Oh well, was unlikely he'd fall to 11 anyways
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) Wonder if Bukauskas slips Not a fan and have seen him in person a few times now recently
  21. I really really like Austin Beck. Doesn't sound like he will be the guy, but love the upside. Fangraphs on Beck: "But he has among the loudest tools in the entire draft including the class' best bat speed, plus raw power projection and a plus arm. If he hits he's a star, but the risk is high." More on Beck: The extremely respected David Rawnsley at Perfect Game is not a person who falls victim to hype, yet he had this to say about Beck: “. . .the most impressive thing about Beck when I saw him was his bat and offensive profile. His hitting approach is outstanding, with a balanced set up and directional stride at the plate, ideal hand position with a calm and relaxed load and as good of lower half torque and whip as this scout has seen in a long time. The raw bat speed is extreme, absolute highest level. . .Beck hits to all fields due to his balance and ability to wait on the ball and very consistently squares the ball up. The popular comparison in the scouting community for North Carolina's fast-rising outfielder Austin Beck has been Mike Trout, which this scout has heard three different times in the last few weeks. It seemed a bit presumptuous to compare an 18-year old who has a short a resume as Beck to the game's best player, to be honest, but after seeing Beck play in person in late March this scout began to understand where those scouts were coming from."
  22. I'm hoping somehow Austin Beck falls to 11
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 30, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) You can read about Morrison's stuff, and see video, right here. Very nice, thanks. And since that article was written, he still hasn't given up a run!
  24. Keith Law is mocking Kendall to the Sox today: 11. Chicago White Sox Jeren Kendall, OF Vanderbilt White Sox GM Rick Hahn met with Kendall last week. This would be a nervy pick, like taking Alec Hansen in the second round last year (he was a likely top-of-draft guy who fell due to performance, not injury), but with the higher risk of taking Kendall at 11 when there are lots of good college bats such as Logan Warmoth still on the board.
  25. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ May 29, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) Very much a fan of picking Hiura. He brings what the org has the most trouble developing: a bat. Pretty nice college stats. Slugging % of .693 and OB % of .567. Doesn't seem like a typical white Sox 1st round pick though.
