So was it Hahn's plan all along to trade Q before opening day?

Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down

Good news is that I get to go watch these guys when Charlotte comes to Durham. -
Yikes. I am not sure what the options look like, but I would say this isn't a good deal from Anderson's perspective at first glance.

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Doubt theyd give up maitan... I think a realistic trade could be albies, acuna, guhara, riley, and a lower piece. Isn't Albies more highly regarded than Maitan?

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Seems likely the Braves have made best Q offer https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/heyman-11-...pring-training/ Acuna, Maitan, and a pitcher & I'm in

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) My fear is that the Sox will call him up too early. He's super young like others have said and should improve his K rate over time, but I'm worried that they'll throw him to the wolves too quickly and it would be harder for him to improve at the MLB level than at AA or AAA. At this point, I hope he stays down in the minors until September at the earliest. If anything, this spring probably has shown them he needs to stay down for awhile

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) I would have preferred Benentendi and Devers to Moncada and Kopech based on what the team needs. Benintendi wasn't on the table period though, and they weren't dealing Moncada AND Devers. I highly doubt anyone would've wanted Kopech and Devers headlining the package. -
David Price Reports are Surgery NOT needed..
NCsoxfan replied to NCsoxfan's topic in The Diamond Club
I would probably take Devers and their 4 next best prospects. Probably a pipe dream, but I'd do it. -
This is all speculation right now, but apparently David Price's elbow is hurting badly and he's getting multiple opinions including one from James Andrews at the NFL combine. If he has to have TJ surgery, do you think they'd be interested in trading for Q? "Price has been scratched from his scheduled Grapefruit League debut on Sunday and Red Sox manager John Farrell admitted that there is real concern among the club's medical staff. The high-priced left-hander will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews at the NFL Combine before anything is announced officially. None of this sounds good."

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
NCsoxfan replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we'd be really disappointed with the return if he was traded now. It's a worthwhile gamble to see if he can regain his mojo this year. If so, probably a decent return at the deadline -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Swisher was coming off back to back 4 fWAR seasons. I hardly call that a very small gain. The trade didn't work out but trading an unknown prospect plus filler for a 4 fWAR player when the team felt they could compete is not a bad move. Gio has only had 1 season that topped Swisher's '06, '07 seasons. Ok you can debate my phrasing but the point is that anytime you trade a bundle of young talent for an established player, you are giving up upside. No team trades X current value for prospects that equal Y probability of reaching the same X value in the future.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Right? Dude's been a good starting pitcher his whole career. Regressed a bit the past few but still. Would have loved for him to pitch here. Yup, this trade was a good example of the Sox trading a higher ceiling for a very small near term gain (which in that case didn't even really work out).

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
NCsoxfan replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Except Benitendi and Moncada both weren't on the table in July. No knowledge of discussions, but I'd almost guarantee Moncada was off the table but Benintendi might have been had. Remember that was before he was called up and went on a tear. -

QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) I believe it and I wouldn't blame them. If you have a hitter that you believe will be a star and he's MLB ready, you just don't trade them period. It's not even a question of what is worth more...they simply aren't available. That said that's why I was hoping we could bag Kyle Tucker in a deal before the season starts. Because it wouldn't surprise me if he played himself in to unavailable-ness by mid-season as well. Of course, Rogers reports that is already the case, who knows if that's true. Or he could struggle and suddenly not be viewed as a top 50 guy? You never know how things unfold. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) I just saw today's episode of MLB Network's show. I think it replays later. Nightengale was still saying that Jim Crane has 1 more move left in him and that he thinks Q or Gray is on Astros to start the season. So weird. Would love to know what the hang up is prospevt wise -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 01:59 AM) I don't know if this has been posted or not but this guy HAS actually scooped 2 stories this offseason, so he might know something... Sean Sears @sean_sears6 9h9 hours ago More #Nationals are playing it close to the chest with closer trade talks, a source of mine was told they were "exploring all options" Obviously that doesn't change anything, but he might be someone to watch on twitter if his source has info about Nats. You could probably say that about every team. Who doesn't explore everything? -

QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) If you listen to him with Ryan Dempster on Saturday (it's archived at the Score's website), he isn't so definitive about it. That's fair, but it's the first paragraph of this article saying it's going to happen before spring training. -

What's the purpose of Levine writing such a definitive statement? -
Good article by Olney about what FA has turned into. Since it's insider, here is an excerpt (all I can provide) The agent touched on a damaging part of the trend for free agents: Because so many players have to settle for one-year deals this winter, almost all of them will be looking for spots next winter, increasing the flood of players looking for jobs. The greater the supply of available players, the more that the salaries are depressed for players who aren't the elite free agents. "When 80 percent of the players get 20 percent of the money," one agent said, "they will realize that the system that they bargained for was horrific." Clubs that are going to lose have no incentive to spend. As a result of the tens of millions of dollars gleaned from television and MLB.com deals, teams no longer have to rely on attendance as their primary source of revenue. Clubs have no incentive to spend money on players to improve their ability to compete, and some teams are choosing to keep their money rather than make their clubs incrementally more competitive, or spend on a name player like Napoli.

If the Sox are committed to trading Q before spring training then it will he Hahn who blinks first. Strange that we'd be signalling to anyone that that's the plan (if true). -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Tatis Jr has not proven anything yet, you can relax Like most all prospects you mean? Whether he pans out or not is irrelevant. The point is we were trading away high upside talent even into last summer before the 180. That is frustrating.
-
It sickens me that we are having to trade Q/Sale to get top 100 prospects and we traded a top 100 prospect in Tatis Jr. for James freaking Shields
